Was just reading a few of La Muerta comics. I liked it. Read it if you like the Punisher + supernatural stuff. Cool covers, too

This is huge. But can also potentially be really good as Diamond is basically a monopoly.

Sucks for Diamond but spreading the wealth will help the industry which frankly has been stagnant for too long.

I’m surprised Marvel hasn’t broke off from Diamond yet and self distribute. Their parent company is the embodiment of “we print money”. So it makes me wonder why they even need diamond

Until recently Disney has let the Marvel Comic brand do what they want, I guess as a way of respect. But with Fiege’s recent promotion to Lord over all content, I wonder if that is still the case. I would love it if it wasn’t but Disney doesn’t really get money from the comics and it seems mostly being unused aside from snatching successful new concepts such as Miles Morales or the designs of Thanos’s children or the new Ms. Marvel. So they are probably just going standard course while maintaining a certain budget.

Watched Comicstrians video series of this:

And it is fucking amazing!!!
No doubt its a modern Spiderman classic!!

Yeah that Chip fellow is underrated among writers right now, especially with Spider-Man related stories.

So, since I just got done reading the last trade of Dawn of X(amazing reads cover to cover btw), I needed something new to get sucked into. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Immortal Hulk so I picked up the omnibus off comixology for $5 when it was on sale.

I’ve heard it was a good jumping in point for new hulk readers since it explains and evolves the Hulk mythos a bit. My main question is, I know the story line before this was Absolute Carnage. Hulk had a big part in that storyline. Is it worth reading to get a firmer grasp on Immortal Hulk?

Would recommend the whole Immortal Hulk story, it basically takes the Hulk into a bunch of new places while staying close to the core concept in a way that grows it substantial and nice ways.

Oh Fuck yea, Body horror is an unexpected but great angle for the Hulk.

As someone who doesn’t follow the big two much but has read some of the immortal hulk run: Absolutely not! The series is incredibly good and you really don’t need to know anything about Hulk or the state of the marvel universe going into it.

I’ve asked several people about the hulk stuff since I posted that and everyone has mentioned if I want to feel more invested/appreciative in what’s going on with IH than I need to read Peter David’s run.

They said it’s not necessary but i’d appreciate what is happening to Hulk/Banner that much more

Unless you can catch a sale, fuck all that. Just start with the current Immortal Hulk and if you need further background read guides. I had no idea about one long lasting character’s history turning into a particular creature so the references took me by surprise but it doesn’t really need you to invest that much unless you are going whole hog.

I have no issues with reading a 12 year run. Lol. Also, the Omni-buses of his run are only about $12 each. Which I’m also okay with.

I read a little bit about David’s run and it seems like he have Hulk some much needed depth. I don’t think I’ll read it right now. That’s over 100 issues. But I have no issues with reading it in general.

I mean if I can sit down and read all 4 compendiums of walking dead in a week, I can do the same for Hulk.

I love comics and arcs that explore major changes and paradigm shifts for characters. Things that Will dramatically change a character or their world forever. That shit is my jam.

Sounds like comic book nerds being comic book nerds. You can appreciate everything more when it comes to stuff that happens in the big two universes if you read [insert run here] before [insert book title here]. For some runs or event based books that’s absolutely the case, but for a book like immortal hulk it’s non-essential reading.

When I got back into comic books as an adult I went the indie route for two reasons. 1: I want to support the actual writers, artists and creative teams. 2: It’s easy to pick up a book and read through a story from the first book.

You outright ignored the second part Where they also said it isn’t an essential read. Just highly recommended and would help.

So as I was driving to work one day last week, I was thinking about how Jonathan Hickman masterfully fleshed out the X-Men metaphors from the 60s. Nice to have confirmation of that.

I don’t think I ignored it, that’s why I said you can gain a better appreciation of any comic from the big 2 if you do readings that preceded it. My point wasn’t criticizing them about saying that something is essential reading when it’s not because I know that’s not what they said. I’m saying a lot of comic fans for the big 2 suggest that doing reading background before the run you actually want to read is said way too often.

The part about me bringing up indies is because of the accessibility of starting a story compared to Marvel and DC titles.

This was a great watch
