I’ll be playing KoF13, just waiting for it to arrive in the mail.

Mortal Combat

I’m probably playing KOF13 this week. Considering the game just came out and I don’t have the console version yet, I can’t be “competitive”, but I can still play it with some bnbs and previous KOF knowledge.

DandyJ, would you be interested in doing a small KOF13 weekly or bi-monthly tournament series or ranbat for the beginners/intermediate players in the future and coaching along the way? I’m sure there are a lot of people who want to play, but still don’t know where to start (even after seeing your tutorial). Also, playing people who are generally strong like you and Avi isn’t exactly the best way to learn.

The hardest thing about KOF is the sheer speed. The speed at which you have to do your inputs is crazy to me. Like doing double half circle motions off a crouching light or doing a rekka series and then cancelling a DM with motions QCB->HCF afterward in a small cancel window. I mean I spent over 20 hours since Wednesday and its all basically been execution tightening and very little actually learning how to play.

Monty that’s not a bad idea, though idk about separating people by skill level. Maybe start with a tourney one week, then whoever wins, doesn’t play in the next tourney, and instead will just play whoever wins that one so that they can still participate. I’ll come up with a complete ruleset if people are interested.

Jeremy for this version those types of buffering aren’t really necessary for most characters, and when it is a lot of times there is a trick. If anyone is wondering about the most important stuff for the characters they play just ask and I can tell you bnbs and general stuffs. I’m also going to start making videos again in December sometime.

I’d like it if we didn’t migrate to flavors of the month, but that’s how it goes. It’d be nice if Columbus had one game that we all played to some degree, not that it’ll happen. I wanna get my hands on XIII however, as I never really played much of SNK fighters outside of Garou and a little bit of 98.

Damn I don’t see nothin over at m$ lookin like this. .

Some people just won’t get it. :coffee:

Some of us were looking for it last week.

Question, is the simplest I’m going to get for character tutorials for 13, going to be this? http://www.youtube.com/user/DontDropThatCombo because I briefly looked over the tutorial you made awhile ago and remember hop, short hop, super jump, jump and roll.

I’m used to seeing you as an MK9 player.

… I actually agree with this statement, but i’m probably going to be playing 13 on the side of UMVC3 anyways.

dont drop that combo isnt a tutorial its a collection of combos 95% of which are completely useless

k where would you look, i’m aware that the 13 wiki is written by the same guys who did 98.

Give me Terry and Ryo tips.

I can do the same with mine if need be for BB/KoF (have all the BB characters, getting the unlocks for KoF is easy as hell). I don’t know if we have any Shuma/Jill players here, but I don’t have them for UMvC3.

I would definitely be down for KoF ranbats (or just weekly play in general). I’m not a very huge fan of Capcom games - I still play them, but I don’t really like them enough to get seriously competitive, so I’ve mainly focused on BB in the past, with KoF being my main focus now (and my first KoF game).

The 13 wiki on SRK is being written by trustworthy people, I think most/all of the groundwork is done, not sure if there’s a lot of the easiest/optimal combos and general strats on there yet, though.

Terry - simple character in gameplay and combos. He can chain cr.B, -> cr.A, -> cr.C. If it gets blocked, cancel into qcf+A and you’re safe. If it hits, cancel into qcb+A -> combo which I’ll list below.

Stand C is your primary mid-range move, connects vs crouchers, fast, good range (also super cancelable).

Stand CD is a little slower, but longer range and is cancelable. If it connects from far it’s + on block. Crouch D is also cancelable, and kind of hits high up. Most everything that’s cancelable is also cancelable on whiff, so CD xx qcf+A or cr.D xx qcf+A is good.

For high angle anti-air, C rising tackle (charge d,u+C) is the best, beats cross ups. d/f+C is also good anti-air, if it trades you get a free juggle hit.

Stand A, stand C, and stand D will anti-air hops and are good pre-emptive moves to throw out.

Jump C and D both cross up. C is more of a high angle and D is more of a traditional fat cross-up. C is probably the best all-purpose since it hits air to air better than D. Jump B is dedicated air to air, jump CD is not bad for that either.

Crack shoot (qcb+K) is really good for pressure. If it’s blocked standing, you’re slightly disadvantage but safe vs most characters. If they block the B version crouching you’re even, and if they block the D version crouching you’re +, allowing you to keep attacking. It’s also a good way to get in and pre-emptive anti-air. EX version is a really fast overhead that knocks down.

Combos - The drive meter is the green bar, you can use it to cancel specials into specials, which takes 1/2 the bar each use. Start with cr.B,cr.A,cr.C or close C (2 hits),d/f+C into:
No meter - qcb+A
50% drive - qcb+A xx qcb+B, then stand C midscreen or charge d,u+C in the corner
50% drive + 1 super - qcb+A xx qcb+B, charge d,u+AC (ex rising tackle)
50% drive + 2 supers - qcf+A xx qcb+B, qcfx2+BD (level 2 buster wolf)

If you don’t have any green bar for drive cancels, just cancel straight into level 1 or 2 qcb, hcf+P super.

I’ll do Ryo later, I’ll just make a text doc like I did for 2k2um and keep everything in the same place.

I’ll play KoF13 but I’m pretty sure I’m not going to buy it. Who are the easy characters?

Shen is pretty derp for massive damage if you have lots of meter.

terry shen ryo maxima kula andy yuri daimon king
if you can short hop/move good then iori clark too

Kis hard? I was considering doing K / Kyo / Terry

I like the idea of keeping a few consoles for non umvc3 games but I also like the idea of developing a stronger columbus scene by focusing on one (or two?) games. I’ll probably set up my console and set out whatever games I have (umvc3, AE, Blazblue and eventually sfxt, skullgirls). If people want to swap out to an under represented game I’m cool with that.

k’ is not easy at all. kyo is moderately easy if you have good movement and can do his basic hd combos

You guys should check out how Kyle did the VMP/Stay Free tournaments when Cincinnati’s VS scene was getting started. That format really helped me get better quickly. Kyle has also been running a variety of different theme tournaments and round robins mixed in with the regular double elims.

I’m still not the best player, but I continue to feel that I need a variety of people at different play levels to play against in order to get better. The best is when there are a few people that are better than me, a few people at my level, and a few people that are worse than me. I use the matches against people that are better than me to learn what I’m doing wrong. I use the matches against people that are worse than me to try new tech. And I use the matches against people that are at my level to remind me why I’m playing the game in the first place.

Awesome, thanks for the tips KoF Encyclopedia.
