Because nobody posted this on SRK, I should let you know that game night at Donatos is no longer on Wednesday nights because another group has booked Wednesdays. This week’s fight night is tonight (Monday) and we still need to decide on a new night for fight night, likely Tuesdays.

Thanks for posting here for those of us without Facebook. I thought we had it booked out in advance though, wouldn’t the other group have to come in after our current block of nights was over?

No problem. The CFG Facebook group is the only forum we use anymore, even with all its problems. It’s the only way to reliably check if game night has been rescheduled. There’s no game night next week because parties have already reserved the basement Monday through Wednesday. Game nights at Donatos will begin again on Tuesday nights starting February 18.

Any ppl serious about ssf4 in columbus. Meaning looking to improve, discuss thr game and build a focused offline community. From what I gather its more a side game for most.

Uhhh, the best thing to do is to just show up regularly with a IV set up anyways.

As Hitstun said, the Columbus Scene posts almost exclusively on FB now.

There haven’t been a ton of SF4 setups recently, but if you bring one people will probably play. And if not now, when Ultra drops a lot of people will definitely be messing with it again

I’d like to get in on some of this, but working 2nd shift largely rules things out. Haven’t really had anyone to play fighters with regularly since moving up from Jackson in 07. Still haven’t checked out 16 bit B&A, will do so while I’m off next week. I like most fighters other than MK, DoA, and VF. I wouldn’t call myself really competitive at them, as I’ve mostly played SP and with a small group of friends from a small town (who I can trounce, but that’s not really saying much). Been enjoying fighters since 91, I’ve missed having a group to play them with.

Sorry to say, but nobody seems to use this thread anymore. Nobody even updated it to say Donatos game nights are on Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays now. The Columbus Fighting Games group on Facebook is where most of us post now, so I’d use that instead.

Not that much of anyone even uses this thread anymore (even I finally got a Facebook account and use the group) but I wanted to cross-post a post I made over there.

As Game Night gets bigger there are a couple unfortunate things I’ve noticed. I’m sure others have some observations as well.

Some people aren’t cleaning up after themselves. This has always been an issue, but with more and more people showing up the problem is compounding itself. It’s not hard. If you just thrown away your plate, cup, or box when you’re done with it there won’t be garbage laying all over the place come midnight. It tends to be left to the same handful of people to clean up everything, every week.
The same would apply to chairs and cords as well. We don’t have to put the chairs up on the tables but too many times people leave with chairs strewn all over the place or arranged in semi circles around the end of a table. If everyone puts back the chair their sitting on at the end of the night or rolls up the power cord if they’re the last one to use it then there’ll hardly be any extra work required for clean up.

People need to stop bringing in outside food. You’d think this would be without saying but over the last few months I’ve observed people bringing in donuts, pizza from home, bubble tea, falafel, soy milk, large bags of chips, an entire meal from a Chinese restaurant , 2 liter bottles of soda, and a block of cheese complete with container and cheese knife.
We aren’t being charged a venue fee to use Donatos’ basement but they are, first and foremost, a restaurant. No restaurant wants outside food brought in and buying food from them is how we support the arrangement. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t CFG lost a venue in the past due to people bringing in outside food and drink?

In any case, those are a couple things I’ve noticed and they seem to be getting worse.

Wish I could join you guys. Having a 2nd shift job which kinda screws over driving on down. I live in mansfield (about a hour north of columbus) and there isn’t ANYONE in this town that plays fighting games. Maybe if any events happen on the weekend I be able to hang out. Where do you guys play Panel de Pon? Is that at Donatos, too? Also, has anyone checked out that place called the “anime arcade” near E. 5th and Summit (on the way to the 71)? It’s pretty cool! They’ve got Taiko no Tatsujin there and you can bring whatever console games you want to play on their PS3s.
