I’m right there with you, OK6502. I would be really happy if every character had a chance to compete, and no character was overpowering. Above average and below average characters are fine, sure – like how, say, Ryu is strong but not broken, and how Guile is weak but not completely un-viable. But I don’t want any character to be like Sagat with no bad matchups, or like Rose or Vega with very few good matchups. As you say, though, that’s next to impossible in a game with such a huge cast.
Personally, I hope Cody comes in at mid- or slightly above mid-tier, like around where Chun sits today. That would make me pretty satisfied.
It’s not that people want their characters to be TOO GOOD, we just want our characters to be consistant enough to stand their own in tournaments. Nobody likes to work hard just to see another character winning with less efforts, that’s why I dropped Fei. “Why not switch characters?” What if you’re not as comfy with other characters or they’re not your style? You don’t deserve to work twice as hard as others.
Of course, I understand. I’m all for compressed tiers.
It’s not like this is MVC2 where 90% of the cast is complete garbage relative to the top tiers either. Like I said, if everyone is more or less right there in the meaty part of the curve I’m happy.
I’m 100% with Rugg as far as Cody tier placement goes.
So I’m the only one who thinks he’ll be close to Rufus and Rog in SFIV?
I think he will be that good.
Rog has a weak wake up game, that doesnt stop him. Cody will up there with them.
Anybody have an idea what bad spray will do? My guess is low damage with big recovery time (but not enough to do anything, just to stand up). But I could be wrong, it would be great if it was enough time to land a combo.
Will the ex version of ruffian kick just be the lk one I saw in a video?
Does the lp CU toss them quite aways from Cody like the hp? I like chaining them in A3, though I don’t expect it in SSFIV.
In one of the interviews, a developer says knife will limit use of some special moves. I saw on Codys move list that only under the stone throw did it say knife would disable the move (duh). I hope that is all.
I think it will be more liek the case of Viper, but to a less extreme sense. Viper is good, probably better than Balrog and Rufus, imo. But she isn’t too high on the TIER LIST because of her execution. That’s waht I think. He’ll probably be as good as them, but won’t be as high on the tier because you have to work harder to make him that good.
I can agree with this. Cody wont be on easy mode like Rog or Rufus. But at top play he could get similar results.
With that said, I dont see Cody being hard to play with at all, execution or strategy. You just have to know and practice your stuff.

Come on man, I don’t even follow this character really. Try to keep up.
@Soaphead11: …That whiffed… If you can’t see it, Justin teched but did not block. =/
@Rizhall: I would agree, but Cody doesn’t seem like a character that requires heavy execution at all. Even in Alpha 3, I thought he required as much as Ryu. And while Rog might be easier to use, I believe Cody has some better options than Rog.

I love the “try to keep up” so matter-of-factly.
I made the same mistake when I saw that video too. Im sure Cody will have plenty of setups for ultra, no worries!
I don’t think the hard part will be his execution, but making use of ALL of his tools, because he has so many, but a lot of them are used for specific purposes. You really have to know what each one does, and have to stay on your toes and make sure you can pull any and all of them out as soon as you need it.
I don’t think thats the hard part either. Thats just the commited part.
The hard part is hard competition, no matter who your character is.
@Rizhall: Well, knowing your character, his matchups and how to use his options is pretty much part of every character. I do know what you mean though, I had a problem adjusting to all of Gouken’s options, but that’s because I didn’t bother putting a lot of time into him. I plan to spend a great amount of time on Cody if I end up liking him.
@Arcane Arcane: Well, that’s a player adjusting to a player kind of situation, not a player adjusting to a character. =p
I’m gonna have to get used to playing as Cody again

Hey, wise guy, he didn’t combo into it, she landed and quick recovered and got hit during the ultra.
Learn your place. I’ve seen all of these videos.
Without knowing all the nitty gritty about his normals/specials cancel/links it is all guess work guys. I don’t think any confident assumptions can be made about how ‘good’ he will be.
Almost everything from Alpha 3 can be done, we’ve seen enough footage to assume a lot of things and there are a lot of people that messed with him.
