i hope cody aint top tier,im shooting for mid high with a steep learning curb,extensive 1 frame links with low damage output.lmao jk but im hoping he aint the new ryu in a sense(not that nubs arent still goin to be using ryu more than cody) just dont want to see the tourney scene oversaturated with one character(like japan and sagat)

what makes you say that,he gas good anti airs and several ways to get past fireballs,and can combo into ultra and a projectile,no to mention a knife that chips and doubles as a projectile to boot
Why does every thread have at least one person who doesn’t want their characters to be “top tier”? What would a top tier character mean for you as a person? Are you afraid of winning too many tournaments? Afraid of the possible fame and fortune? Does a “top tier” status change anybodies playstyle or enjoyment of the game?
I’ll tell you right now, I damn hope Bison becomes Top Tier in SSF4. I would love it, God-Tier even. Broken? No, I would hate for the game to have someone that would make the game unfun, or non-tournament worthy by breaking balance, but being at the top? No issue with it at all.
Anytime you have any number, of anything and add ranks to them, someone is going to be at the top and someone is going to lose. The top five best things in the world, will still have a #5 and a #1. It’s not a big deal.
I used to think like that, and it was because I didn’t want everyone using the character I liked.
But now I don’t care who people use. I hope my mains are Sagat tier.

I can see how people can think having the disadvantage is fun and all, but I certainly won’t want that.
I think Cody has everything it takes to be top tier, it’s just a matter of how many people will be winning with him.
I really think most of the cast will be tournament viable. Like Rey Aries just said, it depends on the player. Outside of a few bad match ups a character might have, things mostly depend on one’s player or skill. If you want to win with a low tier character, your skill and gameplay has to be just that much better than your opponent who might be equally skilled and using a higher tiered character.
All in all, I could care less about tiers… tiers just reflect a characters matchups anyway. Thats the core of tiers and thats what everyone should care about. How does my character matchup against another character. What game knowledge should I know overall and specifically about this matchup.
because the higher the tier them more people complain about that character,also when you have a mid or low tier character when you win IMO i feel more accomplished because i won based upon the fact that im a better player,instead of a trade to ultra lol.and regardless im entitled to my own opinion,am i not?

well after seeing his move set i almost feel like he would be a counter to ryu, because alot of ryu’s gameplan is spacing with fireballs, and with so many ways around fireball it seems like he would give shotos a tough time…im just saying
I want him to be broke as fuck, but I know hes just gonna be a mid tier char. All good either way.

Okay, well he’s not the only character with options around fireballs.
He lacks a proper reversal and he can have trouble getting out of corners. These are flaws to consider.

The obvious reversal Cody has when he’s knocked down is his bad spray. It could be predicted in A3 and countered so you had to change it up. It wasn’t very fast either.
EX Criminal upper is fast, but we’ll see.

I can’t speak for everyone else but for me it’s because I don’t want there to be an S tier at all… I think it’s hypocritical to stand there in awe at some of the poor design decisions Capcom has made regarding certain characters and then secretly wish your character had those very same benefits.
IDK, you can call me a fighting game communist if you want. I know it’s optimistic but I hope that, despite the realtively good job they did at balancing the game in IV that they can do an even better job in super. Of course, considering how many characters there are now that’s pretty unlikely.
