V-Cody in SFA3 beta was insane. If it was mid or high, he dodged it. The only moves that connected with him were low moves. I swear he could dodge whole attack strings. He also had a normal-sized guard bar, just to add insult to injury. He was much toned down in the final version.
There quite a few things in the beta that should have carried over to the final version, like Honda’s insane damage (X-Gief level) and X-Gen being able to do chain combos.

Er, didn’t Cody already have a fake rock throw? Oh wait, not: He could delay the throw, but not cancel it/fake it. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

Er, why are you asking me? Besides, it’s more likely Cody just never changed from his prison outfit because he’s still in prison. And I agree that it shows a lack of imagination on Ono’s part.

Well since the last street fighter game i had played (before sf4) was sfa3 and my secondary character was Cody, i’ll definitely try using him in ssf4.
However his images that we’ve seen so far are kind of disturbing.
I don’t mind the prison outfit (on the contrary, I prefer it from his final fight outfit), however it’s not what i was expecting either. He looks uglier and slimmer.
I guess i’ll wait to see better pics before i finalize my opinion about him…
Omg, I drooled when I saw the knife. Cody is by far my favorite Alpha char. Can’t wait to see some cyclone action and the kick mix ups. Ugh… so excited now.
I hope his girl jessica is in as much as candy( rufus girlfriend). His anime intro should be cool.

Holy crap, you’re right. Where were you 10 years ago, when I was playing this in my school’s student center, getting guard crushed by Sakura?
And, you can cancel into it, too! But, it doesn’t recover fast enough for combos as far as I can tell.
In SSF4, they should totally cut down the recovery time to allow for combos or at least some nice pressure games.
It would also be nice if you could cancel it on reaction, like with the method I described earlier…instead of having to commit early.

Ah yeah. I was thinking that but I couldn’t remember for sure. However I checked AASFZ3 and couldn’t find any data for it at the time (I just found it; it’s in another spot than the usual taunt data for characters).

Knife was borderline useless in A3. Unless they tweak it so that it doesn’t drop on being hit, that ultra of his will be ass most likely. The other problem with the knife was that he lost some of his better anti-air normals and air normals when he was using it.

And instead of him having his V-Dodge, he could just focus, rock, or hurricane punch fireballs. He’d be broken if he could dodge any normals.

this is so incredibly awesome i remember the first time i ever went to an arcade i got my ass kicked in so hard playing as cody, cant wait to have that happen in ssf4.
hell yeah nostalgia is the shit.
Since they’ve made the decision to keep out all things of a custom/variable combo nature, to help make his gameplay a little more interesting for SSF4 than A(Z)/X-ism counterpart capcom should combine the following things:
keep his knife system functioning EXACTLY just like in A/Z3 but also the addition of being able to pick it up during normal attacks you would combo from
make his dodge moves from V-ism as command specials… (idk something like b+3Ks and d+3Ks)
make his fake knife/rock throw as a command special… (idk change his Criminal Upper motion to something like f,d,df+P and make this qcb+P)
also give him a command over head (idk something like f+MP)
keep his dirt throw reversal move
all this would greatly help to expand his mix up game potential and make him more competetive
They should’ve made him at least look a bit less generic …i still hope they bring Rolento, he adds more flavor to SF than Cody ever did.
well what would be the purpose of dodging any normal that could otherwise be blocked, if he doesn’t get frame advantage for dodging? If it were a command, that’s the only reasonable possibility, but I imagine there’d be some overlap for the command if it were to work anything like Gouken’s parry.
I think somebody said earlier, there’s no purpose for his dodging since SF4 has no guard break system.
I would imagine alot of the people new to street fighter games won’t already know who cody is, so putting him in his prison outfit makes sense. It’s a very distinctive outfit that sets him apart. Otherwise all the new players would be like “Who is this? Just some guy in a white t-shirt and jeans?”.
Im hoping they dont just lift him from a3 and say fuck it. Dodge should be able to cancel into focus lulz

Cody had an overhead in SF Zero 3 Upper (F+HP) which he’ll probably retain.
Metroxylon:
Blanka and Dhalsim have dodge moves in SFIV. They can give Cody a command dodge like their’s (i.e. PPP).
Mashf3st:
Sadly, I think Cody’s going to be garbage. He wasn’t anything special in SFA3 outside of V-ISM, and I don’t see him being anything special in SSFIV.
