just training. you’ll get it into your muslce memory eventually. (btw, it’s easier to do a c.lp, c.lp, c.mp then plain c.lp, c.mp. helps with the rythm)
I know but I kept dropping it which is pissing me off cause I’ve been practicing it for 2 weeks straight now. I started plinking the link now though and I’ve been nailing it online.
Also how do you deal with block strings as Cody. I have a tendency to get locked down and then I lose the match soon afterwards.
If you’re already caught in a blockstring, then just block and crouch tech. If they’re constantly poking and then jumping, shoot them out of the air with jump back lp or something. If they’re poking at midscreen and trying to inch in, cr.lk x LP CU is your friend.
You should be avoiding being put on defense in the first place though. Make use of those anti airs and pokes.
Like let’s say I’m fighting akuma, right off the bat it’ll be a crossup tatsu and then i’ve already lost. How do I avoid that kind of situation.
vs goulki there is only one way to stay out of trouble: never get knocked down. this is where gouki has 35902395023589235789238592035 setups for ambiguous and safe mix up. and since it’ll happen eventually, you should just try to recognize the used setup and block accordingly. gouki is the hardest mu to begin with tho : X
I’m finally starting to read the opponent accurately and often. I find myself losing the first round then coming back the next 2 decisively because I know everything they’re gonna do. I found cr.mk indispensable for getting out of pressure. I throw it out during a gap and I can immediately get rolling and back on offense again.
To quote Mr. Valle: “First round is data”.
Sasaki just beasting on Air right now. I struggle on this match up and he makes it look so easy.

I have a strange problem right now where I can beat people that aren’t mashing and have a plan and mindgames and such. But when I fight someone who mashes jab like a madman and jumps around all crazy i’m at a loss because it makes no sense what they’re doing. I makes me feel so inept lol
s.hk, hk ruffian, b.mp when they are jumping like madmen.
I get randomed out like that all the time. When you’re unsure what the other guy is doing, stick to pokes and anti airs and generally avoid doing too many frametraps. Less chance of getting randomed when you’re at a safe distance.
Basically that. Let the idiot kill himself with his own mistakes. Don’t try do go balls out unless you have anti shoryu setups.
Ok I’ve been able to determine when I need to shut my brain off and let the shoto kill himself and its worked a lot better for me.
Zuukuu thanks for the safe jump info off of back throw! The amount of pressure that this provides is great.
I can’t get that safe jump off of front throw to work however. at least not consistently.
**That said, **
1) are there any other safe jump options off of knockdowns like lk ruffian or cr hk?
2) what are your common options against your opponent’s wake up? If i can’t get a safe jump, I’ve resorted to either standing m (which doesn’t work as well as i would like it to), fake rocks into dash throw/cr HP or cr lk xx CU – none of these options seem too effective to me… (i guess cuz i’m used to dudley doing insane damage off of overhead or cr lk)
- after a lk ruffian, wait a LITTLE BIT (less then a whiff s.lp) and neutral jump. if done right, safe vs 4f reversals and above. obviously.
- mix it up! overhead, meaty cl.hp, c.lk xx, c.lk tick throw, crossup, fake crossup, do a OS, neutral jump as throw bait, throw, meaty lp rocks, fake rock dash in, etc etc etc it depends on the character you face and the player behaviour. if they tend to wakeup srk often, bait it, if they back dash OS them. etc
for the safe jump option off of the lk ruffian is that just an empty neutral jump or can i put in a nj FP?
nj.fp otherwise it would be a empty jump.
Any talented Cody’s on pad? I use xbox controller and I main Dudley. For so many times I’ve thought of having Cody as my secondary. I know how to use him, but one of the things I’m having difficulty is how to use EX Zonk on pad. What buttons are the easiest to hold for when I’m doing a combo. I used to use LP, MP and hold those 2 to get EX. I don’t use the 3 Punches because then I can’t use LP and MP. Anyone?
EDIT: Also which normal Zonk button is best to hold to eat fireballs or hit through in coming blockstrings?
I play pad on ps3 so i’m not sure how useful I can be, but I tend to use mp+hp to do ex zonk.
Pretty much all the bingos are good for getting around fireballs. To beat incoming block strings I would only recommend using Ex zonk sparingly, using the other versions would be pointless since they are too slow.
