Hey guys, I’m back from NEC and motivated to get better as well as help the scene improve.
This thursday, i’d like to have a dedicated setup where two people play FT5s and have them recorded. We can do this for tekken too since there’s people with direct cap equipment (kris, diego?) and we have 2-3 cameras between us (me, osirun, pope temmy if he’s interested). When we sit down to play 2 out of 3 matches, we don’t really learn as much. It also takes a while to wait when 3 people line up to play. I know that I get impatient and I lose my focus when I have to sit and wait in line a lot.
I created a new youtube page here specifically for uploading match videos. I’d like to also review and discuss things that people are doing incorrectly/things that people can be doing better to help everyone improve. I also want to put something together for PowerUp 2011, maybe an advertisement or two for it? Nathan, if you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know.
I’m really only going to put effort into reviewing matches for people that really care about getting better in ssf4, so If you don’t care about competing, don’t bother getting matches recorded.
Also NEC was a blast. Thanks for Kyle Wattula for driving and providing us the van, Matt for dodging the deer and driving a leg of the trip, Sluch for driving, Alex for getting 4loko’ed and meeting Hotel Kelly, Ray for bringing a TV that almost couldn’t fit in the car (and talking about vsav), and Derrick for being chill as fuck. All of you are aces and I would go to any tournament with all of you again.
And as an added note, the criticisms and constructive comments will be posted under the comments of each video. I’m going to Roger Ebert some of you.

@Zach: I love the format. How will it be decided who plays who? Will winner stay or will some sort of cycle be in place to maximize matchup exposure? Having a dedicated AL YouTube page is a good idea. Is there any way to make it members only so we don’t get wack random comments? Not a huge deal but something to check. I guess I’ll also need the user/pass in a pm if I’m to be uploading footage.
For PowerUp, I think that would be excellent. I’ve already talked to Kam about doing a promo and the PU2011 mini-documentary. I think more recording and review is essential.
More setups = less wait. Bring those setups guys! If I could afford 10 PS3s, I’d have them but for now it’s on you guys. We usually have a few brought but there almost always a couple tvs that don’t get used due to no setups available

We can make certain videos private only to friends of the youtube page, so we can do it like that if everyone makes a youtube account (not hard to do, most people have them, etc). I’m going to make another e-mail address and change it so that we can tie it to another google account, and we can share the password with whoever is uploading videos.
As far as the format goes I really just want to get people to play and record stuff. It doesn’t matter who, but we should try to have everyone play everyone. This way we get the “gauntlet” exposure and we just play a lot at the same time.
The NEC documentary/interviews didn’t go as well as I’d hoped, I didn’t have enough time to prepare for a spur of the moment idea, and while the interviews I got were great (sluch and alex, especially alex), I didn’t get enough random footage of going. That said, I want to do something for Final Round because there are more people from our area going and I think we can make a strong showing.

Private videos would be great and cut down on non-constructive comments. I think a good courtesy rule would be to get people to play a FT5 and then give the setup up to a different pair of players who may be waiting. So no winner stays. We’d need setups dedicated for this so people who don’t want to participate can still play in a “winner stays” way.
My PS3 is of course dedicated as a recording station. 3 SSFIV recording stations would probably be adequate, then 2 T6 and 1 BBCS depending on interest.
TvC Fight Night will still occur as I planned it, all prizes included and with recording. Would it be okay if I uploaded the TvC vids onto this AL YouTube channel? Viewing would be more convenient if all the videos are on the one channel. The TvC vids could be subject to the same constructive criticism.
I also think it would be prudent if all uploaders agree to a video naming format to make browsing and organization of videos simple and clean.
My suggestion is:
SSFIV FT5 - (1ST PLAYER NAME) vs (2ND PLAYER NAME) - (DATE IN XX/XX/XXXX)
Lastly, this thread should he updated by the vid uploaders every time with a link list of what they uploaded to make it even easier for players to view their own and other’s matches.

Nathan: I also enjoy doing editing and hype videos (case in point: Rants & Raves: KOR: A retrospective (part one)) so if you want help with that I’ll be down as well.
I’ll bring my camera and record as well. I don’t think I will have my direct cap device for a while, but I still have my mini HDV camera.
For people interested in birthday shenanigans, what works better, this Friday or Saturday? I’m open either day. Also if we choose to return to my place we can only drink on the first floor and I’d need people to bring setups.

I like the critique idea. Sounds good to me , also I agree for private comments. So what are you guys going to do about mirror matches? Since in some cases you can’t really learn anything from mirror matches( in regards to SF).
Also, Nathan did you still need me to create a new PU template? I’m also in the process of getting the PU2011 MvC2 mix together. I’m taking music and color requests, I’m not guaranteeing that anything will make it on but I’m definitely taking some ideas and stuff.
