but neither of those ex sbks was done against a “safe jump” :coffee:

Outside of blocked d/f+roundhouse vs Sagat, the only uppercut that hits Chun is Sagat’s kara short -> fierce uppercut. Maybe point blank Ken EX shoryu if done late but that’s really rare. So, back dash actually counters uppercuts, and they’re unable to FADC.

edit: The topic and forum is Chun, so we’re talking about Chun back dashes.

lol. I’ll just pretend you’re bored, have nothing to say, or are trying to be smart or something. This type of thinking is the reason why I don’t take the time to post in-depth strategies on the boards anymore.

Ryu’s safe-jump fierce into option select srk works the same way as Chun’s double fierce OS sweep – punishes backdash if you decide not to block instead.

I’m glad you said the thing about backdashes beating almost all uppercuts, because Ryu has gotten some HP srks on me after blocking a D/F roundhouse, since I space it so I land very close. But any farther away than my usual spacing, backdash actually does win.

well, i AM bored so… you got me there.

but, that divekick was done so early it didnt have a chance of hitting the statue of liberty much less that chun player…

i could have been in that same exact situation and done an ex sbk as well, but it wouldnt have been because i was trying to hit the divekick… more like i wrongly predicted that he was going to go for the throw. all that rufus did was get close and block… that chun lost to a mixup plain and simple…

if everytime i lose to a mixup my opponent exclaims “BAITED SON!”

… just seems to be juvenile thinking to me.
its like getting all happy with yourself when you hit someone on wakeup with a hasan shu…
yeah you outguessed them and they went for a crouch tech or whatever… but do you actually think that you baited the opponent?

you won a guess…

a classic bait would be something like wiffing a dp and then landing and supering the opponents mistimed normal on anticipation…

in that case your doing something to get a VERY specific response and then anticipating that response and doing something that would be very dangerous/stupid to do in any other given context…

all rufus did there was block, wait, and react.

but yeah, in the end its apples and oranges i guess.

Forcing someone into acting the way you want them to = Bait

Played a set with Issei (the same 3s Yun player from Japan) in a set a few hours ago. Very solid Akuma, I’m very grateful I got the privilege of practicing against someone his caliber. Now for the vids!

<- Unfinished, out of memory . But in the end, he did a string into demon flip and I walked under and hit him with close fierce.

The matches were more and more epic towards the end, after we’ve adapted more to each other. Youtube shows the most recent ones uploaded anyway, which are the last ones first.

I watched match #9 so far. Sweet, sweet stuff. Loved the p-dog in the first round.

^Thanks

I forgot to mention, there was 1 more match that I deleted because the ending was pretty laggy. But before it got to that point, something interesting happened.

He swept me, I did reversal ultra. He did a demon after my ultra activated, but I still won because he did it too early. I think if he did it later, with the right (but hard as hell!) timing, he would have gotten the snatch. Very interesting to note, and it may be a Chun’s doom at the highest level in something like a team tournament match in the 3rd round. (!!)

That has happened to me tons . It’s so tempting to ultra that sweep.

P-DOG?! Glad East Texas terminology caught ya first of all, but MagMan with the P-DOG against ISSEI?!:wow: I’m on the fourth vid now, can’t wait to finish. Thanks for sharin’ MagMan, great insight into how to approach the Akuma match-up regardless if Nemo thinks it’s a big disadvantage one.

Indeed it is, sir! Nice Chun vs Sagat avatar

It just happens, I probably got the luckiest since Akuma shouldn’t be mixed up often by Chun. I still think it’s a hard match…probably because I’ve been knocked down and option selected by him throughout the set so much. He picks his oki decisions extremely well and I have to do some planning if I’m lucky enough to get out.

I keep remembering things whenever I watch it again. I just remembered something really annoying that he did. Whenever I had super/ultra and I would look for a punish, he would go for pressure such as jump EX fireball into overhead. But the best (and most annoying) one of all that he does a lot is throwing me while I’m waiting for something to punish. I guess it’s like trying to ultra punish tiger shot/fireballs from good players. As Nemo jokes about them only getting hit if they’re not looking on the screen, I can see it being applied to not-so-obvious punishes. He won a round that I had a lead in by demon flip throwing me while I was waiting, didn’t expect or react fast enough to it.

So all that for one, but very smart technique. Looking for something to punish against a good player that won’t give you something to punish = limiting yourself and possibly losing the match. Next time, I will only look for punishes that arise, instead of counting on him to slip up and give me something. It’s something that I haven’t had to deal with before, and something I found very interesting.

That’s very true. My friend and mentor of SF3:3S/Tekken5/HDR/SC2/SF4 always told me to punish their mistakes and make them make mistakes foremost. I did see alot of the things he did while I watched I thought “OOO ex sbk now!” but afterwards I’d think to myself “I probably would of fell for that too…:xeye:”. His oki game was so sick. Demon flip whip, you’d dash back just to get sweeped. He was definitely on point with Gouki/Akuma.

I wish I could play some of the PS3 homies, maybe I can with this recent PS3 price drop sometime in the future. Or with the 360 price drop you guys get a cheap-o 360. =D

Akuma’s okizeme is scary, especially when you’re using Chun =(

After seeing Issei’s Akuma/Gouki I’m looking forward to that kind of a challenge. It must of been intense for MagMan and so much fun!:lovin:

The avatar doesn’t do the original image justice. It’s soooo good. Defines what I think about Chun match-ups so well. They might be big and tough but our little chunners can rough em up.

I believe that to be my biggest problem in the Boxer match-up. I get way defensive looking for that super punish that, he can just mix me up all day cause I’m all focused on that. Shit’s eye opening.

That image is great indeed. For those who are lazy and want to see the full version, here’s one I found. Sorry if the original’s size is much greater.

That is awesome…its definitely Udon Crew art, probably from the Chun Li comic they are drawing.

Wong vs. Santhrax

Quality is so so but the match is interesting

Good stuff on your matches, we still need to play . I didn’t know Issei had a PSN account :shake:, I need to ask him the next time I see him. Back to slavery, I mean work I go. It’s Friday!!! :china:

Wong is using Chun now?

I don’t know whether or not to be happy that this will attract more talent to my favorite character, or sad that if that happens it will turn the Chun Li forums into a flaming mess like what happened to the Boxer forum…

…:looney:
