Thanks for the quick reply. St.mk is normally my go-to anti-air but clearly it wasn’t working so I resorted to using the st.hp which definitely worked in my favour in the latter rounds.
I’ll definitely incorporate these things in future matches.

Thanks again man, I have a damn hard time confirming HSU into cr.lk, hence the burn.
Watching the match I saw that I was becoming a bit predictable. It was only that day that I started throwing in meaty cr.lp on wake-up into either throw/HSU/or cl.st hk for a CH, but muscle memory kicked in a few times and just did HSU.
Thanks for the feedback again though.
Just read your comments, thanks for them. I have a bad habit of throwing bad fireballs. I normally don’t jump as much but like you said, if they’re not doing anything about it, why stop? I do it bc sometimes I can’t think of anything else to do when I do a block string, luckily he wasn’t doing anything about it.
Tighter Hazanshu strings will help with that too. If you are too “loose” with hazanshu or do it too late or just throw it out, it can lead to an anti air or focus attack then punish from the other guy.
A few new vids from me:
Saw the Yang one above and wanted to post mine - screw the twins.

A few with Oni:
One question about Oni, how to deal with that stupid non-crossup-crossup slide B.S.
I couldn’t tell when he was going to cross me, hell I even backed off and let him do it so I can try and see the difference and I’ll be damned if I couldn’t tell difference.

Self Analysis from past two days of playing — way to many Cr. Hks and I swear my FA dash forward button is broken.
Oni is garbage, still armies of shotos (mostly Ryu and E.Ryu) and nothing makes me saltier than having pro player’s Viper beaten and for whatever reason I try to head stomp on her wake up to show off instead of playing to win…
iirc If it’s :hp: or EX slash, it will cross up. I believe you have to prepare and block the other way as he goes through. This is my old friend’s Gen, but I remember him showing me how to react to EX slashes.

EXs are no biggy you can actually throw him out of them just like Abel
the problem I was facing is during his blockstring going 50/50 between crossing up and not crossing up
I don’t understand why developers feel they have to do such things.
Here lets make it so you have to guess what happens - Looking at you Kazuya of SFxTk crapness…
kazuya is godlike
but nerf hammer is waiting
Watch this set!!! Really great play by Tommy, he plays so well, everyone can watch this and learn a LOT about spacing, footsies, punishing and set ups for punishing and creating openings…
I loved watching every round of these games!!!

awesome match, too bad he cracked at the end. I think this is definitely a partial blue print to play 2012 chun
There was a lot I liked and disliked watching those sets.
Liked - generally solid play, good usage of AA. Good reactions.
Disliked - Fishing for U1 was really, really obvious. And for some reason I still don’t understand the Sagat player kept throwing stupid Tiger Shots. A few I think he wasn’t paying attention to the meter or Chun’s charge level. There are some players who will challenge you with a tight fireball but if you show you can reaction U1 through it they won’t do it again. This Sagat kept doing it and the Chun player capitalized well. However it’s hard to say how the rounds would have gone had the Sagat not thrown those fireballs.
If Chun walks or dashes forward she can sit down again and neuter Sagat. He can try to reaction Tiger Shot - block one sure, but then he’s stuck. He’ll have to move backwards if he wants to throw fire. This is a good way to back him into the corner, which takes away a lot of his options while increasing Chun’s. The Chun player gave up ground sometimes when I think he could have pressed the screen forward a bit.
He also let Sagat jump on him quite a bit. They were at the weird angles where Sagat just reaches her and her AAs aren’t as good. Chun does have options here though - sometimes sweep works as AA depending on the distance/angle. Sometimes c.mp is good. If you know Sagat is going to jump, walk forward so you can use cs.mp.
Also a couple of times the Chun player would get in to mid-range and do FA. Most likely fishing for a Tiger Shot he could dash through for a potential hit/crumple, or just get in and do damage. I noticed this so I wondered why the Sagat player didn’t. EX Tiger Shot or Tiger Knee would have put a quick stop to that. The Sagat also didn’t use FA as much as he should have, and seemed to only really want to throw Tiger Shots, jump in, and uppercut. Also a bit of a nitpick, but he didn’t seem to know how to punish a non-kill instant overhead j.rh.
Also it was funny hearing the announcers go wild over stuff that’s more or less Chun 101.
to me was quite annoying tbh

I’ve seen better vids, but a few interesting things here I guess.
0:18 I guess that’s why you don’t start rounds with a Kikoken. You get nailed, fall into a small life deficit. The opponent’s small life lead can become a big life lead from there, and it’s all uphill
1:36 wtf? I had no idea you could air throw a Bison stomp. I have to try that.
Yeah, I don’t see too many stomp happy Bison’s anymore, but air grab is a great way to deter that. Then they usually just resort to devil’s reverse to either bait it or build meter, but you can punish those with dash ultra 1 or cr. mk under it if they aim at you, so playing that game isn’t very wise against Chun.
Good Bison’s usually only do meaty stomps for a kill and keep their devil’s reverse use limited against Chun.
-Tommy’s gotta get his EX legs confirms down in clutch situations so he could close out more matches and get the momentum in the set.
-Xian should really use U2 vs Chun imo. Even though he won, I think U2 tips it in his favor so he could’ve taken it quicker. Taking away her ability to control space with fireball is taking away the biggest edge she would have in that match. Then he can get in more effectively and play the knockdown to safejump/crossup/mixup game more.
Sure U1 is guaranteed damage if you land super, but U2 is still comboable after super (which I think is really stupid btw) and sets up a better mixup afterward and it is EXTREMELY hard to escape the following mixup if the ultra didn’t kill you. So you usually end up taking more damage than U1 when you get opened up or you’re under a large amount of pressure with all that gray health (and it doesn’t regenerate if you’re stuck in blockstun). EX SBK works once in a blue moon but trust me… it’s an awful situation to be in. Guess right or die.
I remember about a year ago what my friend said about Gen’s U2 combo after beating me in a tournament match with it: “It’s a normal… into a special… into a SUPER… into an ULTRA… into a MIXUP. That’s broken ain’t it?”
Then he repeated it… I was so salty as I shook his hand.
It’s been a year and we’ve gotten very familiar with the matchup, but yeah… that’s shit’s still a pain in the ass.
Not a lot of Gen users here, and even fewer that use U2. I understand that though. That was on the to-improve list of my old friend’s Gen: how to use U2, and how to set up the Oga stomps/flying kicks better.

Random FT5 I had with a Sagat player online. I made a lot of mistakes - I’m rustier than I thought. Good to see to study up on fixing those areas.
