Chun-Li Trial Mode Assistance

Ah, that did the trick!

Thanks a lot, I finally finished all Chun-Li trials :woot:

I’m stuck on Chun Li trial 4-3, but this thread seems pretty useful for all of her trials:

http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_fighter/go/thread/view/7411/13761865/Trial_Mode_Walkthrough_Thread

The 3rd trial of normal where she has to do the HK, lightning leg special gets me because I could never do the lightning special fast enough right away for years not just in SF4 but going back to SF2 on SNES. I am not that far away from getting it but it never links when I do it. I am thinking about getting a turbo controller just for this one challenge alone.

This site is quite helpful it helped me to finally be the 1st combo in 3rd challenge, by the way I find the 4-3 trail to be quite easy and I almost cleared all of her normal challenges now. I find it trickier to land the harder challenger but they are quite doable for me.

I’m stuck on 4-3 too. That page says:

“Hold d+MP+MK at point-blank, but don’t dash cancel this time. Continuing to hold down, press HP as Dan’s halfway to the ground and immediately cancel with the u+MK to finish. This one’s all timing.”

When I try to do it, it seems like I can’t hit Dan with the D.HP until after his knees hit the ground, and his head sort of jerks back up. If I try to D.HP any earlier than that the punch doesn’t come out. Is that description right? What do you look for, to know when to hit the D.FP?

One thing that really helps me with the challenges is doing harder parts of the challenges separately until I get those down then I do the easier parts after that. Challenge 4-3 is isn’t too hard just focus on doing the commands as soon as you can. It got me a few times but overall it wasn’t too bad. I am stuck final combo in the 4th challenge and oddly enough I can do the combo all day in training I just can’t link the j. HK infront of it, if I could do that I would cleared Chun’s normal training a few days ago, I can even link the ultra at the end even though the timing of it is quite tricky.

Basically, practice doing the focus attack then hitting Dan with the c.HP afterwards. If the c.HP hits twice then you’re doing it right. If it hits once and Dan pops up a bit, then you did it too late.

I’ll try that, Scamp. Sounds good.

Just completed it. Trial 3 Hard is a beast, unpratical but it works.

Okay, so finally got past 4-3. The rest of the Normals and Hard 1-4 weren’t too bad, but now I’m also stuck on Hard 5.

I’m a little confused still about what it means to dash cancel a Level 2 FA. I thought FADC means that the FA isn’t supposed to hit? Or are you saying that you can still dash out of a Level 2 FA by doing (hold down MP+MK until they flash white), F, F, (let go of MP+MK), and they’ll hit with the Level 2 FA and then dash forward?

Or, do you have to wait until after you release MP+MK, before you input the F, F to dash forward?

For the last trial you need to charge the focus attack to level 2 than dash cancel it, the timing is a bitch - you basically have to release the focus attack as soon as you get it to level 2, one way I did this was to look on the ground you will notice a ring of dust around her once it has hit level 2. Once the focus attack hits buffer in the dash and get ready to do the Command Combo kicks. For the last part in order to land the ultra I had to delay it a bit (around .5 to 1 second) for it to land, I’ve never had the entire ultra combo complete so its actually a really shit combo I think but regardless you still pass the trial and get some new icons.

I am still pissed I did not get a Thunder Thighs title after all that work.

What does “Once the focus attack hits buffer in the dash” mean? What’s the timing between letting go of the MP+MK, and inputting the dash motion? Before, after, or in between?

As far as the timing goes that is something I do not remember off hand, as said before just get the timing down so as soon as the focus attack reaches level 2 release it. Buffer the dash right after it hits than go right into the command kicks.

What I did was first practice ex fireball to level 2 focus, but make sure it combos!

Focus Attack
Cr. HP
Medium Bird Kick.

This thing has been giving me a fit for a week.

Is there something specific that has to be done. If the SBK comes out, its blocked, but most of the time it doesn’t even go off. I only have that issue when trying to tie it to HP.

^… the :u::mk: has to be hit directly after the :hp:, almost like you’re rolling the buttons. I’m not sure if you have to dash after the focus, but i don’t think so… that said, i completed it with dashing.

Probably redudant to say but its just timing after that. You get enough time to do the full charge of the sbk after a dash (or not if you didnt dash), but the timing needs a bit of learning… I think the sbk will whiff if you let dan fall too much (I seem to remember this happening once to me)

I practised linking :db::hp:->m.sbk without the focus at first to get used to the timing, and then added the focus once i was comfortable… gl.

The problem I’m having is the SBK doesn’t even go off 90% of the time. It cancels the HP (only 1 hits) and then she just stands up.

Hmm, i just tried it again, and the few times it wasn’t landing it was a case of the :hp: reseting dan from crumple motion so the sbk would mostly miss, and consequently break the combo… i tightened up my charge time and the combo linked entirely, with or without dashing.

I’m at a loss how you’re managing to cancel your :hp: into nothing at all… perhaps someone else will have a better idea.

I might want to state that it might be my controller. Its old, on the verge of wearing out. It drops X sometimes that I know of, and the R Buttons like to stick. My stick in on the way, but that doesn’t mean much till it gets here.

I had the same problem for a really long time. You definitely do have to cancel the C.HP into the SBK, and I think the secret is just timing the C.HP to hit as soon as you’re able to. If you hit the C.HP a split second too late, then the SBK would either get blocked or not come out. Also, I was able to do it with a level 3 FA, but not a level 2, if that actually makes a difference.

You can do it after a level 2 FA. You have to charge down as soon as you can after inputting forward dash.
