Ah, bummer; thanks a bunch though, Ark!

It helps to know what does and doesn’t work, and why - though the SRK-FADC-Ultra combo I ate after getting crumpled afterwards already made me think thrice before trying that shit again. At least I still have Chun’s bitch-slap to get them to knock it off.

Has anybody else noticed the online Zangiefs getting really turtly against their Chuns or is it just me? Last night I had 2 who did nothing but lariat backwards over and over for a good 20 seconds as I threw kikokens. Do they fear Chun now?

I’ve faced a few of those, Nightwing - my guess was they were just building meter in the safest way they could come with. That, and trying to get you to take the fight to them in frustration, which, needless to say, is generally a bad idea. Whenever I notice people doing that, I just do the same with heaps of kikokens, short HSUs and legs. The kikokens keep a slight bit of pressure on, whilst they actually have to walk over to hit you, so… yeah.

Thanks for that Ark. I never knew that. You always learn something new on SRK

It’s not really that they fear Chuns, or anyone for that matter. It’s simply the fact that if they don’t have to come to you,( if they have life lead, for example) a smart Zangief won’t. If you allow them to build meter by lariat’ing over and over, you are giving them an advantage when they finally attack you. It’s a hypothetical stretch, but imagine playing a Gief with unlimited super meter. They could risk using EX green hand to get in and cancel it safely every time. If you are refusing to punish the Gief player for building meter, you are essentially allowing them to have unlimited EX meter.

What do you think is the best way to stop them abusing lariat?

Sweep.

can someone teach me the wake up games after i scroe a knockdown from a point blank/mid range/max distance sweep? From looking at my games recently, i found that i waste all the sweep knockdowns

much thanks~

dash up sweep? , dash up hsu and pray they dont dp? dash up do nothing. safe jump. jump outside of their reversals range. bait a reversal and punish. all i can think of

against any one with some kind of dp. kikouken (blocked or hit) -> dash up hazanshu
then just kikouken -> dash up nothing
baits dp like a charm

There are a ton of wake up games as listed but it depends on the character your facing. I don’t use the same wake up game with every character. My wake up game againts blanka is different againts a shoto because I know their reversal options are different from eachother. Also the fact that if they have any Ex Meter built up depends on how much you should pressure.

I always look at their ex meter to judge how much I should push myself, but if they sitting on no Super bars, then I can be a little daring and keep the wake up game going.

i’ve noticed recently how afraid i’ve been to use a meaty cr.lk on wakeup. once i got implimenting it, every one of my mixups seemed strengthened. cr. lk (wiff) throw works better, empty jump cr.lk works, even just straight up tick throws.

i believe i’ve been playing way to low level players, i mean on wakeup vs a shoto with no meter, THEY SHOULD BE THE ONES TAKING THE RISK. i’ve been trained into thinking IM the one taking the bigger risk eating a dp.

fuk psn

hmmm I usually use standing roundhouse from range if they try and lariat my kiko, it beats punch lariat clean I think. But I watch their meter and see if they EX green hand, then I just block and punish. Whenever I try to sweep, it doesn’t hit their legs while in lariat…is this a timing issue or something?

I think jump in fierce punch x 2 beats lariat clean doesn’t it?

If you’re getting afraid of eating a dp that will effect your game against shoto’s, I’ve had a time where I was really struggeling against them, especially Ryu. What really helps is not doing anything on your first knockdown or even second. When they’ve been hit because their dp missed they will think twice about using a dp on wake up. Then you can really start your pressure. Of course if the player is really bad they will just always use dp on wake up, which makes it even easier because you can just always punish their missed dp on wake up.

Yep it does beat it, I had my doubts cuz I did it a few times and ate lariat but I noticed its cuz I jumped in while they crouched before doing lariat. Should work if you do it while they r spinning. Also I get that problem with sweep just going through his spin yet I know I’ve swept him out of lariat before???

j.Fierce does beat lariat if the punches land squarely on his head (I think any move with an angled down hitbox does, its just gotta hit his head cleanly).

As for sweep it beats one of the lariats clean everytime and the other one only at the end of the lariat move (like st.RH if you do that too early you trade/lose to lariat). cr.Strong should always beat out lariat regardless of which one it is and has good range…

Hey guys, I had a quick theory discussion question:

There are some players who are really good with psychic FA absorbing a poke, then dashing forward and throwing during the other player’s recovery.

It got me thinking – are there any normals against which Chun-Li could potentially psychic FA into dash Ultra and have the Ultra connect?

EDIT: I was going to post again here, but it was so long I created a separate thread for it.

I only made it too page 5 of this thread and I’ve been playing chun a year and it’s still so much I didn’t know. Or had too refine, I beat a rival of mine a few hours ago in G1 an akuma player that always beat me from G3 and up too now. I think he was surprised, hadn’t caught him in a few months. Caught him way off guard. thx for the great thread and info.

Hey guys, new SRK member, long time SF player here. I didn’t want to make a new thread about this and run the risk of being flamed so I’ll just ask here. I’ve been maining Chun for the past 3 months or so, love her. My problem is punishing Sagat’s tiger knees with her. I recently played a Sagat who spammed it, and I really don’t know where to start on how to punish a blocked tiger knee. I’ve search around here for tips on that situation but did not seem to find anything useful among the wealth of other info. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
