Chun Li General Thread: Blue Jade

She can counter hit into super off of c.mk, f+mp, and most important of all s.hp. Imo you should be fishing for the s.hp and c.mk counter hits if you need to land the clutch super from a safe distance. Also she has a dirty setup where she can do meaty b+fierce into Kara throw.

She was never bad, people just didn’t know what she could do.

Im used to playing characters that don’t just spell out why they’re good on the first day, so I knew things would come around. A character like Chun Li that requires learning the specifics of normal hit boxes and +/-s on block to see where she stands is not gonna stand out on simple videos of people hitting buttons.

I would say until we figure out some good ways to land her V Skill attack, it will be tough to call her an amazing character, but neutrally she has lots of great options. Her V Trigger is definitely super scary and gives her confirms and hit advantage off everything.

How much bar does her v-skill build?

It kinda sucks you have to give up on a lot of damage to punish people with it, and it’s really hard to make it connect outside of punishes.

Maybe tick into v-skill is a legit strat to blow up throw techs, since it’s airborne. There might be a spacing where you can tag them on the way up and still hit a stomp/crossup on the way down so that this tactic isn’t as punishable as whiffing the move entirely (I hope this made sense lol).

Tbh her v skill is pretty mediocre compared to other chars (I think only Ryu’s is worse), for now I would just gain it naturally by taking damage until we have a consistently playable beta where we can spend more time in the lab, without having to worry about bullshit.

I think they should keep it this way, because I fear if her v skill was any better, people would complain and what makes her great (v trigger) will get nerfed.

They took a LOT away from Chun Li, since the initial trailer. She doesn’t have the ground spin anymore, the air hurricane, etc. To compensate, they should at least make her Fireball command-- like SF 3rd Strike & SFxTK. To give her a command fireball, would simply equalize everything she has lost, since her first unveiling. What do you guys think?

Idk, her normals and walkspeed are already better than pretty much everyone else so far, and while her LL aren’t safe, they allow easy confirms into super. Giving her a command fireball might be too good, but I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to it ofc.

I think Chun is fine tbh. I got to play about 10 matches (one against Birdie, 4 Ryus, 4 Nash players, one Cammy) and there was never really a time where I felt she needed something to help in the match up. Actually, I guess I would say her jumping normals (besides nj HK) seem to lack range but I can’t remember correctly.

I was telling DJ, if they want us to actually use V Skill, make B+HK cancellable into it. The move looks like a launcher anyway, AAs (which would most likely make the V Skill whiff but we would still get toe taps afterwards for damage/stun), and only hits at point blank. It would give us a legit way to build V Gauge that only works as a punish or expecting a jHP/HK to hit (assuming B+HK connects after that) so it’s not something we can just combo into whenever. It’d be the same as crHP LK LLegs crLP SBK if they did that.

Has anyone been using crLPx3, crMK xx fireball as a block string in matches? I wasnt sure how safe it was or what you could do afterwards but I didnt think of it till I stopped getting matches.

Stun boost Chun gets from V-Trigger is awesome, although I feel the damage increase is lacking, Simple BNBs are really netting a whole lot more in V-trigger but the Stun is greatly increased.

D+Mk x 3 ~delay a bit and use J.Hk, St. Hk - 11 hit total.

If you land a J. Hp TC going into V-skill is pretty good option and better than most grounded options for combos as follows:
J. Hp TC, VS, D+Mk x3 xx EX ALegs 373 dmg/428stun
which better than landing St. Mp, Cr. Mk xx HK LLegs netting 315/404 (cancel into CA however is 469dmg, not bad and really easy)

CH - St. Hk dash up, St. Lp, St. Mp, Cr.Mk xx LLegs xx CA 470 DMG

She’s pretty juggly with her VT, a lot of her normals floats her opponents. Even her J.hk can float on A2A, she can do A2A J.hk>super juggle with cinematic like SF4 A2A j.hp>ultra juggle

I wonder if we should start activating V trigger when an anti air opportunity occurs. That would make our damage from a single anit air amazing.

Wow, I’m a big fan of these air juggles. Does her V-Trigger increase her juggle potential as well?

Probably be to slow for that to work, but I can see activating the V trigger, then setting up an AA situation to be worth it.

Holy shit, 300 damage AA thats insanely good. You won’t be able to jump at her at all when vtrigger is on

Yeah, as stated previously her V-Trigger seems almost essential to really deal the damage you want. Those air juggles are really solid, we just need the V-Skill to find some sort of utility that actually builds us V-Trigger meter.

I agree when someone said super shouldn’t be used during vtrigger since it takes up so much time. Trying to find max damage combos and juggles with full use of ex meter without super seems worthwhile imo.
