Which raises the question: does this apply to air legs as well?
Fuck, I hate the mash input. It is THE reason i picked up Chun in this and SFxT and didnât use her in SF4.
I hope to god that this is false, such a pointless change.
Well you can do either qcf or piano command, just youâll have to use piano to get that extra frame advantage. As long as she can still c.LP, s.MP, c.MK, SBK I wonât be bothered by it too much.
I donât really enjoy not being able to maximize the character i am using. I am hoping it is more of a " mash during the move thing " you know kinda like her SFxT version where you could mash during her Legs ( It was HCF IIRC) and get the additional frame advantage.
I hope that is the case.
I am just a pad warrior. I have learned all of the harder execution things about her in 5. The input is super uncomfortable on a pad.
I am just imagining that maybe cr.HP into LK legs then cr.LP into SBK wouldnât work because you need the mashed version to combo the cr.LP for example. That would suck ass for me.
Maybe I will just learn it. There was already a time when I couldnât do SBK combos and were super inconsistent with air legs. I am too invested in Chun-Li to drop her now.
I have spent like 20$ on outfits alone andâŚ

No way am leaving THAT behind.
Hereâs a Chun vs Four Wudeâs Akuma in a 2/3 set (at 5:07):

I wish the Chun player wouldâve went for more stuff to pick apart, but a couple things I gather is that cr. HP xx Legs, cr. LP xx SBK is still a thing (I doubt the player went for the new mash version of legs). Also V-trigger lasts about 12-13 seconds now when it used to last 17 seconds⌠still doesnât drain specials. You gain V-gauge after hitting someone with a button out of V-skill.
You can see that she canât really cross under after AA.
We get v gauge for landing an attack during v skill?
The BUFFS.
Donât worry @amrraed just gotta believe. If you were a stick user youâd have that stuff down in a couple days
Shoulda always been like that. Although I made peace a long tme ago that the only way to fill Chuns gauge practically was by taking a beating. CC was always too sporadic for me to ever get it filled all the way by that method.
I hope im not the only one who thinks this. But i dont like that they nerfed IALL to -2 on block. Her air legs is one of her best pressure tools. But its not something that most would consider to be easy to do. Its something that takes a lot of practice and a bit of skill to do.
I would be ok with a nerf. But at least make it 0 on block. So its back to a neutral game.
I kinda like this nerf for the sake of the metagame. I find that SFV is too focused on pressure and not actually thinking when on oki or neutral. I donât want to sound like a scrub, but I find this constant pressure game to be more annoying than fun and the only way to solve most of these problems is to just wait or v-reversal.
Iâm pretty sure they made instant air legs -2 to discourage mindless pressure game and also recovery on throws take longer for the same reason.
Because of this, maybe the game could be more about positioning and utilizing buttons for things other than upclose blockstrings, so perhaps Chun-Li could still remain top-mid tier after the Season 2 update?
Since we donât know all of the details yet. I think that -2 on block for this move is fair IMO.
I think her not being able to get decent damage from it via a BNB might be problematic. Getting something like cr.LK x2 into legs isnât exactly fantastic IMO. Before we would get what like 210 ( LK SBK ender ) and 225 or something like that on (MK SBK ender). Now i canât see us getting anything past 150 and without a knockdown Oki, well without spending meter on EX legs that is.
cr. LK, cr. LP xx LK SBK might still be possible after air legs. I still canât confirm if that chain from cr. LK to LP is still in, but I think Justin did the chain cr. lk, cr. LP, cr. MK after showing off the V-trigger cancel off of legs combo. It irks me that the camera person moved the camera away from the screen, so I canât be 100% sure⌠it was 4 hits total:
@Darklightjg1 Yeah you are right, it does look like he did cr.LK, cr.LP, cr.MK after the V-trigger activation, yeah.
Doesnât she get additional frame advantage on light in V-trigger ? What makes me think that cr.LK into cr.LP might be gone is the fact that other wise the cr.LK being special cancel-able buff would be kinda pointless.
I always do cr.LK, cr.LP xx Legs anyways. What exactly is gained from cr.LK getting a special cancel properties.
Maybe we would need to do cr.LKx2 into LK SBK. Maybe that would work now.
What is gained is that a low chained into itself keeps people blocking low. They canât mash reversals (i.e. the directions to start a reversal) or try to walk back once they start blocking the chain or else theyâll get hit on the 2nd or 3rd hit⌠and then you can confirm that part into a combo. This was a very common tactic in SF4 for Chun.
That might be great at complementing her throw game.
This may help the new players that are afraid of piano legs. Itâs not too hard once you get it. The video is from SF4 but if the command still holds (5 button presses with the last press being the strength of the legs) then it will still work. Watch from 4:39 until about 6:00 (the link isnât working properly on these forums for some reason. The rest is irrelevant for SF5.
Watch: 4:39 - 6:00
If she gets a buff to her throw range Im good
@GoofyhanD That slide input displayed in the video has always been a solid way to do mash inputs. Another way you can do it depending on the button is by plinking and pianoing. In 4 Gen would plink cr.MP (MP>LP), then piano LP>MP>HP to get cr.MP xx HP hands. In 5 Chun Li should be able to plink cr.MK>LK and then piano LK>MK>HK or HK>MK>LK to buffer legs off of cr.MK without losing charge. I imagine you would use the slide method to do the same off of b.HP. Between the two methods mash inputs are actually pretty easy, but the slide method can be rough on your finger if you do it a lot (hence the glove in the video). I kind of just learned to do that one pressing the buttons lightly instead of putting my finger all the way down and sliding from there.
Edit: although I canât imagine piano inputs on pad. I donât even think thatâs practical
Mah nigga! Long time no see, whatâs really good man?
I forgot: cr. LK xx LK Legs, cr. LP xx LK SBK might also be possible after air legs since you can do that now with cr. LP xx LK Legs, cr. LP xx LK SBK. As long as the pushback isnât too far it should be fine. I forgot about that/didnât use it because it was less optimized than cr. LP, st. MP, cr. MK xx SBK and slightly more risky to confirm with since cr.LP xx Legs are punishable on block and sometimes I couldnât tell if IALL hit low enough to link the cr.LP.
Iâm confused. Iâve read so many conflicting things about Chun-li changes. Iâve read that iALL is -2 on block and hit, +3 on hit and -2 on block, I heard it canât combo anymore period. Has there been a confirmation on what it really is?
