Currently my worse habit is to try and focus backdash jump ins And in this game pressing the “focus buttons” as someone jumps at you leads to a lot of damage on the poor sod running in lol
Sorry if this belongs in the match up thread, but anyone having any luck against Abel? Frame traps are really good, and I don’t know what to do against his Option Select Versailles Roll/Cartwheel Kick when I tech roll and if I just get up, he Tornado Throws me.
is it just me or is Hazanshu not an overhead anymore? I’ve had it blocked low several times online…
Lk is not considered an overhead — BZZZT Brain Frak — Mk and Hk are still overheads
and MK HSU is great to use going into Cross Rush
side note:
I still wish Legs were not motion based!!! Or the least be QCF (opposite of Ibuki’s spin kicks “Tsumuji” side-side note I hate Ibuki in this game)
You still try to focus backdash too? High five and join the club!
On a positive note, it looks like her sweep option select from SF4 is still in the game. (Remember that teaser that showed Ryu’s sweep and SRK OS’s from SF4 being in SFxT?) I could have sworn I did a couple yesterday.
Are there some characters who can tag and be followed by Chun-li’s super art ?
I am still trying to find her partner.
That’s my team as well, in terms of decent team combo’s I’m not finding many huge damage ones but, Chun has good zoning and poking and plenty of ways to set up situations for Asuka to get “in” for free (as Asuka totally sucks at mid to far range as far as I can tell). Asuka’s Chain combo’s offer her plenty of pressure and from Chun’s launcher you can get pretty good damage with her without spending meter and leaving you in a good position to pressure (or space with NJ.mk on their wake up to keep pressure on regardless of if they roll or not)…
However I struggle with the game a bit when fighting other people atm cos I’m still playing Chun like in SF4 (including trying to find leg loops and even still pianoing legs on autopilot)… I really hope Chun can really apply pressure with legs as that was kinda my style in SF4.
Also people are asking about frametraps! Now is it just me but doesn’t Chun have all the traps she had in SF4 plus you can just delay your string inputs to create traps or do the classic cr.lk, cr.lp, stand then duck into pretty much anything to blow people moving to quickly after blocking or hold towards off it and do cl.rh xx lk HSU etc…
Yup, lights/ crouching lights to far s. mp (to legs… what fun) e.g. c. lp, c. lp, … s. mp is still there, as far as I can tell. Ye olde c. lk’s (blocked, sometimes walk up) to throw is still there too. I have yet to try the SF4 style c. lk, c. lk, close s. hk though.
Same team as me then lol, using Cammy/Juri atm but might switch one of them for Chun, probably Cammy if anything.
Skatan! welcome – glad to see you as I know I’ll learn something from your stuff.
on a side note is anyone finding linking to cross rush xx into Ex Kikouken semi difficult? (haneyama style)
seems like you really have mash the chain which is just weird for me. I’m not used to hitting buttons ahead of when I need them
but for successful execution I’m nearly doing the kikouen motion before Chun’s st. Hp animation even starts. I don’t really dig that.
I’ve really got to figure out something, I’m only D+ rank and the game keeps matching me with solid Cs and B’s who clearly have a better understanding of the game than I do. Winning percentage went from 63% to 50% haha. God I hate ranked matches – why do I put myself through that?
Have any of you fought against a good Poison? I’d like to get some tips. I got so frustrated in a set of matches against one. It was just like… she could do everything Chun could but better. I guess the some advantages I noticed Chun had was a higher damage output, her pokes on average are longer (which doesn’t negate that Poison still has better than average pokes), and her fireballs traveled further across the screen. Let me get to the problems I had.
-Poison’s fireballs are cancellable. This gives her an edge in a fireball game because she can inch closer and closer to you or stay further away depending on what they player wants. Partially because of the next reason…
-Her flip kick move (Love Me Tender) is basically like a superior hazanshu. It’s EX version tracks so it can close the distance from full screen. It’s safe on block (at least I think so.) It can also be combo-ed after. Chun’s hard hazanshu knocks down and her light and medium can only be combo-ed if it lands deep. Chun’s ex hazanshu can be combo-ed after though. But imo it seems like Poison has the advantage in this comparison.
-Poison has a meterless “get off me” move with her DP. Chun has her ex sbk but it’s easily stuffed as well as costing meter.
-Poison has a more consistent anti-air. Her cr. fierce prevents pretty much all jump-ins. Chun’s anti-airs don’t seem quite as good. I could just not be using them properly though. I’ll admit it.
-Because Poison has a superior ranged game due to her ex love me tender, and a superior game up close because of love me tender and safe on block rekkas (which at the players whim can decide to go for the full rekka or not if they predict you pushing a button) This leaves a very small space where her few pokes which are better than Poison’s can function and win. Yet she can jump-in with her jumping fierce and if you try to anti-air it, it will usually trade. If you attempt to jump-in on her, you will usually get beaten out by her cr. fierce or a dp.
-Because Chun lacks a reliable “get off me” move she is subject to pressure. Poison can pressure her with blockstrings that are all safe for her. If you touch a button you will get hit. The only way I was able to find a way to get out was jumping out. If you get too predictable with it though she can overhead you or adjust her blockstring.
-Poison also has more health
-I’m not sure if this is accurate because I don’t know the frame data… but it seemed like Poison’s cr. lp came out faster than Chun’s cr. lp or cr. lk. If that is accurate then she can just keep throwing that move out in blockstrings and continue attempting to break through your defense.
Is there some weakness that I wasn’t able to see? Or was I just not using Chun’s strengths properly? Or do you think that this is potentially a bad 1v1 matchup for Chun?
Man trials 17 and 19 are kicking my ass. 17 I don’t get what’s going on and why my target drops before I can jump up again. While 19 I’m struggling linking LK after the HSU.
Linking is hard in this game.
Its not hard its just SLOW… Its really odd timing but basically you have to wait until the animation from one hit has almost finished before you press the button, I struggle with it still when I’m in battle as I’m trying to link too fast. In fact the entire game feels clunky and slow to me atm
I had that same feeling at first but it’s started to feel very fluid now that I’m adjusting. I’ve been playing way too much of this game, though. x] I’ve played 12+ hours each day since launch. :\
Can’t say I have run into a “good” Poison. Damage output for a SINGLE character is an illusion cause its a team game and cross tag combos are so important.
The weaknesses you mentioned are what characters like Rolento will have over Chun-li anyway.
For anti-airs depending on the character, s.MK and s.HP are my goto buttons. It’s been a lot easier to use s.MK as an anti-air than in SSF4 definitely though.
Remember if you whiff a s.MP, some characters’ jump will just straight up punish it, so you have to be extremely careful on what you’re throwing out.
Definitely two things that Chun-li’s game that is different from other characters is poke range and SBK. If you can find the right setup or punish, SBK can setup incredibly strong combos.
Don’t know if this has been posted but instant overhead jump rh connects on Hugo, and you can immediately tag cancel for a combo. Not sure how much leeway there is, feels pretty tight trying to combo into Asuka’s jab. Kind of risky though.
Yeah its in Luds max meter combo vid in the vid thread section, tis really hard to do though
Well I really hate to do this, because I was so set on this team working but I just can’t seem to make it work – Juri, step aside – Law is stepping up into my main team partnering with Chun. Very VERY weird of me to play a male cast member! LoL!
Anyone else running this team I’d love to talk to ya!! I’m off to the Law thread to dig up what I can.
I think Chun/Juri actually makes a lot of sense, but to each his own I suppose. Good luck with Law!
