After several days in training mode, I can finally do mk.sbk combos and IALL consistently. The only problem is I’m constantly turtling because I’m trying to have a charge built up and end up getting rushed down and wrecked. This is why I’ve always avoided charge characters. I know she only has two charge moves, but any helpful tips for using charge characters? And is Chun Li one of the characters that can use jabs to AA cross ups, and if not what are the best ways to deal with them with her?
You only really need to walk back and charge to throw fireballs. The rest of her game plan can be played like a motion character other than her combos.
Jump back and hit mp to stop cross up attempts in the neutral. You can combo into hk or ex legs
Thanks, that’s already helped a lot.
I agree with DevilJin, after a crush counter you have enough time to dash up and go st.mp, cr.mk xx SBK. You almost always have enough time to get charge on any of her moves once a combo is started, so don’t worry about holding charge - focus on your footsies.
I also found a pretty nice v-trigger combo. If you hit st.fierce punch and cancel into v-trigger from inside the max distance (almost just inside works, but closer is better to be sure), you can go cr.fierce xx lt.legs, cr.jab, cr.mk xx SBK. I think it’s the most damage you can get cancelling to v-trigger outside a jump in. Does about 340 or 380-ish. Can’t remember.
If you do get a jump in - Jumping Fierce punch (x2 hits), cr.fierce xx v-trigger to v-skill, stomp x3, fall a bit then fierce kick, then CA.
The CA is a bit hard to time, but you can do 521 damage with this combo. I have found no other combo that does more damage.
I’m not the best typing out combos, so I may not have explained that properly - let me know if you have questions.
Does anyone go for slide cr. mp -> v-trigger -> cr.mk xx msbk? Seems like the range is really picky on when it works.
I usually try for cr.jab then cr.mk xx sbk, but thats why I like the st.fierce -> vtrigger, cr.fierce xx lt.legs, cr. jab, cr.mk xx sbk. The standing fierce puts you much closer than the slide does and allows you a much higher damage combo. Forward or back standing medium punch is similar in this regard, but fierce is better.
You could go into CA too…cr.jab, cr.mk xx fierce legs xx CA. I think this combo does close to 500 dmg (st.fierce, v-trigger, cr.fierce xx lt.leg, cr.jab, cr.mk xx fierce legs xx CA).
I only do this on counter hit if I’m not in range for a jab before the cr.fwd. Otherwise I’ll just do ex legs.
What’s the best combo you guys do after you hit-confirm:
[] down-forward + mk (her overhead)
[] down-forward + hk (flip over opponent)
In vt, df+mk crlp crmk xx msbk
If df+hk hits close, crhp xx l legs crlp xx lsbk
Keep in mind, like Mr. X mentioned - you can only combo after her overhead attack if you are in v-trigger. In my experience, even if the overhead is a counter hit, you can’t combo unless you’re in v-trigger.
i keep wanting to play her like 3s chun which constantly gets me bodied. ;(
That’s exactly why I picked her up because of how much she was like her 3S version. I mean you can’t literally beat everything with b+HP anymore and c.MK can actually be stuffed by things, but they both kinda work like they used to where b+HP can stuff most standing buttons from a large distance and c.MK can low profile some things and is cancelable.
s.HP has long range and is tough to whiff punish and works kinda like 3S b+HP once you have meter where you can just swing it around and confirm super. You can use it as a long range poke like you could in 3S just with more vulnerable frames before it lands.
i forget chun even has combos. lol
Well she didn’t really have combos in 3S other than button into super lol
Is it me or pulling off Super through a fireball in this game is more difficult than Ultra used to be in IV? I hear that fireballs are weaker in this game than in IV yet I have more difficult time reacting to them with Chun’s super. The game in general feel sluggish and my wrist gets fatigued rather quickly, too, which is strange because only a couple of years ago I used to piano the Lightning Legs in IV for prolonged period of time without a problem. I have played both the IV and the V on PC, so there should be no difference in lag?
It’s easier since it’s motion now. Plus prolonged zoning isn’t as prevalent in V as it was in IV. Dash Super through fireballs is definitely easier.
Welp, so that means it is me getting rusty and old.
For any new beginners who are joining the Chun side of life, heres a guide of Chun-Li’s season 2.5 build.

Thanks for posting! I decided yesterday to main her, and was coming to this thread to ask for 2.5 tips!
I’m coming from Akuma and realize it won’t be an easy transition, but I’m really sick of Akuma’s extra stubby limbs and I’ve wanted to try and be a serious Chun main for a while now, so now seems like a good time.
