I’ve been meaning to post more on the crane stance and keep the Lei community update. Later on today I’m going to post what reversals the Crane stance MP are useful against and not useful against so that the Lei community will learn the matchups more.

Remember, Lei is the most dangerous character in the game when it comes to Oki (IMO). Its almost 75/25.

Just a quick note to say this thread isn’t dead - just been away. I’ll put some time into adding frame data to the thread so it’s easier to spot the traps.

Anybody know how to record on the PS3? I have a hauppauge hd pvr 2 and I want to post video clips but I’m having trouble. Any suggestions?

You can’t use the HDMI from you ps3 because of the Sony copyright stuff, youll have to use the RCA jacks and you should be fine.

I been playing Mahvel and actually I blew the dust off my copy and dropped the loot a few weeks ago for the DLC, the whole reason I bought this game in the 1st place was to play Lei, lol. I lost my blutooth but we should get some sets in so you can show me what that A rank Supercop is like fam.

Heck Yeah! Lei is the main reason I bought the DLC too. You already know I’m down. Just hit me up!

I think it’s worth knowing that stances have priorities between each other too. It is:
Snake>Back Turned>Drunk

This means that if you do qcb+3K, you’ll get snake instead of back turned which you input at the very last. qcf+3K gets you snake as well. If you like walking back and forth and go to drunk all of a sudden, inputting back -> forward + 3K very fast gives you back turned, not drunk.

Have you found any use for snake? I can use it every now and then to catch people off guard but it seems useless. I know it will be better when you can normal can snake but as of right now snake and panther stance seem pretty “bleh”.

Not many ppl play this game so my main playground is training mode, but out of (very) few experience I had in-match with Lei, I seem to get into this stance when I want to do… well, everything involving pokes. This stance’s MK is in fact a pretty good counter-poke with its deceptive range and huge number of active frames even with its slow start-up, HK is a solid AA, MP is an okay poke which can also work as an AA (but trades with good jump-ins like Heihachi’s j.HK) and can go into Dragon, LP>MP>LP is +1 on block so I can go for pressure afterwards, etc.

The problem seems to be that the other stances are much better at certain aspects that Snake feels like jack of all trades (eg. Crane HK is a much, much better poke than Snake HP, Dragon’s MP>f+2P is much better on block than Snake string, Panther’s MK>rekka is a decent frame trap and stays a true blockstring after the first hit of rekka if you don’t delay it + can work as AA, Tiger looks cool), so the usage of Snake would naturally decrease as you get better with other animal stances. Another problem is that all of Snake normals get eaten by launcher or anything that is crouch attack invincible, which hurts a lot since Snake feels more poke oriented than other stances.

Snake and Tiger are the two animal stances I use the least. However, I do use Snake more often against Kazuya, since his step is still invincible to all but crouching attacks, and snake punches are the only crouching normals from animal stance that give advantage on hit. The best thing about this is that you can simply walk up and press buttons unlike cr.LKs, where you have to walk up, crouch down, then press buttons. I can see using Snake much more after patch with HP CH crumple and LP 3f start-up, not to mention MP will be +2 on block (btw, from what I checked last time, MP can be punished on block with Ken, which means it’s -2 since it’s not SRK punishable. They increased 2f of blockstun and it’s now +2 on block? I wonder how it will be on hit.)

Well I play Lei alot and I haven’t found a good use for snake. Wasn’t sure if LP>MP>LP was +1 on block or not so that is very good to know because people like to mash out against Lei and that can easily set up Dragon stance MP>f+2P. I’ve been abusing crane stance so I’m trying to switch it up. The main 2 I’m trying to figure out are Snake and Panther. I was thinking that snake could be used for Kazuya but I wasn’t sure. I didn’t know if all snakes moves could be launched out of or not. As a matter of fact people like to just throw raw launcher out like its nothing on Lei. Even Dragon Stance MP can be hit by raw laucher but I think that may be a hitbox/hurtbox issue.

I will say this. I find tiger very useful, especially against shotos. I mainly go to it mid screen against them to bait a DP and then use PPP to cause a crumple. Or I’ll just play mind games with them and step back a bit and sweep them. The good thing is that Tiger stance is getting a HUGE buff IMO. You can cancel the Tiger Stance sweep into PPP and I believe Tiger Stance PPP is plus 4 on block (not sure), but I do know that PPP is getting a bigger hitbox which is great because sometimes people throw out moves and I still miss.

I’m going to play around with Snake and Panther (mainly snake) and hopefully I come up with something. I feel like all of Lei’s stances were designed to counter each member of the cast in some way shape or form. Thanks for the help Street. Hopefully you play the game again when the patch drops.

Like I said, I lack in experience. If I do play, it’ll always be against the same few ppl, and none of them is unfortunately a shoto, so my opinions are flawed. I’m really grateful that you can find a tactic against shotos :slight_smile: I fail to find a Tiger stance usage against someone like Rolento or Guile.

All Dragon moves and all Panther punch buttons are considered crouching attacks as well, so they’ll get eaten by launcher, whereas all Tiger moves are considered standing (including sweep) so they won’t.

I do think Snake’s MP>MP>MK>LK>MK is really good. If you want to combo, you do have to switch, but even if you don’t, it still gives you an opportunity for a Drunk mix-up. On block, you can MP>MP then go into Dragon, where you’ll be left -4 with a fairly long pushback. I was hoping they would give Panther rekka an ability to go into all 5 animal stances like regular one; currently the only thing it does is open Lei to Alpha Counters/Reversals and some damage with Lei negative on hit if they hold down-back (but goes into Crane). Usually I walk around with these two and use Crane/Dragon strictly for close-range combat and, in case of Crane, normals without walking.

I’m going to stick with him no matter what, and he got a lot of buffs with only a few noticeable nerfs. I just hope more ppl play the game itself after patch.

My tag partner plays Guile so I know that match up pretty well. He is the best Guile on PSN so its a good challenge. When I play my Lei against other Guiles its pretty free compared to him. Flashkick pretty much beats Tiger PPP. I like to sit back and make them think I’m going to hit them with a drunken stance combo and then tiger sip them. Go into the MP>MP>F+2P and tag my partner in for more damage. For Rolento I use Tiger PPP as a meaty attack on his wake up. It catches mashers perfectly if timed right. It also works against Cody and his sand attack. If you are ever on PSN I’ll show you what I mean.

I wish I could play online, but I’m addicted with offline gameplay now. Can’t even handle several frames of latency :frowning: I have SFxT only on XBL anyways.

I guess what frustrates me about Guile is that I can guess correctly and flip kick right when he shoots sonic boom yet he can still recover in time to block. I just switch out to point (Xiaoyu) unless I’m playing 2v2, or I turtle myself dodging all his projectiles until he feels impatient enough to walk forward. If I get hit or block by a mistake, then well, I have to force myself to go forward. It’s just an annoying match-up.

I use Panther against Rolento a lot. He seems weak against Panther’s LK and HK button.

I would love to see how you guys are transitioning between stances. That is the only problem im having at the moment.

For which stances?

Tiger dragon panther. Ive got the corner juggle combo for dragon and tiger, but of course that is situational . But for panther ive only been dojng raw or ra zors edge

Usually I just use Razors edge to get to panther or if I get lei in off a boost combo I will use razors edge to go onto dragon. From dragon I can go into Tiger, Crane, or snake.
