Sick stick

Bit nervous to post this here, since I know mine doesn’t look close to the quality of some of these fantastic custom jobs in this thread!

Having said that, I’m quite proud of what I have here, It uses the only the finest parts!
…
Did I say finest? Sorry, I meant ‘Cheapest’. :razzy:

Since this was the first attempt at building a stick, I figured I would start out as cheap as I can, so if I did fuck something up, it wouldn’t be a huge loss.

MDF wood was salvaged from an old delivery crate, took the 360 PCB out of a pad bought from Hong Kong for very cheap, perspex was only $6 from a local supplier, and the buttons are all Zippy parts.

All up it cost about just $10 more than a Wireless controller would cost me at ebgames, so I’m very happy about it. It’s my first ever stick, so the build quality isn’t perfect, but It certainly gets the job done and everything is in working order!

I do hope to make another using better quality equipment at some stage, I have another Zippy stick and buttons left over from the bundle so I can work on a second one using those eventually. The next one I make would certainly be a bit smaller, this one ended up being a real beast (good for playing on one’s lap though).

This was a lot more work and money than I thought it would be, but it was pretty fun.

Good for you doing a scratch build. It’s a continual learnig curve with these things so keep going and build some more!

Here’s an older picture of my stick, the art and buttons have been changed out since then. My first custom order from EmptyShiki, if you live in the Chicago area, check his stuff out.

Built By : EmptyShiki
Stick : Sanwa JLF
Buttons : Semitsu Violet
Ball Top : Semitsu Violet Bubble Top
PCB : Toodles C. Board for PS3/USB/MAME

Finally finished my stick today…

  1. Went all the way to Japan to get parts (well…actually i was going to Japan for vacation and just happen to get parts there >_>)
  2. Ran all over the place for lami-label in Canada (which didn’t happen, I just got it laminated and used the 3M spray…which worked better than I thought it would)

Closer Look:

The art was made by me…but I borrowed various images and patterns from other ones so I take no credit for them…only the compilation of them ^_^.

Parts are all Sanwa btw.

I have to say…the madcatz parts are really poorly made, the locks for the gate doesn’t have enough space to relief the locks from the stick itself (i used a drill to break the gate), the buttons broke into pieces when i disconnect them from the wires, and just generally poor quality…i’m glad i did the mod and changed to sanwa parts.

I’m all about that Rog stick with the Happ parts.
That is money.

Nice work man. I love the clean look of that stick, no anime BS on it or anything.

ergo proxy stick would be my choice!

Fucking awesome!

Thanks

Welcome.

just finished this yesterday, did it for my friend. all sanwa buttons, stick, seimitsu start and back buttons. and painted the trim and bezel with vynil dye.

butteroj, that’s a sick Balrog stick you got there. Where’d you get the art from? I saw that for a custom made by Dancing_Destroyer

The customer supplied me with a couple dif pics and I pshopped them together.

Just finished my SE stick Mod. First stick I ever modded!

-Buttons are Sanwa (except stock black ones which I never use).

-Seimitsu Ball top

-Octo gate

-Art is from Capcom’s Dead Rising videogame

-Getting JLF soon!

Stick was a little labor of love, especially in the heat LA has been experiencing lately. Took me two tries to put on the art, but now I have a stick that combines two of my greatest passions; zombies and fighting games!

that vinyl dye always looks good at first but i don’t trust it to hold up to a lot of play and travel. anyone have pics of one with heavy use a year or 2 old?

That, I like!
