Nice !
Is this wood ? There’s no joint, it’s really nice !
Nice colors; but I’m wondering about the button layout too.
Posted this in the project box topic, but figured people might want to see it here as well. I modded my HRAP EX I posted on page 3 of this topic to be a project box setup:
My HRAP EX with the DB-15 port installed (all internal PCBs removed except for the guide button PCB, I was able to wire it up like another button):

All the boxes laid out with labels for their system (used 10 cent VHS boxes from the flea market as cases):

It works really well and can now be made to work on all kinds of systems (planning SNES and Saturn boxes next).
Those are both very clean. Very impressed by both cases.
Thanks very much. The button placement came about after a few different quick mock-ups that I put together with mdf. First of all, I made the decision to have the function buttons on top rather than on the front or sides because I was constantly bumping them while using the mock-ups on my lap. Also, I chose not to center them on the panel because it gave them too much presence being right there in the middle. They are slightly offset.
Second, the eight button may look strange but it is very very comfortable. Each button falls naturally under your fingertips. Another advantage of this layout is that each button is very close together. In fact, I calculated the spacing exactly so that the Seimitsu button rings would be touching each other on the bottom. This cuts out a lot of hand fatigue you may encounter by spreading your fingers.
Also, as a bonus, when playing BlazBlue I use a the first three buttons as “A,B,C” and the lower first button as “D”. The “D” button can be easily reached with your thumb so your hand does not move and your pointer finger doesn’t need to do double time.
Thanks
awesome sticks. great stuff!!
The reason is pretty simple.
Imp: $9
RJ45 Keystone: $1
I thought about imp for the guide button, but it’s not that big of a deal. I could just add a button, too. Plenty of room on the huge hrap case to work with.
I finally got around to printing my template for my sentinel HRAP3.
damn, i had some issues when doing this thing… first i put everything together, and i realized i forgot to put the bat top on… then somehow the UP connection to the pcb got severed, so i had to use my lackluster soldering skills to re-attach it. Then finally, after getting it put together again, i crossed the start and select wires…
christ… just glad its done. i now have another functional stick.

thanks to the HRAP3 template thread for pointing out that legal sized paper would work just fine… i was thinking i would have to wait and find a place to print tabloid sized… also i now have learned my mom’s printer will do tabloid… GLEE… i really need to break down and buy me a nice printer. oh well…

The new Finkle and Stevetren. Both are dual modded!
I love what u did with the box! Nice stuff!
you should get a pink button for the third just because… haha
my collection:
-case from voltech (my newest)
-jlf with ls-33 spring
-obsn-30 (may change colors in the future)
-NAUSB

All the others i have posted in the first “i love my arcade stick” thread.

That stevetren box is awesome. wondering what you use to put that cord into the middle of the box. Did you cut it and then solder it on the inside?
Exactly. Thanks for looking!
Heres my new Tager edition TE mod!

I wanted to use orange this time, and it was difficult finding something that fit as the buttons turned out a little lighter in color than I expected.
It turned out pretty good, and the full plexi makes it look even better (although makes taking a good pic a bitch since it reflects everything). Sorry for the badly lit crappy pics
That’s really impressive for your first build. Were there any specific problems you had along the way or did everything go smoothly for you?
As a Dhalsim player I think I understand the layout. I’ve been thinking of slanting the buttons out as well. After playing for hours my wrist hurts due to the angle my forearm comes in and then my hand points forward.
Hitting 3 punches all day for teleporting does a number on my wrist. I think that if my wrist could stay straight I would be able to play longer without taking a break every 2 hours.
On my days off when I play 8 hours I go to sleep with a sore wrist.
Man both you guys are some lucky dudes, those customs are incredible. Awesome job to all stick makers!
one of my best friends was coming over to play Sensible Soccer on my Amiga 1200 (he agreed to be my sparring partner for an entire afternoon since I’m going to attend the World Championships along with the rest of the italian team later this week) but called while on the way here to inform me that he had forgotten to pick up his joystick, so this is what I’ve managed to put together with a bunch of scrap parts and some leftovers from my previous custom-stick in roughly a hour and a half (I knew he used to love the TAC2/Competition PRO-style controllers back in the days so that’s what inspired the design):

not as polished as I would have liked but not too shabby either for just a couple hours of work. I’ll prolly tweak it a bit next week and get it painted.
By the way, You can either keep it in your left hand Konix Speedking-style (hence the lateral button, you’d push it with your left thumb while holding the stick with your right hand) or place it on a table/desk and use it just like any other arcade-stick.
For those who’re curious I got the “Challenge Court” logo from an old tennis shirt I used to wear in the 90’s (it belonged to some overly colorful line of clothing made by Nike that Andre Agassi used to wear back then), I just folded it and scanned the huge print on the back lol.
Sterling work, my friend! I’m going to get to work on something similar the minute I have my funds sorted.
