No matter what character it is, there’s always going to be an archetype it’s based on. You probably don’t understand that, but in designers terms, these start out with very simple roots such as “the hero” or “the threshold guardian” and then branch from there. “Cat Girl” isn’t even the correct term to describe Taokaka’s archetype. She is in fact a ‘kemonomimi’ which is a commonly used archeype in japanese pop culture used to describe any human with animal parts. While you might think that ALL catgirls are the same for simply being cat girls, that would essentially be admitting that ALL fighting game guys are the same as Ryu since they’re muscle men who know kung fu. Taokaka might even be a true “Kemono” that is, since her profile lists her as a lycanthrope and she might not be as human as others think.
Taokaka’s design is solid. She may be a catgirl, but she’s not just your run of the mill moe kemo girl designed solely to appeal to people who are too insecure to appreciate the finer points of true anthropomorphism but still have a thing for tails and ears. Also, her personality contrasts with her appearance. For a character who looks like that, I would expect her to be psychopathic or sadistic. Instead she’s playful and childish (which you seem to classify as retarded)

believe it or not, anthropomorphism and kemono go back quite a long way and can be considered a valid artistic style, especially the latter which has been found in artworks dating back as far as the muromachi period. Also responsible for a lot of pioneering work in western animation and cartooning. (disney, etc.) It’s not just furries on the internet.
Kemonomimi is not ‘true’ anthropomorphism in that sense. It’s anthropomorphic characterisation. True anthropomorphism is when you take an animal character and give it the traits of a human, not the other way around.
Without anthropomorphism, characters like Blanka wouldn’t even exist.

I think the furry fandom is just as stupid as everyone else does. It’s an example of extremism and much like certain fighting game communities, refuses to change it’s stance on anything. I like anthropomorphic characters but all that ‘lifestyle’ shit is dumb and I want nothing to do with it. That’s not going to stop me from liking nonhuman character designs.
But this is not about me being furry or not. I don’t have to be a furry to see that Taokaka’s design is a work of genius.
