I bet you guys anything capcom will try to make CFE2
I haven’t seen a game cause so much drama in a long time but why if you don’t like the game you care called a Capcom hater? I love Capcom fighters but not too happy with this game. I love SNK fighters but was dissappointed with SvC Chaos and KOF MI.
I think the game is okay and all the low score reviews are justified. After playing for awhile I can say its, for me anyway, fun for alittle while and than its gets old real fast. I don’t know if Capcom was going for a old school feel or what but they can do better. To me, no one is really fun to play (well maybe the Alpha cast and that just to try new custom combos), worst soundtrack ever and they could atleast came up with a new boss. To be honest I can live with the graphics (after all I like KOF and they needed a facelift for awhile now.)
I know Capcom heads want to love this came cause its new and been dying for a new fighter and I wanted to love this game too but I can’t, if anything I feel cheated. You mean to tell me that they can put a big effort into RE4 for their fans and DMC3 for their fans but for their ever faitful fighting game fans who have been waiting forever for a new game this is our reward. Gee thanks . Now I’m not speaking for everbody cause everyone here can make up there own mind (well sometimes anyway) but I can’t help that fact that Capcom knew the diehards would by this game regradless and put out a half-ass effort.
But I do find it funny though that people who say “graphics isn’t everthing its about good gameplay” are the same people that diss KOF for its graphics and same old sprites. Hmmm . Anyway for all the fuse this game is making the facts are these:
-
Fanboys will love this game no matter what cause Capcom made it.
-
It will be in every major tourny (hell why not, CvS1 was deem tourny worhty and this game is way better).
-
Capcom will make a part 2 or upgrade and it will be 10x better than this one.
and
- Only time will tell what the true final verdit for this game will be. Its only a few months old so lets just sit back and see what comes out the woodworks. But I still feel cheated.
CFJ is like KOF: Neowave. Nothing terrible, but it’s all been done before. A thousand times before. Thus, I have no interest in either. Goes back to Richmond Hill to play Rumble Fish
I’d rather play MK: D. At least it has puzzle combat. Depsite how bland the puzzle game is, it’s still better than this piece of shit…
Actually it feels like 5 capcom fighters, but as someone on this site already said, that’s what they were trying to do. With that out the way, seeing as how I’m a Warzard/Red Earth fanatic, let me tell you, the Warzard characters have actually been toned WAY down. Both Leo and Kenji are missing moves and some of there special moves (ala Kenji’s flame pillar) have been turned into supers. Leo’s swords are scrcet swords in Warzard. You could switch between it and your standard sword before a match, not just do some corny overhead attack. Still, weither you’ve played Warzard or not, if you have any skill as a fighter you’d EASILY see how EASY, POWERFUL, and TIGHT the Warzard cast really is. Again I remind you that they haven’t been given an upgrade, but a down one. Still, upgrade or not if you play with them long enough your 5 cents might just change into a dollar.
man, excuses excuses. I reserved a copy of CFJ, but obtained a burn from a friend b4 the release date to give it a try (still with intention of picking up the retail version). This wasn’t an attempt by capcom to make a good game. This was a $$ decision made by capcom to slap a bunch of characters together in a 2 month period, put thier shiny logo on it, and call it a game. It’s not fun, doesn’t play well, looks terrible, and sounds terrible. If you waste your money on this game, you’ll want your cash back. If you waste more then an hour playing the game, you’ll want to hang yourself. There is NO excuse for this game. By FAR the worst game capcom has ever made.
“By far the worst game ever made”???
“I’d rather play Puzzle Kombat”???
Just close this thread already. Better yet, close down Fighting Game Discussion altogether.
The game is garbage. I was dissing this game before I had played it, and didn’t expect much. I was suprised that when I actually got my hands on it, it was actually worse than I expected.
even better, ban the retail sale of this game
Duh, well of course games like RE4 and DMC3 will have more effort put into them because those games stand to sell by the bucket load. Even if they made a brand new 2d sf by scratch that owned it’ll still sell like shit and they wouldn’t make any money on it. So they throw together a mugen in 5 minutes, sell a 5 figure copy amount and make some easy money, and the funny thing is all you people who bitch about it still went out and bought it so OWNED.
This isn’t the early 90s. SF is not mainstream anymore, get used to it
ok. my OFFICIAL afterthoughts on this game after sitting down with it more.
setting all complaining aside:
- the game is playable but just makes me want to take up cvs2.
- i don’t understand the red earth cast. they didn’t go into detail explaining why you have to level up at all. i’m not really understanding how to play as them. all i know is leo has a long ass reach and if you can get good with him, good Lord. =/
3.i’m not seeing the need for this to be a 2 on 2 game other than capcom just wanting to throw it in. what is the whole point of 2 on 2 if you can’t switch, life doesn’t carry over, and you don’t know who your opponent will switch to? it might as well just be one on one. or the option to have it one on two. cuz really, i just wanna play as bison. i’m forced to choose someone else when i don’t even see the need to. - there seems to only be a handful of stages in the game. this is more of a, sit at home and notice it sort of thing. it has nothing to do with gameplay but its just something you can’t help but notice.
- the music overall is not good to me, but i do like the boss music. it sounds like old sf a bit to me.
- ryu feels really limited without a dash as compared to the rest of the roster. guile, zangief and bison are strong.
as far as gameplay goes, the game is not that bad. its ok. its just that i know i when hearing the title capcom fighting evolution, think of an EVOLUTION. like every capcom guy that was ever in a fighter, plus ones that weren’t(like a viewtiful joe for example, or dante) in a 2 on 2(at least), marvel or even cvs2 style engine.
instead we got a (bad)cut/paste sprite job with crappy, “i just learned photoshop” menu/life bar screens, and a rip off of the ggxx soundtrack.
How is what’s there an excuse? You can’t say that wasn’t what they were trying to do unless you work at Capcom. Anyway, you probally don’t like the game play because you’re not used to fighting a Darkstalker without being able to air block (Street Fighter II). So if your playing as Ryu and your friend or the comp. somebody like Demitri, Your at a disadvantage. Now I agree that the backgrounds could have been a little better, mainly because they look so life-less, but I still don’t understand what you mean when you say it looks terrible. My qustion is, How? Altough the Darkstalkers sprites haven’t been re-done, they have had a few changes. For ex. look at Demitri’s laughing win pose and some of Jedah’s on CFE and then on Darkstalkers 3, you’ll see the difference. As far as sound goes when you beat the game you unlock that characters orignal game music, which can be played in arcade mode. So if you don’t like the music then you don’t like any of the music you’ve been listening to since the creation of that game.
This game’s BIGGEST 3 problems are this:
- A lack of modes (ala, survival, a gallery, a 2 player game reply), every fighter out now days should have at least one of these.
2.A lack of characters, MVC2 had 56 characters in it, CFE doesn’t even have half of that. Since they’ve pulled OLD sprites and re-used them they should have made the roster the size of MVC2 or bigger. That way everyone would get a chance to play as at one or two of their (series) favortie characters.
3.More series, with as many fighters as Capcom has they shouldn’t have put 3 Street Fighter series in. Hell you could have combined both the Alpha and II series into one. And playing in the other series style could have been a secret option.
Still it’s FUN, unless you’ve played Warzard, but even then you couldn’t play as Hauzer or Hydron, because the games bosses were unselectable even in Vs. mode. CFE is pretty and a lot of you know it. But even that doesn’t doesn’t make sense, because how many of you just sit there and stare at the screen while the game’s in play? It’s a game, not a comic book. Saying that it doesn’t look right, or sound right to me is an excuse.
instead of saying that the game is ass, i’ma tone it down a bit and be more clear on why i don’t like the game. the concept of the game is good, but how they executed it is not.
the backgrounds look like water colored concept art that got splashed with a ton of water and started to run/fade/dilute, etc. the movement in the characters in the background are a throw back to the early 90s. put it this way. this smilie: has more frames of animation than some of the background characters. in this day and age it just looks unprofessional. the jungle IMHO is the best looking stage. and even some of the characters/things in the background look like somebody set the opacity too low on them. they look like sketches that were water colored over a computer generated background. its not just that they’re so bad. thats not the thing. the thing is that we’ve seen games like sf3: third strike, marvel vs. capcom, etc. that have TIGHT animation and hand drawn backgrounds. we know what capcom is capable of doing when they try. cfe = a lack of effort on capcom’s part which is what is making so many of us complain.
true, but not enough. they look like cutouts. the entire pyron fight comes to mind. again, its a lack of effort on capcom’s part because we know they can do better. and its not just ds characters that look like that. ALL of the characters look like cutouts.
explain to me how cfe and where cfe is pretty? i think the opening of cfe, and the endings(thanks to udon) are hot. other than that, the whole game is a graphical failure.
and i stare at the game when its in play to see what i’m looking at. also when it comes to spending my money on a game i mean i want that company to have put full effort into making it. you can tell when a company is like “fuck it, lets just put something out.” again its more than just the game doesn’t look right. at this point its like they aren’t trying. all we want for them to do is to give us the same effort as they give the res evil fans.
Dude If u don’t like the game soo much and U know photoshop and shit make ur own dam awesome 2-d fighter by using the Mugen System and just stop playing CFE if u don’t like it so much geez
and send ur game to capcom and see if they see it ur way and make u feel happy… :bluu:
Also I don’t know what ur talking about GGXX sountrack rip off sounds nothing like GGXx to me…
Well I can help you understand the Red Earth cast a little more.
In Warzard/ Red Earth, you could select from 4 fighters (Leo, Tessa, Kenji, & Mai-ling). To make your character stronger you’d of course fight. By fighting you’d gain experience. Once you reached a certain level you would acquire a new weapon or move, hence why you have to level up in order to do certain supers. Capcom has taken that and applied it to the 4 selectable Red Earth characters in CFE. When you level up in CFE your attacks become stronger and your life increases just as it would in RE, Now in CFE your bar doesn’t increase, but you take less damage at level 3 than you would at level 1. You also regain a little bit of life. In order to do supers you must have an Orb, which you get by building up the meter. You also level up with that same Orb, not at the time you do a super but by pressing two punch buttons together (see manual for the buttons). The Red Earth characters are strong and very usefull you just have to get a feel for them and know how to work them. I hoped that helped if you were looking for some.
There is nothing that can be said to give this game aesthetic merit. The look of this game is deplorable by leaps and bound compared to Capcom’s previous releases. Actually you don’t even have to compare it to anything you can come this resolve on your own.
Concerning certain aspects of the look of the game, Demitri’s face disappears in between frames in his winning pose…thats acceptable? No one can honestly tell me with a straight face that this game is actually to par graphically. And on top of that Satoshi Ise should be fired for that horrible soundtrack how could he go from CVS2 (which wasn’t great but tolerable)to CFE. He should be fired for that crap he put out. That’s what happens when you let one of your best producers, Hideki Okugawa leave as well.
And before anyone flips out and says “You’re just complaining about the graphics and music”. No, no thats not true. You can look at previous post I contributed in this thread and see that I touched on other aspects as well. In terms of being able to put different characters from different series together actually isn’t a bad idea but there still needs to be cohesive gameplay in order for it to work. This is where CFJ (CFE) ultimately fails at.
I agree with Motoki’s previous post in that fact, this game really doesn’t deserve much compassion or empathy…Capcom has always had the adage to make pretty decent fighting games over the past 10 years or so and never seemed to falter graphically. Even with the gameplay component being important, the look of the game always seemed be conducive with its counterpart. Unless someone can explain it to me, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for this game to look and play as bad as it does outside of the simple and honest fact that there was no real effort put into it.
To anyone who doesn’t agree with me…play CFE…and then go play Alpha 2, Alpha, any of the Versus Series that actually was made on CPS Hardware, and tell me if CFE looks “fine” now.
How does the progress look to you when you see the presentation of,
-Alpha series and Versus Series —>SFIII Series—>CVS1---->CVS2—CFJ
That’s sad.
Udon’s efforts actually prove this point greatly! All of the Udon did such a tremendous job on the endings of CFJ that they almost seem out of place because simply that component to the game supercdes everything else. The staff Udon actually looked up to Capcom’s former Art Department as their art styles reflect a direct influence. Kinu Nishimura ( the only saving grace right now to the 2D department ) actually helped them to meet the quality Capcom usually keeps only to contribute that truly is the antithesis of what Capcom stood for with their fighting games.
There’s no denying that aesthetically and competitively this game is really the final nail in the coffin. Now we know why Noritaka Funamizu left Capcom abruptly after they began loke testing on CFJ.
There is no hope for them to capture the quality that they used to live by.
-Team Savior left about a decade ago
-Yoshiki Okamoto and Noritaka Funamizu (founding fathers of SF) left respectively in about 3-4 year span.
-CPS II and III (which are wwayyyyyyyyyy better than NAOMI) have been ditched
-Seemingly there isn’t much of the older Art Department
(CRMK,Ikeno,Sensei, and even Kinu (except for CFJ endings) all seem to have independent projects and dont really do much for Capcom anymore.
These all add up to them just not really having the concern needed to make a decent SF. Yoshihiro Ono had no business touching any SF game and thus we get CFJ.
If they dare make another CFJ I seriously think it’ll be even worse than the initial game.
if this game was sold for 15 dollars i would get it but 30 dollars is still way to much for this game
i want the 30 minutes back i wasted on this garbage. seriously, this is the laziest, non-effort work i have ever seen >_<
So the Capcom is not the Capcom we knew? Doh!
Which companies are the previous Capcom employees working for?
this game is fine. it’s good for some that it’s not thier cup of tea. now they can get a job. go work for SUBWAY ™!
