Excellebella is fast enough to catch someone going up offline.
I’ll usually just chain it into standing jab into the rest of the combo if they’re looking for the reset, then they’ll get lax and bopped with excellebella.

Maybe it has been fixed, but I don’t know yet. But I’d like to be able to combo into a command grab without having to use s.mp stagger. Also, I think you mean Pummel Horse.
Nope, I meant s.mp. Practically, Pummel Horse only combos into Ultimate Showstopper.
I’m not talking about catching people going up, I mean guessing that the opponent is going to jump in the first place. If you guess wrong and they stay on the ground, you whiff Excellebella and get punished. If you switch that with crouching lk and guess wrong, opponent blocks the low and you continue pressure.
Um… but you’ve been able to combo into MGR and DD with s.mp. Am I missing something?
what’s l.lk?
i presume hes meaning to use it to catch people jumping away from you. you can use it as an anti air. youll need to buffer something else into it though since you cant really hitconfirm a single light.
edit : just noticed it is l.lk, i think its a typo, probably means st. LK
I mean crouching light kick. I was thinking “low light kick” at that time and like an idiot, posted it as “l.lk”.
There was some confusion on the s.mp, so sorry about that.
Oh, “l”.lk. I should have realized that, but for some reason my brain kept wanting to think you were abbreviating lp lnl strangely. I don’t think that it’s a very good alternative for Excellabella though, even if it’s safer. You’d probably do better with j+f.throw.
Also, I thought s.mp could not stagger if it hit an aerial opponent? What I want to see happen is a combo end with s.mk, and actually combo into a MGR. I wanted to do it since I saw that Hulk combo video.

I saw all the combos that connected into the grab, and thought “Well shit, I want to do that.” I’m not a walking encyclopedia on FGs, I don’t know if this wasn’t new to Hulk at the time, or if it’s been present elsewhere, but all I know is I like it, and want to do it with Cerebella. It wouldn’t be broken either, it wold just give her an awesome space controlling tool after she gets that hit.
i dunno i do think that the cr.LK would be a better alternative to both the excebella and the j.Throw. it makes me wonder what else you can do in the air after youve whiffed a throw if you can do extra air attacks/block and whether you are vulnerable to trip guard or not. if you guess wrong and they stay on the ground youve just jumped right over them and left yourself possibly vulnerable.
times ive caught people with a cr.LK after j.LP restand i can never tell though whether they were holding upback to try and jump away or just blocking high since its impossible to tell. oh the things ill try when the patch drops.
When you whiff air grab, you go through the full recovery before you can act again. It’s basically your ass if you guess wrong, and you get next to nothing for landing it anyway (elbow drop to super without the OTG? k). And Excellebella is the same thing without the option-select, especially outside of the corner; you gain next to nothing for landing Excellebella mid-screen without a DHC of some sort.
That reset is basically high-risk/low-reward. Cr.lk turns it into low-risk/high-reward without even needing meter and works well anywhere on screen.
So! Now that US can cancel into combo, Pummel Horse is actually a legit threat (Pummel Horse -> US is a combo no matter how fast the opponent mashes out). Anybody tried adding this into their game yet? Any fooling around with the US -> Devil Horns follow-up? Also, any news on the new reflector hit would be nice. Anybody using it as a reset tool now that it’s no longer minus?
I decided to empirically test the Pummel Horse > c.MP link. I recorded a dummy mashing left and right as quickly as I could manage, and hit play as Bella mounts her and punches her face in. The c.MP still links, although it gets a little tighter. So Pummel, Showstopper xx Horns is unnecessary, assuming that I’m mashing properly.
Edit: Tested again, mashing d+l and u+r while mashing buttons, just to be sure. This is seriously a link, dood.
Do this instead. Record a dummy doing the combo while you try to mash out. I have managed to mash out of Pummel Horse stun more than once, otherwise I wouldn’t be pushing it so hard. Let me know what you get from that. I think it’s left-right, although you can try twirling in a clock-wise motion. If it still links after that, then yay!
Nope… I can’t wiggle out of the dummy recording, and the combo counter does not reset. I think this one’s good, view619. But it’s good we figured that out.
That’s good news then. I’ll be sure to stick that somewhere in my game.
you want to be mashing on diagonals rather than only left/right or in a full circle. i know other games follow the rules of it being the number of points you hit (U, D , L, R) rather than the speed you are doing it. or counting diagonal directions as a seperate input.
for example. mashing left then right is only 2 inputs, so LRLRLRLR is only 8 (which isnt much)
by the same token doing a full circle you will hit L which is the first point, DL is now 2 points, but then you dont get to the next point until you reach DR, and another once you get to to UR (think of the microswitches on the stick) so in order to get 8 inputs by spinning you need 1 and a half full rotations of the stick.
compare that to doing diagonals opposite from each other , DL is 2 switches (down and left) UR is the other two, so thats four points you have hit already in only 2 motions. doing diagonals is a super quick way to rack up the points to shake out of stun. you should really try it that way.
It really depends on this games mechanics. Does anyone know for certain if this game is counting the four directions? Someone needs to ask Mike, haha.
My Guide is 98% complete (8.5k words). Hopefully it’s good. I need to finish these practice combos, and then polish things up (and fix some of the remnants of the old version). Where should I post it?
Make a thread for it?
Okay. I guess. Now I need a name for it, don’t I?
Thanks for writing a guide, I can’t wait to see it when it’s done! I played a few matches against you last night with my Filia/Cerebella team, but I only picked up Cerebella last week so I had no idea what to do with her once Filia was dead
