ah, so after the first time trying to learn this game in my own house I went 5-60 in ranked online. awwwww haha. I guess it would help if I wasn’t trying my first character as seth :[

Ah, I’d be up for some BB, I’m pretty bad at that too though.

I like that haha, that’s pretty good lol. Kind of like that KTX Shiet, they should be a TEAM lol.

btw I like how everyone is online right now when it’s almost 1 in the morning lol

Lol just remember if I see you try to izuna I got that TAP charged

Idk honestly I just got SFIV hype after the iPhone, forum posting and Hakan

What i’m saying is that it’s not dependant on ranbats, running a ranbat every 2 weeks or so, at a certain point some people can’t catch up, as with what I’m saying as we meet up about every couple of days, it makes it easier to catch up and keep the standings running, so it prevents people from getting shut out.

and when I see you got a TAP charged, I got a cr. jab waiting for you.

Matt I gotcha, Team CoWBELL!

Sorry Steve and Matt, that chainsaw seems a little threatening lol.

I like Team C.U.T.E. xP
although, I don’t know if my presence is worthy of even stepping foot with a team like that.

Which is why my blanka does not belong in this environment lol

Pat is up for that.

Steve u should change ur name to team PANDA. Which stands for punk ass nigga die already. If u don’t me and the nappy headed hero will. Panda has a nice ring to it anywho.

dude i fkn loves pandas!

I agree!! Team Panda Go!

I agree… not everyone works… which is why I first said $1, but the main reason behind the entry fee it to encourage participation with the anticipation of an award at the close of the season. Playing with pressure does help your game, no matter how much you wager, however I’m not so sure how bad you want to win .25 or how bad you don’t want to lose .25 I’d take losing $5 a lot more serious as opposed to a quarter. That’s a 2x Chicken sandwiches, 2x apple pies, small fries, and maybe a small drink!

Damn you, Demarcus! It if wasn’t for my babel software, I wouldn’t be able to translate that page. Good shit, but that’s an old system that they don’t use anymore… 3S, I haven’t seen it used for SFIV or later fighting games.

The problem with that system is the negative points… people in the negative will be turned away from participating more if they feel their skill level isn’t on par to get from under that negative score. Round robin will take up a lot more time to run and having people do make up matches seems non consistent. 1) make up matches only works with the round robin system 2) if the brackets that is created with all the players involved are near 20, that’s a lot of fucking games they have to play to catch, not to mention the time to get them done and report them at which by that time, we would probably be in the middle of running another one! 3) everyone doesn’t have the same schedule, and if people have to wait for them to become available it will prolong their ranking status. (ex: Chris and Sean are 4 days on/off, so for them, you’d have to wait until they become available, but after work, they have personal life errands to run, get some sleep and etc…)

Online is a huge problem Lack of connection integrity and online integrity. Ex: if player A is losing to player B, they can simply unplug/rage quit and say it was their internet connection (not saying anyone would do that) and you don’t have that one on one physical interaction. Hell… I can have Rudy over one night and have him play for me online and people would assume I’d had a good night online on my matches (not saying anyone would do anything like that either) but those are the problems with the online match makeups.

I’m hitting up the spreadsheet now and playing with numbers… I’m also currently converting the last ranbat system into excel as a beta to see how easier I can adjust the points and such.

In order for this to take place, I’ll need a list of every active player. So I’m going to make another post after this as a hold spot for the names. While going through the front page, I’ll go down the list and add who are the regulars, then will add people I have seen maybe once or twice. That way, if I missed anyone, I can be corrected and adjust the list. Following that, I’ll use that list to create a new overall bracket/template on excel.

The point for scheduling things is for people to show up for them. If they miss it, they knew ahead of time to make adjustments and plead their case or whatever. Think of Lawrence… when was the last time he showed up for anything? Been a while because he’s been hitting those books and working hard. So to say it wouldn’t be fair is not relevant as some people simply do not have that sort of time to make up tournaments or matches. Gootecks, Justin, Arturo, and other well known players do not make it to every ranbat or major tourney themselves. Well… maybe Gootecks because his life is SFIV right now, lol. [I <3 U Ryan! -no homo-] but its true.

Let me know if any adjustments are needed

Just looking over that link again, and its a collaboration of different stores running that system and with different stages. Gain point for a win, lose a point for a lost, and with each stage or whatever your grade can be upgraded or you can get demoted. Sort of like Tekken’s… you start off 1st Dan and etc… <it gets complicated and I don’t know anyone here that are active in any sort of martial arts… its been years for me, so I haven’t the fucking foggiest so don’t ask me.

Remember… you have to imply K.I.S.S. (keep it simply stupid or keep it simple…stupid) However, like Steve suggested, we can get together and come up with something and test it out. If it works, maybe we can advertise it and have another community try it out and see how well it takes and get some outside feedback.

Your Sakura’s a beast, I had serious trouble keeping up. Good games.

Okay… after compiling all the data taken from challonge.com and points issued from last seasons ranbat, I have been able to throw together an excel beta of what we could possibly be using next season. Nothing fancy… and honestly, nothing new at all. I just wanted to play around with the worksheet idea and see how it fared out. Taking Demarcus’ suggestion are the win/loss percentages, that was included based on actual matches played.

You may see some players had a higher seeding, but it was not based on the % of matches won, but how the ranbat ran, double elimination format, byes, forfeits, and etc… Seeing what the matches played and win/loss % IS NOT a true reflection of a players consistency. Some peopled ended up lpaying more matches than others due to the double elimination format. With that said, it is obvious that someone who gets knocked into losers will end up playing more games, trying to come back and win the tourney like Ray and Steve has done before in the past (…and yes, you guessed it. Usually after throwing a few people threw 7" thick walls and obtaining that ‘flashing screen’)

I’ve stayed up throwing this together (not entirely working on this) and with excel’s formula system, makes it a lot of work to get a total chart done unless you break it down by worksheets and then merging them… Why do all that work, when you can use access? Plus with access, you can customize your template and even include graphics and such to make it look professional looking (insert logo here)… but all in due time. I’ll be getting with my fellow nerds and come up with a system that is accessible, fair, and accurate.

So without further ado… the previous ranbat tables in excel with win/loss percentages (incomplete)

You’ll need to unzip the file…

alot of good points and highlights about tracking the stats and i love what you guys are mentioning about the ranbats.

my 45 cents…

i agree with the $1 to $5 dollar entry. i’m not rich uncle penny bags or nothing, but i agree that winning money is a nice pressure to put on folks, and losing some money ramps up tension during matches, which is always good amongst friends. i think .50 to $1 ends up being more “meh” and we might as well play just for fun. Like it was mentioned earlier, people spend more money on apple pies and cokes. not a big deal. definately don’t want to scare folks off with a high fee or turn SFIV into a gambling den (i love side bets though, cuz i play better with that $2 dollar pressure, LOL) so i’m sure a happy medium can be met.

Join Team Flashy Screen and i may even sponsor ur entry fee, hahaha, with zangief tax applied of course.

Second thing is the spreadsheets and tracking matches is a good, great idea. as well as matching up against folks you have problems with. it’s funny how the people i dominate (protecting the names) easily defeat the players i get my ass handed to regularly. i enjoy losing as much as winning, although that’s rhetorical cuz everyone fears the Red Cyclone :P.

i am definately hosting tonight and i won’t use Zangief if you don’t want me to LOL. i hope to be ready as early as maybe 6pm or 7pm. the food and drinks should be there and any requests, just give me a call. i have multiple setups, but Steve made a good point. if there’s a good turn out, casual matches can slow up the tournament play. the only fix i see for that is once the eliminations start, every setup is tournament only and you could even run two brackets.

Awesome, Team Cute would like to attend
Also the earlier the hosting the better for us young ones
And also thank you for hosting Mr. T

nice nice, someone bring BB and GG for fun~~
