I have the QanbaQ4AF fightstick cost about $150…and my cats chewed up the cable in a couple of spots. The wires were showing a little a bit but it still works fine. Wrapped some tape around the areas.
But my question is if it were to not work anymore because of something like this is there a way to replace the cable yourself without being an electronic engineer? Its a USB cable and I have little knowledge when it comes to electronics and wiring.
USB is 4 wires. You open up the case, desolder the existing cable, resolder in a new cable, and you’re done.
While I conveniently also happen to have a degree in electronic/computer engineering, you don’t need it to be able to replace a USB cable. You just need to know how to solder, or know someone who does.
It’s similar in concept. With soldering, you have the heat the elements first before adding the solder. That way the solder flows and penetrates the material much better.
You can find replacement cables anywhere. Amazon has them for like <$10. If you’re REALLY trying to save money, you can simply cut off the points where your cats chewed, and just re-attach the same cable back together in several different spots. It’ll be messy and look ugly as hell, but it gets the job done.
Keep in mind that often times on pre-built sticks, there’ll be this hot glue stuff on the PCB where the wires are attached. You’ll need a heat gun, hair dryer, or something, to sufficiently melt that glue back down into a liquid so that you can remove it. Very annoying to deal with.
I think there is a pet safe product that discourage pets from chewing stuff
I forgot what its called but it taste like sour apple
I also found out that double sided tape if used right can discourage cats from clawing furniture,
place the tape along the edges you do not want your pets on as pets do not like the feel of the tap on their paws, for this to work you have to provide an alternative thing to scratch, like a scratching post.
Lol thanx for the help. They also chewed up my $70 Universal Tritton Kunai headset. And now am only able to hear through the left speaker. So I ended up breaking the right speaker off…so now its kinda like the cheap $15 Xbox headset…lol.
