Capcom Fighting Jam

exciting yet disappointing. i’ll wait before i judge. i’m hoping there will be secret charaters from different games than the one’s mentioned. it’d be nice.

also, i want to say that the backgrounds look excellent. 2d hand drawn. excellent. a lot of things going on. thats what i like. fuck all that lets fight on a mountain on a secluded island in the middle of nowhere.

I swear I know I’m asking for too much but it would be nice to see people use common sense when they post instead of just randomly posting what comes to their mind without any logic going past 5 minutes in front of their face. But then again this is shoryuken.com.

And it’s big news with hundreds of people reacting at it at the same time. What can you expect?

Yeah, more thought behind posts is recommended, but in the case of a topic like this, you get flooded either way…

capcom announces CAPCOM FIGHTING JAM FOR XBOX

-Popular Characters From Five Classic Capcom Fighting Games Collide-

E3, LOS ANGELES May 12, 2004- Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced the ultimate 2D brawler with Capcom Fighting Jam (working title) for the Xbox video game system from Microsoft. As the driving force behind the 2D fighting genre, Capcom’s library includes a huge line up of fighting games, including the award-winning Street Fighter series which has sold more than 27 million units to date. The titles have popularized 2D fighting and have produced a world famous line-up of characters. Capcom has brought together popular characters from five classic titles in the Street Fighter and other Capcom series, for intense two-on-two player battles. Capcom Fighting Jam will also allow players to put their skills to the test in cross continent match ups via the Xbox Live online gaming service. Capcom plans to release Capcom Fighting Jam throughout North America in winter 2004.

Capcom Fighting Jam offers a diverse cast of players as well as additional hidden characters from each of the following titles: Street Fighter II, Darkstalkers, Street Fighter III, Red Earth and Street Fighter Alpha. Each character maintains their unique fighting style from their respective title, so players must strategically use each one’s combat system to defeat that of their opponent as they square off in battle. With two-on-two action, gamers can mix and match their team from any of the different titles. The character change system allows players to choose a combatant for each round of the battle. Pitting the right competitor against the opponent based on the strengths of the fighting systems will be the key to victory.

“Capcom’s fighting games have earned world wide respect and have elevated the industry standard to new heights over the years,” said Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom USA. “With an arsenal of established characters, time-honored control schemes and versatile options, Capcom Fighting Jam is a must have for any fighter fan.”

Capcom Fighting Jam includes the following features:
Characters from 5 classic Capcom titles:
Street Fighter II - Ryu, Guile
Darkstalkers - Demitri, Felicia

XBOX LIVE!!!

Thanks. Yeah, I went to a-cho last week for some #R. Didn’t do very well of course, but I didn’t completely die so I guess I can be happy about that. Fighting against Japanese May’s is a lot like slamming your head repeatedly into a brick wall, only far less fun. I think I can go back this weekend for more punishment.

On CFJ: Capcom kind of cheezed out on the character roster. I’m half happy and half disappointed with what I’ve heard so far.

Darkstalkers: THANK GOD NO MORRIGAN! I like her, but she’s been pretty much the only character from that game used consistantly. While it would have been nice to give the nod to two of the other highly disregarded characters, like Jon Talbain or Hsien-Ko even, I have no complaints about Demitri and Felicia.

SFA: Guy is cool. He hasn’t gotten any love since Alpha, and I felt he should have been in CvS2 instead of Maki. Sakura…bleh. She’s been in almost everything since her debut in A2. Her spot could have been better used for someone else, like Rose, a completely cool character who has gotten no love. Even Karin or Gen would have been good too.

SF2: I guess a shoto is standard, and Ryu is the default choice. No real comment here. Although Guile took a LONG vacation after ST, we’ve seen him a lot lately. And we’ve had Charlie, who is similar after all. I would have rather seen this spot filled by someone else…preferably one of the New Challengers, as outside of Cammy they haven’t gotten any love at all. My personal choice would be Fei Long.

SF3: Real cop-out here. They cheated - Chun-Li is SF2! Even though they’re using her 3S incarnation, it doesn’t really change the fact that its Chunners. And Yun is okay, but he was in CvS2 and I think we’ve seen enough of him in 3S to last a lifetime. I would have liked to seen some of the other 3S cast…Elena, Dudley, Remy, Ibuki…

But oh well. Like I said before, the most important thing is that it’s a good fighter. And I’m not going to freak out about the roster too much. I don’t get why people want more characters when the games that have 25+ characters now only end up seeing a handful of them actually get used.

I’l glad the roster is small, hopefully it’ll be nice and balanced

wow, another SF on xbox live? Too cool, excited enough about 3s as it is

Hahahahhaha

Look at the screens at the bottom

Just saw the video, looks mad cool. Looks like CC’s return in some fashion, Chun can still tack on Jump fierces after super, which figures. At least VS characters also retain their ES’s, free damage on knockdown! More than 20 characters is good, though my money is on Warzard chars with no balance.

What do you have to do to get a press account?

No press account needed, at least not for this vid.

EDIT: appears us cheap bastards can only stream, no biggie though.

A hero you are. Thank you

im not liking this small cast thing, there less than 20 chars. i hope theyd add some more because even after playing cvs2 i want different people to play with. oh ya and some NEW characters wouldnt be a bad idea either, filler game sounds like the right tag for this game

thats all im saying considering its only 30% done or w/e

Doesn’t that shitty gamespot downloader = spyware?

Think I’ll wait for a mirror

Thank you and your welcome.

Other guy, I just have one song for you:

STREAM IT! STREAM IT!!!

Just saw the trailer…it’d be nice if I could clearly see everything but from what I can tell they’re pretty far in the process of making the game (eats crow for earlier posts). It does look a little fake , but all NAOMI 2D Capcom games do look at CVS2, and DC Third Strike. Gameplay is the huger issue at hand from what I can tell, theres not much to gather in terms of gameplay until a beta test but like all games that we’re naive about, it looks promising. I just hope Guy is decent in this game. Anyways thats my rant.

I’m excited for this game. A new Capcom fighter finally with Guy! That’s awesome to say the least.

If they are reusing sprites, then they damn well better have 50+ characters in it.

If it’s less than 20 characters, Capcom had damn well better redraw everyone.

Personally, I’m not too upset about the graphics.
3S looks like pixelated crap in stills – animation is where it’s at.

Am I the only one who would like to see this game use the Marvel vs. engine? It’s a great engine just screaming for a BALANCED fighter.

And yeah, the roster needs some growth (though I’ll take a small balanced cast over a large one that’s all over the map any day).

Some characters that need lovin’:
Rose, Fei Long, Gallon (J. Talbain), Aulbath (Rikuo), Alex (for heaven’s sake!), Necro (Dhalsim x 10), and what about some other capcom non-fighting game characters like Dante or Samanosuke (either one would rock my world!)

Oh, and if Ken’s not in it, I’m gonna cry.

~Goodguy

Well son, take the tough titty, he’s in the background in one of the pics.

Yeah, I wondered why all my attempts to access HerV were effective as the San Jose Sharks’ defense right now.

EDIT: My guess is that it’s purposely down so that nobody makes hundreds of theads about every new game that gets revealed at E3. Watch, HerV will be back up the day after E3 ends…

This game looks cool, although the fact that it’s in 2D to begin with means it probably won’t win many new fans to fighting games, much appeal to a large mainstream fanbase…And that’s Shinkiro’s art for the characters? I couldn’t tell.
