I did… though I never read credits and since I was a little junior high student then, the people at CTF didn’t talk to me much, they just got pissed if I beat them, on those rare occassions.
I disagree with you all. I am an old school fighting game player, starting with SF2 in the arcades, and “The bells and Whistles” don’t make the games worse, just different and by judging sales, much better. I like the SF4 series much better than the SF2 series. I still like SF2 and play it often, but prefer SF4. Your chess analogy falls flat. Chess has changed so much since it’s invention, castling and en passant were latter additions, and the Queen could only move like the bishop but only one square at a time.
I disagree with this just because I don’t like the idea of having rewards for players doing badly.
I don’t like SF4 though because it’s molasses.
Signed.I like it that some supers change the flow of the match, but the sheer damage and how many options some of them remove is more noticeable than it should, IMHO.
I guess so, Zangief beats Ken in most versions, I believe. WW is granted, and ST Gief also wins. HDR, poor Ken.
Edit:
I make this analogy with no intention of being disrespectful, in a sincere hope that you will understand that such argumentation is fallacious and falls as a card castle against logic reason. As I have said in other threads: you can like lesser art and entertainment all you want, but do not try and argument that it somehow has more value than the classics. It is not a shame to enjoy, e.g., the Thor movie; to say it is better than Unforgiven, it is.
I wish they’d go back to SF2 and branch out in a different direction. I’d like to see fewer meters and gauges, and deeper basic gameplay.
Of course, VF and Tekken already has that covered pretty well, but it’s just not the same in three dimensions.
If you dont like the features in the new games why don’t you just continue playing the old ones?
FYI: this is a resurected thread from 2004.
It was complaining about CvS2 having too many extras.
SF4 doesn’t have any of the “extras” that were what caused this thread.
Really wish more people read the start of the thread instead of just posting based on the thread title. Compared to games like CvS2 and Alpha 3, the IV series is pretty pared down in terms of “extras.”
Yep, this.
It’s exactly why I revived this thread when I did…
Back in 2k4, people complained the engines were getting too complex, but NOW, those same people are complaining that they’re getting too toned down. SF4 doesn’t have that complex “fancy extra” engine that games like CvS2 and Alpha 3 had.
IV isn’t even that pared down. In terms of extras, it’s somewhere close to what the SFIII series had.
Also, with SFxT, we’re getting something that’s close to what A2 had in terms of extras (unless it’s nerfed, Cross Assault on knockdown might be the new Valle CC).
I saw the thread title then had to check the date because no one is saying Capcom games has too many extras today lol
Lol! I actually have some scrubs at Unity complaining about all the additions to SFxTekken - magic series chains, juggles and Cross Assault.
I hope that it all meshes well in the end product because I don’t want to hear them talk about how they were right to complain so early. I have faith in Capcom pulling this off.
Tekken has the tradition of magic series, with different properties on different moves, such as some certain attack in the series hitting as an overhead, and some other as a low attack. It is just unavoidable. SF is so messed up and the released preview has already made it clear this will not be a OG-like game, which at least is better than Ono crapping through his mouth, saying SF4 was like ST, even though every released piece of information showed otherwise.
Hopefully. But everything is looking good so far with guys like Ross and Valle genuinely hype about the game.
Tekken isn’t magic series, at least not in the traditional sense of attacks cancelling into attacks of the same or higher strength. What Tekken has is traditional 3d fighter canned strings.
Why complain about Capcom games when you can always go play fighters not made by Capcom?
Lack of competition, mostly.
Besides, there’s no reason not to play both old and new games, since they’re all fun.
It just gets a little boring when every game in the genre is basically SF2 + subsystem gimmicks.
