Its official: the spinknuckle is the worst move in the game. It has ZERO purpose. I was facing Damdai’s Ken and came close to beating him almost every time (I’d take 1/2 rounds and come close in the 2nd), but couldn’t win. I was good at stopping his SRK trap but he’d use the FB’s when he was threatened. So, here are the 3 situations:
I knuckle, he sweeps.
I walk forward and crouch-block constantly, except the speed of his FB allows him to recover and blocking pushes me too far back. Sometimes I’ll also miss a block and get hit.
I jump, he sweeps
I’ve conluded that Cammy’s only good way of getting in against pro players is to walk forward and take chip damage. Hooligan is too risky and I’ll often miss it by inches. Using this strategy, do I have to pretty much walk forward until they’re in a corner?
I don’t give a shit if Sirlin beats every Honda in the world, Cammy is definitely the worst in the game. I guess I’m just pissed because that knuckle SERIOUSLY needs a buff.
^ Yeah, I can tell. He whooped me good, but its eating me inside because I came soooooooooo close mostly every time. I had no way of getting around the FB’s, its just impossible.
I’d just like to comment that those 4 words make me literally wanna puke. LOL I consider myself to be a reasonably good street fighter - even with the worst character in the game [poor cammy]… but damn, does she have any solid moves against Honda now?? Cuz even with her ‘new skillset’ i still have major problems with this match! Any tips/tricks??
Funny you should mention that, Milo. I’ve actually tried to replace Cammy on numerous occasions, but I find that I just cannot use anyone else. The farthest I’ve gotten has been with Vega, but I am not able to pull off his moves consistently due to the shitty d-pad so I don’t see myself getting far. I could probably use Ken/Ryu effectively after some time, but I find that they are too common so I’m avoiding them. And yes, Damdai is a bloody great player.
EDIT: Don’t get me wrong, I love using Cammy. I just complain alot sometimes because…I can. I’m just mad that it seems like Capcom set out to make her completely crappy, and it annoys me when one of her special moves (knuckle) really has no purpose in competitive play. Being a Cammy user I just wish she’d be solid for once. And it doesn’t help that Sirlin believes she is mid-tier on his site, so I go a bit ape-shit. Just ignore my whining, I’m just blowing off steam.
I’ve played Tchesae’s DeeJay enough (he’s on my friends list) to learn the matchup quite well. Backfist is useful if you hit him with the end of it. You do it too deep and he can easily counter with a number of moves. Perhaps the key to using the Backfist overall is to time it so you are in a hitting state asap after you dodge through the projectile. This may require some psychic ability (which you’ll get over due time).
Spinning backfist can make for a good surprise reversal against shotos when you’re expecting the fireball to push you back, just make sure you use the appropriate one depending on your distance or you’ll get that nice punch to the face, or kick to your knee for your trouble.
Yeah… Purple fantastic… of course you could always where the blue “I’m here to kick your ass British style” outfit… But that’s my color so… you’re down two… classic green is nice and its in season! LOL
She’s definitely the most work-intensive character in the game, vanilla ST and HDR. Pseudo-masochists only need apply.
I don’t say that just to prop myself up. I mean, I play Chun-Li and, occasionally, a slightly scrubby Honda – two of the best characters in the game, (well, the jury on Chun-Sirlin is still out), in terms of their work:reward ratio.
A strong turtler will rape Cammy. That is far and away her biggest weakness, for obvious reasons. Often, I will get way ahead against an offensive Ken or Dee Jay, then they will turtle up and I will barely win the match or even lose it. Players with good reflexes and respectable knowledge of spacing and counterattacks are extremely difficult to beat using Cammy.
I b!tch a lot about highly defensive players, but the fact is, if you play Cammy well enough, you won’t leave the other guy any other options (with the probable exception of Boxer, thanks to his recovery-free dashes, and the flying circus monkeys, Claw and Dictator). Especially in Sirlin’s version of this game, her surprise attack and projectile dodging capabilities are better than those of most characters. If you’re fighting a good player and he’s doing a good amount of turtling, you know that you’re doing something right.
I’d sandbag more with Cammy if I could, but I get too bored and find myself going Wolverine on my opponent when I should be doing more head fakes.
P.S. Norieaga: Don’t give up on the backfist. It is definitely one of my favorite moves. Use the jab version, if that’s the only version that’s absolutely safe in a given situation; jacking up the opponent’s spacing is of extreme importance if he’s turtling up. And, like I always say, use it to close the distance on a felled opponent. Timed properly (not hard at all), it has to be reversed on wake-up, or Cammy will be right next to her opponent with frame advantage, so she can go directly into the follow-up of her choice if the other guy blocks. In fact, if your opponent has less than three pixels of health remaining, he has to reverse the backfist or lose the round (since you can can block-chip two pixels with the backfist, then win the match with a follow-up :d::mk: -> drill).
