Can someone please give me advice on how to use meaty setups on Cammy on her wake up? It seems like no matter what I do, whether it be st.HK meaty, cr. MK meaty, st. MP meaty, I get stuffed by her wake up 3F jab EVERY TIME. Maybe I’m just mistiming my meaties… I know Psycho Axe is a reliable meaty against her on wake up but I don’t want to over abuse it and get too predictable with it. Do you guys have any reliable meaty setups against her that won’t lose to her wake up 3F jabs?
Its just a matter of knowing of knowing what sets up meaty pressure and a matter of timing.
Back throw, Ex.Knee Press (delay 1 frame), EX. Head Press all set up Pyscho Axe.
Either throw into corner sets up meaty pressure.
V-Reversal sets up meaty pressure (dash S.HK covers normal recovery, dash Axe covers back recovery.
Any time you knock them down with Pyscho Inferno, you can dash up and get meaty pressure.
VT. Ex Knee Press is +3 on block, follow up with C.MP will stuff Cammy’s 3F jab.
VT. Head Press is between +1 on +3 on block so use S.LK as a follow up, at worst you will trade. On hit it gives you a meaty set up.
VT. Ex Head Press hit followed by Pyscho Axe leaves you at least +2 so if you use a light move after the Axe you should stuff Cammy’s 3F Jab.
On block EX DR +13, V. DR +5, VEX. DR +13. So after EX. DR you can use Axe to crush counter any normal or dash she does. With VT DR you can use S.MP to beat all her normals.
If you land an anti air C.HP you can go for a meaty Axe which if you time it right can be more than +1 on block, or you can move forward and try to bait a reversal.
C.HK sweep is risky as hell but on hit gives you the knockdown which leads to meaty pressure. On counter hit you get to dash several times for corner carry.
So more notes on the Cammy match up.
When Cammy has popped V-Trigger don’t neutral jump or jump backwards, she can easily tag them with VT Spiral Arrow.
Likewise if Cammy has critical art stocked she punish jumps of all directions as well. Although if your sneaky and have critical art stocked your self you could bait her Critical Art and then cancel into you own in mid air.
Due to Cammy’s excellent walk speed and good range on her cancelable C.MK, I do not recommend using Psycho Axe or LK.Knee Press in the neutral game if Cammy is playing a whiff punish orientated game. Its very easy to over commit with this moves, and allow Cammy the whiff punish and worse give her momentum.
Cammy’s V-Reversal as already mentioned is slow at 17 frame and punishable at -8 on block.
This means Cammy’s can not V-Reversal medium strength normal’s from Bison, but it also not quick enough to punish his S.HK.
For the most part Cammy players won’t use V-Reversal mid screen but save for when they are cornered.
S.HP, Psycho Axe and everyone of Bison’s special moves are caught by her V-Reversal, so do not use these moves when she cornered.
While her V-Reversal is -8 on block, S.MP to C.MP will not combo on her due to the range V-Reversal leaves her at. Without V-Trigger the best punish you can do is a C.MP cancel.
On wake up Cammy’s sometimes like to gamble on Cannon Spike xx Critical Art and if its blocked they fly over to the other side of the screen.
Often this goes unpunished. On blocking the Cannon Spike and seeing the Critical Art screen freeze Bison can safely mash back dash and catch up with Cammy for an easy punish. You can combo off S.HK in this situation.
Cammy’s V-Trigger cancels are at worst 0 on block. Since Cammy has a 3 frame normal this effective gives her frame advantage if she cancels into V-Trigger at point blank range. Don’t be caught pressing buttons. Her V-Trigger activation is too fast to V-Reversal so don’t bother trying.
