Man this is getting discouraging. I haven’t faced one other Cammy in ranked all night. It’s just a plethora of Karin, Dhalsim, Bison, Birdie, with a sprinkling of R. Mika, and Necalli. Are people really giving up on her?

Just because you don’t see a character online doesn’t mean they are bad
Probably people figuring out how honest she is and going to someone else

Why should you play Cammy?
There’re so many other chars that have gimmiks and tricks to avoid the neutral.
Cammy is a honest character and has to work for her Wins.
She relies more on fundamentals than Rose did in IV. No backdashing is no fundamental, I mean everything else.

I played a Cammy mirror the other night and, sweet lord, that was a war of attrition. I think the Cammy mirror is my least favorite match up. Bring on the Ryus, Kens and Karins, please.

I actually love Cammy mirror.
Cammy is the most honest char in the game, no funny stuff, just footsies and frame traps.
The only problem with this matchup is the one that the game itself has: The lack of whiff punishes. Aside from a crHP you can’t really whiff punishing anything on reaction. So all the time what you’re doing is an attempt at guess punish heh. But still, its kinda fun.

I’m not saying she is bad just sad to see so many changed to someone like Karin for easier wins.

I like Karin. But, Cammy is the realist.

enjoy fighting Bison when people get better lol

These are great punishes, but what player worth their salt would just hooligan at you from full screen?

That’s not the point.

That’s just Bison putting one of his dolls back in check.

My friend used that shit on wake up versus Chun’s overhead while he had no health and beat me. It’s basically a counter, and it’s bullshit.

This Video just shows that you shouldn’t use the most obivous ways in.
Just as sidenote her Hooligan throw beats both the st.hk and the V-Skill for free.

Hi friends! I’m new to the forum, but have been a Cammy fan since using her religiously on Super Street Fighter II for the Sega Genesis. I have Super Street Fighter IV for the PS3, but have only rented SF5 for the PS4 for about a few weeks on Gamefly. I like that they’ve kept her basic moves; after only a matter of days I’ve won quite a handful of online matches and brought the character level up.

Careful when trying to combo after VT Spiral Arrow in the corner. Cammy does *not *switch sides.

Another Street Fighter, another bunch of years with Cammy. I’ve been loving this iteration of her so far. She’s just so fast and although it did take a bit to get used to, she’s still the overwhelming force she has always been. Up to 4600 LP with her (I know netplay doesn’t mean much, but my job hasn’t allowed me to go to locals, so it’s all I got!) Hope everyone else is having a blast with the character.

ugh I’ve just been so frustrated with Cammy lately. I can’t think of a good reason to play her over Chun besides having a meterless DP, which isn’t as big a deal as it would be in other games because of how badly you get punished for one bad decision with it.

Besides that, I feel that Chun has better health/stun, walk/dashes, air normals, ground normals, air legs > divekick, space control with fireball, chip damage potential, more useful v-skill (those corner crossup > land in front setups are insane), a safe EX move that can’t get easily stuffed the way hooligan or divekick can, an overhead, an air throw (idk why Cammy wouldn’t at least get that move back), pressure after throws, crush counters, even her normal AAs are super consistent which is usually one of her weaknesses. And not even a really floaty jump, only 2 frames more than Cammy. But I just have a playstyle that naturally makes Cammy a better fit for me, something about the button timing just throws me off with Chun.

I’ve tried watching replays to see what people are doing to make Cammy work, and all I ever see is people respecting her shenanigans in ways that my higher-ranked opponents never do. Maybe once the salt finally drains from my system I’ll see things differently, but in SF4 I never had this kind of problem. Even when I played the best of the best, I felt like I had a legit chance and I could easily make sense of any situation and control my spacing well, but not in 5

I think if you watch most high level Cammys, you will see that they don’t do shenanigans very often. From Kazunoko to KBrad to Cobelcog. The only one that seems to play this shenanigan-esque Cammy is Poongko. Most better SFV Cammys are winning in the neutral game (whiff punishes, spacing pokes, buffered pokes, conditioning, reactions to fireballs, etc). They aren’t winning with V-Skill and Hooligan.

Then once they get in, it’s frame traps and pressure. IMO, Cammy is the Cody of SFV, just with a much better neutral game. Unfortunately for SFIV Cody, Cody got absolutely outclassed by characters with a better footsie game or a great pressure/mix-up game. Cammy doesn’t suffer from the latter, but the former remains true. Cammy is going to have trouble against/do poorly against/have to work hard against characters who can contest her neutral game (Chun, Nash, Karin, etc).

We are having a different experience though I think. I beat players I’m better than and lose to players who are better than me. It feels very cut and dry, and I love that. I don’t have that feeling when I do lose that it’s the character or I got “scrubbed out” or the character I fought is ridiculous. If we are playing a serious set and I lose, I feel like I lost because he or she was better. I either got out neutral’d, went for a bad AA, my spacing was bad, etc.

All I can say is, if you aren’t enjoying playing her, try another character. You might surprise yourself. I found myself getting frustrated with Necalli during Beta 3, and knew I wasn’t sticking with him as a main. I stumbled upon Cammy, and immediately knew I could play this character for years. I haven’t even explored characters I want to learn because I am enjoying Cammy. One of these days I need to revisit Gief, take a look at Nash, maybe try out Karin. But right now, without a slew of bad matches (I think Bison, Chun, Nash and possibly Birdie or Karin edge her out, none of which are 4/6 out of her favor IMO, just slight 4.5/5.5), I am happy with her.

Only thing I think Cammy needs is an overhead or better hitstun on j. LK.

Yea, Cammy is the definition of “work” in this game. You put in so much more effort than ever before, but it’s worth it.

Thats also why people start to say Cammy isn’t good for beginners, since they would have to work a lot.
I don’t see the problem, why should it be good to teach beginners gimmiks over fundamentals?
Cammy is extremly fundamental and neutral focused in SFV.
No Gimmiks no Shenanigans.
She can mix up, cross up, turtle up, pressure, bait, move, space, zone, run away, and bake a cake.
Practice to use your Tools over and over again.
-Learn to zone with your normals
-Learn to bait people out
-Learn to abuse your pressure
-Learn to mix up
-Learn the TKCS if you want
-You have one of the best walkspeeds in the game
-You have the best anti-airing of the entire cast
-You have meterless fireball counters
-V-Skill and M Hooligan work perfect as projectile counters.
-Her CA makes it extremly risky to make one wrong move, unless the opponent want to eat 330 damage.

I see a lot people complain that Cammys Throw doesn’t give her enough advantage and the enemy has never a reason to tech.
Wrong.
Cammys Throw throws them a good amount of space closer into the corner and deals damage, she has excellent normals, reseting the Neutral is not that bad of a option.
If people don’t want to eat the whole time damage and don’t want to get cornerd, they will start to tech.
8x Throw = dead, if they never tech throw them over and over again, they will start to tech and if not, you have a free damage source.

Divekicks work to throw anti-airs off.
Short your jump with a Divekick can make Dp’s whiff, you get a free punish.
You can delay your jumping timing with it, what means you can make AA’s whiff and whiffpunish them.

If you come from SFIV, then is Cammy a lot different.
If you come from ST,Alpha or CVS, she is much more similar.

Cammy in SFIV relied on Vortex and Divekicks to keep pressure up and open her opponent.
Cammy in SFV relies, like her old versions, on the neutral.Buttons,Damage and the simple Mixups.
