My favourite part is how the whole world is completely interconnected until you reach Anor Londo. Having a consistent world with that kind of scope is amazing.
I’d love to know the process for the level design because they really set a new standard.
I’m guessing the modeled a lot of the castles, etc after real life locales.

I was going to recommend the claymore too, it’s a very solid weapon that’ll get you through the game. Drake sword is incredibly good early game but later its garbage since it doesn’t scale, so good choice on the switch
My favorite build was the defender’s greatsword faith build, but i think it got nerfed to shit since i played it last.
yup. I’m starting to really “get” the game (I eat black knights for breakfast now) at SL27. I like how the game gives you 0 idea of where to go or what to do other than the extremely vague “ring the two bells”
at first I thought I would try the graveyard route again since I was stronger, but nope
then I found the darkroot…then I found the LOWER entrance to darkroot(with the icicle guys) and yeah this game is ridiculously sick as fuck
I should have listened when falken told me this was one of the best games he’s ever played

in the hour or two I played last night I had 2 “HOLY SHIT!!!” moments when I was walking around, went through a door, up a flight of stairs and opened up a shortcut to various starting areas that were locked at the start
completely blew my mind. and it happened twice!
I didn’t know there was the area with the sorcerer dude before the valley of the drakes until I remembered about the black knight I just left alone in the undead burg and went back to kill him for funsies
You’ve got to engage people. Period. There’s already a Calgary Street Fighter group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/108744933411/ I think Foger is still the admin of that one. The FGCC page on Facebook has almost 300 likes and according to their page are done with meet ups for the semester. You’ve got to reach out and get people active, then keep putting in sweat.
What is harder than getting people out? Keeping them out. Someone has to shoulder the responsibility of being that guy who’s out with a setup every weekend, whether they want to or not. This stuff lives and dies on repetition.

When you first take the elevator from the church right before the darkroot forest and then end up in the fire link shrine just blew my mind. Or the valley of Drakes connecting to New Londo.
The lore in the game is really well thought out as well. There’s not much spelled for you explicitly, but when you read about it, it makes a lot more sense.
Why New Londo is flooded, what happened to Quelag’s sister, etc. I think I’ll play it again once I get through Demon’s souls.
Also, I dunno if anyone else was going, but I will be at Dickens this Sunday with an Xbox and Ps3 setup (assuming they still have that extra monitor).
Would be cool to see some people come out. I’ll be there regardless.

I’m going to be out for the next two weeks. Enjoy free time before it shrivels up and dies in the fall.

what this guy said
I think other dudes are admins of cgysf on facebook. tbh I don’t really check it anymore
one more word of advice I will add to this awesome post is:
you will need to put more in than you get out
if you want to foster a scene(like…really go ham) its like a 2nd job on the nights that you do stuff, and even some days where its not an event night. except you don’t get paid. and ppl run away to smoke when you’re doing brackets(jerks!)
Yeah, a Facebook group is a start, but you need more.
I’d post up flyers at MRU, U of C and SAIT or maybe any game store that will let you.
You have to know your target audience and I would think those are the spots you’re most likely to fond new blood.
You could also try the Smash guys or GG guys. I’m sure some of them would be willing to give it a shot.
Rounding up people is only part of it though. You have to be the rock that keeps them coming. Also, don’t complain too loudly if people don’t show; you’ll probably get the opposite of the desired effect.

I’m gonna agree with you there. He looks like ass. I do give them credit for going with his classic colors though. I kinda wish they had him be white like he was in the late 80s early 90s
