Eh, the mods reacted pretty quickly when the situation was brought to their attention yesterday. I don’t think it’s the mod’s fault that ____ made another account 2 minutes after the other one was banned. But since he’s now hurtling insults* directly at the mod (a great way to get your point across, btw), it’ll probably come to a head again.

i can’t wrap my head around 3d fighters. they feel so … weird. there’s space control and denial and timing in 2d games, but it feels like with 3d stuff everyone sort of fights from the same range, so i’m not really sure where i’m supposed to stand or when to press buttons.

I don’t understand spacing (among pretty much everything else) in Tekken, like Mike said. And the prospect of learning a game that daunting is pretty intimidating. Like, if I was going to teach someone how to play SF4, I’d say to pick Ryu and do nothing but low forward, fireballs, and DPs. Some basic concepts that will get you into the idea of standing at a range where your DP works, executing it under pressure, etc. With Tekken I don’t know what an analogous “beginner” situation like that is.

I also have no idea what a given character’s strengths and weaknesses are, whereas it’s more easy to see in SF where, say, Dhalsim shines. To me Tekken just looks like people standing next to each other for 2 minutes and pressing almost identical looking buttons.

i havent played 3d fighters really since SC1, VF1+2+3. i used to hate games where you had to hold back to block, but now its the other way around and i cant get used to blocking with a button anymore.

i think if i was gonna get back into 3d fighters it would have to be VF5 but i know that game is like a serious kick in the balls for how technical it is, esp compared to the ones i was used to playing.

Pad is suuu much better for 3d fighters IMO.

Just Frame moves are infinitely easier on pad. Seriously. Try doing Kazuya’s EWGF on pad. Comes out every time! And those types of moves are way more prominent in 3D fighters.

I should elaborate on my point above: I think Soul Calibur is “easier” to see where a character shines because of the weapon use. Big hulking guys with axes vs nimble characters with daggers and stuff. Of course it’s still confusing when you don’t know which buttons are advantage and which buttons are risks and stuff, but I think it’s a little easier in that game to see when a character is in trouble vs Tekken, where it feels like everybody is kind of doing the same thing. That’s just my scrubby opinion on 3D fighters, lol.
