I agree, but I don’t recall him saying that he was better at the game. He just said his theory fighter was bit better than most. I would say you need both game experience and theory to play well (a little more experience than theory).
I disagree with having to be better to give good advice. e.g someone gives the advice to replace L,M,H with M,M,H in one of their combos (UMVC3) because L doesn’t do enough damage, and generates the same hit stun, he would still be giving good advice even if he was a worse player.
That Marvel example is kinda…terribad. You don’t have to necessarily be better, but show that you’re good and willing to learn and help others before trying to tell people shit and telling us that we’re a weak community.
Personally, I wouldn’t rate FMA: Brotherhood that high probably wouldn’t make my top 10 list though creating a top 10 list would be extremely difficult for me.
I don’t think you’ll be able to move into Lagann after finishing S1 of Geass.
Also, watch both movies to Gurren Lagann after you finish the tv series. The movies retell the story of the tv series but I actually like how the 2nd movie handles the second half of the series better.
Put Vision of Escaflowne on your list while you’re at it. lol Escaflowne is the best fantasy anime of all time.
He was probably expecting a lot more people to be Jamie’s level and so yeah in that respect it’s fair. He’s pretty decent and I think you guys are just blowing this out of proportion, he’s a cool guy
While we’re really friendly we certainly don’t take criticism well, as is really apparent whenever something like this comes up
I really liked FF12. I liked the setting and the architecture of the cities. I liked that the plot was more political intrigue than teenage emo boy saves the world from evil dude. I liked how HUGE the world was, and how you could always walk into an enemy that was too strong for you if you weren’t careful (way more games need to do this). I liked that there were MANY areas with high-level monsters, not just one. I liked doing all the marks. I liked the battle system… it was like building a well-oiled machine and constantly tweaking it, then walking into a battle and seeing if it worked. If it didn’t work, you would tweak it some more. In the harder battles you would constantly have to tweak mid-battle.
I didn’t like the interface (why can’t I save my most-used gambits for easy switching???). I didn’t like how utterly random some of their design decisions were (the 4 chest Zodiac Spear comes to mind immediately). I didn’t like the Great Crystal.
I also think FF13’s battle system was pretty fun. If you played it just by mashing X, then you definitely didn’t do the harder battles, where careful management of your paradigms was 100% crucial for success. I guess you could get through most of the normal plot by sticking with one strategy (which is a problem with the game design, not the battle design), but if you had the patience to get to the part of the game where you did the marks, you would see that the battle system was pretty neat. Much of the rest of the game was frustrating, though. The characters were on average irritating, the interface was (again) terrible (can’t save often-used paradigms, NOPE… want to grind a few turtles en route to a mark? Spend 5 minutes changing your paradigms around, then 5 minutes changing them back for the mark…), and they forced you to walk way, way too much for no real reason.
I DID like that FF13’s achievements were reasonable. They didn’t ask you to do totally stupid stuff, and all of it was gettable on 1 playthrough without needing a FAQ to avoid missable stuff early. I also quite liked the Gran Pulse main field… that thing is huge and full of hard monsters the first time you get there, so walking around felt like it SHOULD feel when you finally get to this much-anticipated alien world… you’re scared to venture off the beaten path at all! It also looked really nice. They just forced you to do too much walking.
I might look at FF13-2, reviews and time pending. Should probably beat Xenoblade before I do that, though.
I don’t have a problem with anything he said other than “I’m not learning too much”. That’s not a valid complaint, you’d have to be actively avoiding the FG community in this place to not learn anything. Obviously I don’t know the guy and usually I don’t give much of a shit, but there are too many people here who know too much for anyone to come here and not learn something.
Mind you, I’m sure plenty of people are lining up to teach him stuff now… haha.
