Learning curve is a pretty good reason to not learn a game, especially if you don’t have the time or energy to invest in a game that may not be played by many people. Like I said, I understand my mentality isn’t shared by everyone. Aesthetics is another good reason, really. Regardless of how good Arcana Heart is, I know I’ll never be able to get over the aesthetic to enjoy the game. I’m sure Virtua Fighter is a fantastic game for people who like that style of fighting, but it doesn’t really appeal to me, so I won’t be learning it any time soon. Does that make me not a true fan of the genre?

The new generation of gamers got spoiled when they release 10834 games per minute, many of them very good and worth playing, and it’s impossible to play everything, not to mention all the other zillions of avenues for entertainment available to people these days. People get to pick and choose between a wide variety of options, and people will just naturally go towards the path of least resistance, like they do for everything. The “old generation” of gamers was this way, too… it just didn’t show itself because games were fewer and more far between then.
