C.Viper Q&A: Quick questions here please!

props

guess i’m fearing the DP way too much, perhaps it’s value is just not that great as i think it should be.

bait DP with super jump light BKs. if you space it right, they will either get hit by your fire or youll land before them and you can punish. i once baited a ken into doing his ultra that way and punished with my own ultra to win the game

I hate how depending on how clsoe you are though you can’t continue a string after it on hit sometimes, if I try I’ll just get throw out of my follow up move… so now I just try and throw the first time and then mix up throw or hp knuckle/ex seismo.

give Sagat a AirLariat!

I gotta disagree. I feel like full screen you win all the exchanges with sagat, if you get cornered or are about to you can basically sj fk out for free. YOu can also sj in on sagat from mid screen and he can’t do shit most the time. Up close he has s.lk c.lp and s.fk that beat everything, and of course he has the god knee. Up close he is also a threat to completely turn the round in his favor with one dp or c.lk.

Ryu Can close the distance faster and doesn’t have as good of tools as sagat does in close but his walking speed paired with c.mk/s.mk make up for it. It’s much more 50/50 vs Ryu, and he has the jab dp which stops most cross up attempts and gives him an ultra set up plus it makes his close FB game viable. He can air hurricane to stuff her dp, it’s just much more of a disadvantage vs him that sagats slow ass.

hello all of you. I was wondering how much easier all of these techniques like seismic XX seismic are with a stick or a pad. I have a regular xbox controller and it is KILLING me (i can only do the cancel a few times every now and then and ive been in training for a while mode for a while now). I should be getting my fight pad in the mail and plan on getting a stick asap but I’m just curious as to what you guys think.

Street Fighter 4 was designed with the use of Arcade sticks in mind. It is an Arcade game at heart.

I don’t even bother trying to use viper on a pad - but I mean I hardly use pad unless i’m absolutely forced too.

I have had no choice but to use the 360 controller but I should have my fightpad by tomorrow. I should have enough to ebay a stick soon. If I get a regular stick, should I swap out the stick and buttons for the ones the tourney stick has? If so, is it hot swapable like the tourney stick or will I need a soldering iron?

No soldering iron required. But the buttons and quick release were quite a pain in the ass to take out. New buttons were a bitch to put back in as well. I didn’t change my stick - just the gate.

I’ve never done anything like that before and it really was pretty simple. Just took some proper tools (two needle nose pliers recommended).

thanks a lot for your insight drums. one final thing; the stick is fine I’m assuming. Both sticks use square gates right? is swapping that more for preference or is it really essential for play?

I know there is a stick thread here on SRK but I didn’t see any info that would help.

Is it possible to combo her over head in any way? I’ve tried so many things and I get NOTHING lol. It makes me not really want to use the move unless I have to.

Gates are just preference. Square gate is the standard in Japan. Octagonal gates just help American stick users get used to Japanese style sticks since they are used to rolling their hand around the edges of the stick (which you don’t really need to do on a Japanese).

Yeah like deviljin said, the octo vs square gate thing is just preference. I went with octo because i actually own a street fighter 2 machine and buying an octo gate resembles whats on that machine. I’m trying to not use the gate walls as much anymore for certain motions, but initially have no place to ‘lock in’ a direction felt really odd to me on a square gate.

As far as her overhead. I do not believe you can combo it into or off of anything. What neat little trick I used to use is c.mk/c.mp xx mp.tk to overhead to throw. It almost always works on people. Its great when you’re fighting Ken/ryu/guile and after the c.mk/c.mp xx mp.tk they attempt to throw a fireball and you just elbow right over it.

thats pretty interesting. Thanks for the help guys. I guess i’ll keep the square gate since thats what the arcade I go to uses. Gotta get that stick soon

You can definitely combo her overhead into c.LP or c.MP. It just has to hit very meaty. Like the very last active frames of the move must hit the opponent for it to combo.

cool. I’ll have to try that.

How long did it take you to get FFF down? Im getting consistent 30%ish of the time now…I used to think it was impossible to cancel FP Knuckle but I started landing it today. Viper is alot of fun.

Is it true Viper’s Ultra is the least scaled one in the game?

It kinda seems like that to me, but I’m just really curious

Also, why isn’t the frame data thread stickied?

whats some good links for viper

How small is the window to fient her fierce TK? and on a side note, im getting that stick sometime this week lol.

Very small.

That’s a good question I don’t believe the frame data on wiki shows that.
