C.Viper Q&A: Quick questions here please!

im a stick user but i hope this helps when i was learnin tha hjc bk couple things i wish someone woulda posted is

1 if u can try 2 train ur self 2 not press up first when doin tha diagnals try 2 do it as close u can 2 whichever direction ur facin (left or right) reason why is that it will recognize that up before tha diagnal at least for me

  1. press tha kick as soon she leave tha ground but before she yells in tha high jump sequence (i go by sound recognition at first) so u should hear tha high jump sound then tha bk warcry lol

hope that helps if dont hope it helps someone else but good luck wit that controller thing wit viper thats mad hard

What do you guys use against heavy zoning/poking? I was playin’ Purrin today and he was using Cammy and running a lot of blockstrings and pokes. I tend to have this problem when I face good Chun’s to, I’m just not sure how to break through a barrage of pokes since so much of what Viper does gets stuffed easily and her normals are slow and low priority. If I’m not in BK cross up range against a good zoner my offense gets really shutdown. The only thing that I’ve seen work semi consistantly is her overhead because it dodges low pokes.

Also how often do you guys notice yourself using the foward dash to keep up pressure? I notice a that when I play people that I know are better than me they seem to use the foward dash pretty regularly. I don’t know how much of that is sound strategy and how much of it is just a lack of respect for my ability to punish their rushdown. I don’t want to get into any bad habits cause I’m interpreting their aggression wrongly.

Nydrin told me her f+roundhouse is a good footsie tool, and it worked and went over lows like he said.

Her overhead is good, you should be able to take it from there. Back dash the cannon spike, walk up grab the back dash/grab blocker, EX seismo if they crouch tech…she can do damage in that situation.

Why not footsie back? I use max range strong knuckle to close distance, very sparingly though since it’s easily stopped. Walk in and out of their pokes with low strong, or just walk up and HJC crossover burning kick…it’s whatever when I play Viper since I’m not using her seriously.

If their pokes are really good but have some recovery (usually the really good pokes do) then you can focus absorb and mix up dash throw/HJC burning kick/EX seismo.

If you’re not in that range, I suggest you either walk up and block without taking unnecessary damage, or stay out of jump range and throw some seismo’s to get them near you. Something along those lines…I think.

Don’t listen to me though, ask DevilJin  .

As of last night playing against NinjaCW’s Chun I realized I have no idea how to fight her yet. So don’t listen to me. My only real explanation on how to fight her is from watching Japanese and they pretty much just cross up burn kick her to death. Which it’s obviously not that easy since in order to do that they also have her in some kind of footsie mind game that ends up setting up for the burn kick cross up.

Seriously Viper was given two moves that can be faked for a reason. Her footsie game is a bit lacking but made up for with great mobility and the ability to really trick anyone into attacking at the wrong time. That’s kinda the way you have to play against the characters with the serious pokes. You have to get them to throw stuff at the wrong time and punish with seismos, burning kicks, knuckles etc. I’m like just learning how to use thunder knuckles in footsies and that should help in a match vs. Chun where it seems normally that there’s not a whole lot of leeway for poking her back just based off your normals.

Really the majority of the reason I was losing was due to taking to the air too much to try and cross up burn kick him since I know Chun’s options are limited once I have her layin on her butt. I’ll have to watch some more vids and try out some stuff in training mode and see what I come up with.

I haven’t played C.Viper in 2 days - busy weekend. Does anyone else feel gimpy when they take a couple days off?

I’ve been playing fighting games too long to feel gimpy after a couple days. Most I’ve ever gone without playing a fighting game either on or offline in the past 3 or 4 years is like a week.

What should viper do against boxers? D:
They rape me ._.

take their fight money.

Honestly I have problems with Boxer as well.

Im not the best player, but some things about the boxer mathcup quickly, use focus attacks for his rush punches, use jump backs to catch him on the way down and also add some jump back bk’s or safety insta sj bk’s into the mix. Don’t try and outfootsie him, you will die fast.

o, if boxer is doing one of his charge attacks, you can ultra him.

Vs crouching boxer
-c.fp xx lp tk fadc!!

O.o

Why the fadc?

if the other player is stunned, and have no ultra or no super, whats the next best option?

currently i use the f.throw because it is her strongest single hit move and then usually wait a second and super jump into bk trying for a cross up on get up.

Boy you’re missing out on big damage. Unless you have absolutely ZERO meter (like nothing in your super bar which is nearly impossible to do in a match) charge up to level 3 focus and release your focus attack, dash up fierce feint fierce, MP Knuckle or EX seismo to whatever. Does pretty decent damage for an after stun combo. The damage reduction kick in real hard on a stunned opponent in SFIV so you want to at least make sure you can get another 15 percent damage off of them during a stun combo.

Throwing them would be an absolute waste considering her throw doesn’t do a whole lot of damage (compared to an actual combo) and since they are stunned the throw would do even less damage. Might as well get your moneys worth instead of hoping for a mix up after a weakened throw.

“focus attack, dash up fierce feint fierce, MP Knuckle or EX seismo to whatever.”

i followed the fadc but what do you mean by fierce feint fierce/why would i MP Knuckle?/EX seismo into…?? i dont really use seismo that much at all =\

ya, im pretty terrible at the game, im aware lol. im happy when my BP is in triple digits lol

Oh lawd…LOL.

Well I spit off that combo like someone who already does that stuff all the time that’s for sure. Heh. Well yeah basically what you wanna do is similar to the combo that you have to do in Trial 5 for C.Viper. Except you don’t have to do the grounded sjc burn kick crap.

Basically…charge up focus attack, dash up, close s.HP/c.HP, Thunder Knuckle Feint, c.HP, then MP Thunder Knuckle if you have absolutely no meter. If you have an EX or more do the same combo but after c.HP do EX seismo to super jump HK burn kick and tack on a HP Thunder Knuckle or grounded EX burn kick if they are in the corner.

BTW it’s funny that you bring up your BP cuz my BP would still be in the triple digits if I started playing ranked matches from the game’s release. Definitely had to do some danger room training with Viper before I even thought about risking BP early on.

lol, ill practice that but ill stick to throws for now (but ill practice ex seismo into BK to do that when i have meter)…(but ya, that whole combo is gonna take me a while to get down…like weeks)

just spend like 30 minutes in training before you take it online or versus each time you play.

Yeah it’s definitely not a bad idea to hop in training mode before you start doin’ some matches. I like to practice my fierce feint feirce combo from both sides, and just make sure I’m in a nice rhythm. Works better for me that way, because if I start doing shitty execution wise in matches it gets to me much more than if I’m just being outplayed.

Rakielis a good punish combo for you would be simply cr HP/HP, mp tk. Add a focus attack beforehand if you have time.
