Dark souls. Imo this is the best game made in the last couple years.
Ha, my friend Pat always talks about that game. It just doesn’t interest me much because I’m not big into the whole medieval-fantasy thing.
Now Fallout 3… THERE’S a real RPG.

Mass effect 2 and Dark Souls have been the highlights of this gen for me.
Biggest surprise so far is how good FFXIII-2 actually is, I’m amazed at how good this game is.
If you want a real old fashioned RPG that is also not very old fashioned at all, find Resonance of Fate, it’s really good.
Also, Dark Souls isn’t so much about the medieval fantasy thing, it’s about being a game.
This sounds weird, but so many games nowadays are trying to be more cinematic, or more casual, or more even, or more whatever. Dark Souls is pure, 100% game through and through. I haven’t really played a game that embraced the video game media as completely as Dark Souls since Mega Man X.
It’s about as close to a 3D castlevania as we are ever going to get, and it’s fucking incredible.
Also, Sonic Generations (Damn its good to play a good sonic game again), and Dead Space 1 (fucking amazing game).
Idunno, I just don’t enjoy those kinds of games much. I love games like fallout, where I have the epic freedom to do WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT. Story is nice, but the frredom to create my own character, level them up as I wish, and do whatever the hell I feel like is unparalleled to me.

Indeed, it’s the same engine, so it’s a similar concept. But unlike Fallout, you cannot step out of where you’re supposed to be, pick a random direction, start walking, and almost CERTAINLY come across something COMPLETELY new and unexpected to entertain you that you have never seen before. It’s just an unrivaled experience! I really feel like I’m there.
You can totally do that in Dark Souls, you’ll just find something to kick you ass. You gotta earn the right to walk down every corridor in that game. There’s no set dressing, no time wasting, no Bullshit. Bethesda games by comparison are filled to the brim with uselessness and distractions to make it feel like your making progress when in fact your just walking in straight lines across a too big world map. I Dark Souls you know your accomplishing something because, well, its fuckin hard and you probably died 40 times first. You learned that patterns, picked the right equipment, made a plan and executed it (and I’m just talking about the normal enemies). In Skyrim the actual impact that your gameplay or you character has on anything is negligible, it’s all designed to make you feel like you matter, but you really don’t.
See, I don’t want my game to feel like a game. I want it to feel real. And that’s the thing about fallout. You’re right; I walk across a world map just exploring, I don’t feel like I’m really accomplishing anything for the intended story line. And that’s what I want, because that’s real life. What is wandering the wastes going to get you? Some interesting experiences, probably some scavenged goods, perhaps an interesting weapon, and a whole lot of crazy fucking memories. It’s not somehow going to advance your goals, however, unless you specifically direct yourself towards your goals.
When I play fallout, I feel like I have full control of my character. I can do what I want while still enjoying myself. I can choose to follow the plotline, or just wander and develop my character in other ways. I’m a role-player too, and one that likes to play things real. It probably also helps that my RPing days stem from zombie-related RPs, so post-apocalyptic is right up my ally.
I’m trying to hate of fallout or Skyrim (I love those games too). It’s just with Dark Souls, it’s appeal is actually really hard to describe. It’s one of those things that won’t quite make sense until you actually play it yourself.
Yeah i saw it just yet, awesome work! As soon i come home from work i have to mess around with this. Does it work if you press vajra and throw at the same time?
@dark souls: Try it. It’s too good to not be played. And it doesn’t have a real story at all, it’s a japanese harcore rpg completely based on trial and error, but it’s epic as hell.

I really liked ME2 too, pretty hype for 3 in a few weeks. Didn’t play resonance of fate though, but only heard good things about it.
No, you basically have to call the assist almost immediately before inputting the grab. I’m going to guess that it’s a 1-2 frame link.

I’ll be getting ME3 and SFxT in March. If the netcode is any good on either I’d be glad to game with you guys.
SFxT is really wierd, at first it looked great, then it looked worse and worse, and now it looks good again. (No FADC mechanic, YAY!!!).

Except for Ve. Ve gets no praise because he still hasn’t payed the electric bill/thrown us a party. But then we don’t expect actual progress from him anyways.
Nope, I’m gonna go back to make tech for other characters. It doesn’t matter if Viper has tech or not. It’s not like anyone can really do shit against Viper.
Since i’m in germany, i don’t think a good netcode will make it playable for us unfortunately.
