I’ve given this some thought when maxs vid came out. If this is possible the hitstun might screw it up on an extended combo
WHERE THE HELL IS THE DR. STRANGE Q&A MAX? it’s been 2 weeks already D:
He keeping that Doctor to himself.
If he calls an assist, shoots his satellite projectile or has ourobourous on, you’re not going to be air throwing any ports. Especially not on the teleport kick that tracks and causes ground bounce.
Agreed. I need to know if illusion counters projectiles or not.
pretty sure it doesn’t.
Yeah I doubt it too. Confirmation would be nice though.
if we were to take Max’s word literally, from him saying something along the lines of “it only works on high and mid attacks”, then yeah I doubt it works on projectiles too. I would take simple fullscreen punishes over anti-projectile counters tbh. Strange eats normal projectiles for free with Mystic Sword anyway.
edit: …which makes me wonder, does L Mystic Swords beat projectiles too? is it considered a straight up melee attack or does it retain some durability off the projectile versions, making it able to nullify projectiles like Dorm’s normals?
first post updated with normals. the ones I could make out at least. not a whole lot of footage of Strange players whiffing his normals.
edit: so Viscant thinks Strange is gonna have Felicia/MODOK syndrome where he’ll be good, but not too many people will put in the work with him and he won’t become a threat in tournament altogether. thoughts?
Yeah i agree with what he is saying. I think he might have some trouble because i get the feeling the crucial gameplan that will make him succeed and set him apart from the rest isn’t going to come till farther down the line. Which is okay but might turn some players off and if less people play him less stuff gets exposed. I have a feeling teleport based rushdown characters are going to murder him, and i think that’s funny because he is one of those characters and that might mean mirrors are going to be a pain in the ass… Actually i haven’t even thought of that Strange mirrors are probably going to be ridiculous, strange shuts down his own projectile game and he could be pringles to his own teleport.
I definitely see strange as a middle man or anchor. My strategy is going to be roughing up the opponent up with Shuma Gorath on point and then when Shuma gets low on health, I’ll fire a mystic stare and then switch to Strange (explosive eyeballs will now be perma-locked on the opponent) this gives me time to set up an eye of agamotto to begin my zoning defense.
a character that requires work?
you mean i cant just turn off my brain and play them half asleep?
well fuck me
people getting into the game are more often than not going to get turned off by execution barriers. that’s the biggest reason why we haven’t seen too many Vipers run Vanilla MvC3. then there’s also those who bandwagon the pro teams and play the characters they play while completely leaving the unpopular ones in the dust, with tech that is yet to be undiscovered.
Is Mystic Swords safe on block?
I wonder if Graces can be set up to create and overhead attack that has to be blocked high? Unblockable set ups anyone?
it seems pretty unlikely that flames or explosion (or the beam) would hit overhead. From memory I can’t think of any projectiles that do.
usually it’s only physical attacks that hit high or low. can’t think of any projectile that would do that off the top of my head.
@Flashy Nights: which version? the projectile or melee?
He won’t be as popular as the bffs, but I’m pretty sure he’s not gonna get slept on like Felicia and MODOK. So far, the basic day 0 combos from him look good altogether. Of course it’s going to take time to see some of his real good stuff, but I definitely see some major tournament usage down the lines. Maybe on the same level as how Dormammu is/shaped up to be at the very least.
Melee.
I like how SoV basically flips the opponent up in the air like that after the hyper. Reminds me of the one Marvel Madness of Max’s where he Strange immediately superjumped and did a quick reset with an air throw right afterward. Reminds me of MODOK’s Hyper Battering Ram… same mechanic
in the corner: launch, Air Impact Palm xx Fly, SoV. air throw/OS Impact Palm as they recover into Dr. Strange. wonder if that works…
