"By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth!" The Doctor Strange Thread!

you can get at least one grace after impact palm and continue the combo. MAYBE 2, but not sure of that.

Ooooh, that sounds like it has potential. Jeebus, Stephen is going to be able to have tons of things on the screen at once.

The range is a non-issue for someone with as many good teleports as Strange. You either using it mid combo, where it’s godly, and (in theory) could lead easily to ToD in the corner. Or you use it while an assist is hitting them by teleporting behind them and doing it as a cross-up (dunno if I personally would do that though). If your flying when you teleport then if you even be an instant overhead too.

Overemphasize nothing, it’s a move that, when considering his others, will probably be very intergral to his play. While that one move would not a character make, it certainly can empower one with the move-set of the Sorcerer Supreme.

Corner impact palm loops are the new hyperswag combo

Just lay them hands down all day long in the corner, so many hands, all over you, Stephen’s gonna be on you like a drunk uncle on Christmas day.

Lay down graces between crumples > force air/ground recovery > call assist + crumple beam > GET FUCKED ON.

pretty sure you can only crumple once in a combo. looks like you can loop with H Mystic Swords though since there’s not too much pushback.

people keep talking about palm loops, but it doesn’t actually loop :stuck_out_tongue: The second one does a soft knockdown (no multiple crumples in 1 combo, as I remember).

Jinx!

not too sure on the pushback of impact palm in the corner but maybe you could loop impact palm xx Mystic Swords H…

If the second palm does softs then either throw an OTG in der or lets start finding Strange resets.

jab (to force air tech) xx L Discs of Denak in the corner. disc flies offscreen and punishes your opponent if they mash. off ground roll maybe you can try a high-low or left right since the disc in theory should allow you to hit both sides.

lockdown with Eye of Agamotto will be pretty sick too, can’t wait to start playing this character… on that note, has anyone seen footage of pushblocking Eye of Agamotto? does it push Strange back or does he just stay there?

This makes me feel like Strange should play like a simpler Dante. Covering the screen in various fireworks that cover his approach to let him get in for styling combos (you know someone watching will be impressed if you really know have to work dem GoH) with only like one or two defensive options if someone gets within your personal space bubble (Dante has Hammer, Strange has Illusion).

I could totally go for another Dante. Especially if haters gonna hate on my various crumples and stylin’ cape.

yeah seems to me that at this point, Strange plays like a jack-of-all-trades type of character like Magneto, Phoenix, Doom, Dante, etc. he can zone and rushdown equally well but with regards to defense people will probably rely too much on Illusion to get him out of trouble. it’s not like Dante’s “LOLNOPE” hammer that’s invincible and leads to a ToD combo if you touch a button. Illusion can get predictable eventually so having an AA assist (coughPWcough) will be really beneficial for him to get fools off you and to set up graces safely. or maybe you played 3S and Illusion counters are just like parrying. lol

Does Illusion work on hypers?

“BIONIC”… LOLNOPE ILLUSION!

seth said that he was doing resets with EoA alot in the corner after a impact palm

btw id rather just finish the combo n get about setting some graces

^that depends actually. if strange’s damage output isn’t that good then we may need to invest in resets than go for high-damaging combos. spell of vishanti doesn’t look like it does a whole lot of damage and you can only DHC out of it with certain characters (Magneto, Zero, Storm, Doom, etc).

I could see a lot more characters than that DHC’ing into it. Since it keeps going if you cut early (like with HSF) and in lifts them off the ground. It’d be like chaining Chaotic Flame to Purification. Coincidently, maybe Dormammu can chain off it in just that fashion.

you’re probably right. the timing will probably be tricky but it sounds like it’s plausible anywhere on the screen. Strange just has to be close enough unless the character you’re DHCing to has good range on his/her hyper and it’s fast enough.

I spose do a mix of both

that teleport will create some nasty mixups , just wish akuma tatsu never got nerfedlol

Pretty sure it will be strange who is pushed back.

i think Strange will be a pretty good meter user. i see some potential 4 meter vishanti combos with him

the problem with dhc’ing out of BoV isn’t just that it throws them so high, but also that they flip out of it immediately. You have to DHC into something that’ll hit that high and super fast, they won’t fall into anything.

Ones I can think of offhand; Sphere Flame, Gamma quake, Gamma crush, Rekkouha, Ice Storm (if they’re NOT in the corner), Shinkuu hadouken (if ryu comes in right under them, not sure of that one)…

Somebody should try DHCing to Devil Trigger and then trying to combo acid rain after it (might work and would be damn flashy.)

Given the super-fast recovery from being hit by the move, its entirely an intentional design choice.

Also, kind of foggy on the terminology, after the second impact palm (presuming you don’t combo into swords or something), I think they flip out in the air and end standing. What do you even call that?
