"By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth!" The Doctor Strange Thread!

I love beam supers cuz they are good for DHC’s and you can tag assists real easy, and his looks like it’s a beam super that’s invulnerable to projectiles. I guess Dr Strange is cool since we didn’t get cyclops. His teleports and specials look like fun.

I’d guess it’s Bolts of Bedevilment.

Could also be Eldritch Beam, but that only works after an absorbed attack in the comics, iirc.

If it’s true to the comics then it should be a projectile counter hyper. If they don’t shoot something at you then nothing happens. I’m curious to see if it only counters hypers or if it works against normal projectiles too.

If it counters hypers I’m sure it has to shit on regular projectiles too. What’s the point if regular projectiles are gonna stuff it?

I guess what I meant was that I wonder if it will have all of its amazing beam-ness if it counters a regular projectile or if something not as snazzy will pop out instead.

where do i sign up for the dr.strange bandwagon?
im learning this dude no matter what…hes a fucking beast did u not SEE the lvl 3?!

Wolverine became broken with his Berserker slash and his dive kick. Dante became broken with the hit box of his normals and the hammer. Phoenix became broken with her teleport and salty balls. You just need 1-2 broken stuff that nobody can handle to be god tier in this game. Also, if Strange’s double beam assist does become the next Sentinel drones, he’ll be in many people’s team even without any broken crap. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Clockw0rk, Viscant, F Champ and co use him as a replacement for Phoenix since a lot of what he does resembles Phoenix. J Wong wrote on his twitter too that he thinks Strange is a better version of regular Phoenix.

I don’t get the similarity other people are with Strange & Phoenix.

Phoenix basically had one dependable projectile, the ability to teleport, and the dependency to transform into Dark Phoenix in order to do major damage. Strange has a multitude of projectiles, possibly better teleporting options and far more offensive & defensive options than Jean Grey. Hell, you can put Strange on point and with the right assists completely control the pace of the match. Put Jean on point?

“SMASH! xx HULK STOP YOU! GAMMA CRUSH!!!”

Maybe it’s just me, but it’s just an annoying comparison.

I’m really likin’ what I’m seein’. Strange is gonna be tight. I especially like that he has a projectile counter, too. All those physical counter hypers from Tasky and Wesker were gettin’ lonely.

He looks really weak outside of combos though. His level 1 hypers look annoying and really good…but each one alone did like: 100k. Almost lvl1 hyper psionic blaster attack power.

And he looks super advanced.

I don’t know about that, i’ve seen several people play as him. Some extremely well too.

Anyway, what do you guys think Strange’s alt will be?

At first, Firebrand was the character I was most scared of when watching the gameplay videos. Doctor Strange changed that. 0_0

His look after losing the SS title would be decent alt look.

In all honesty I’m surprised with all of the Doc Strange love. I mean I love the guy and he was my most wanted Marvel character (and the only Marvel character of the 8 leaked that I’m really interested in seeing other than RR), but the guy wears tights and has a gigantic blue collar. I hope he becomes widely used online, needless to say it would be a nice change of pace!

Aww…I was calling it SMELL OF A SHANTI.

same.

(I am returned to the land of consciousness…only to see like half of the people here talking about tiers still/already. All of my hate.)

So, it seems like have most of the names of his special and super moves by now, which I should probably edit into my initial post so as not to confuse people:
[]Mystic Sword - Blue, wave-looking straight-forward special projectile; it’s probably his third assist.
[
]Disks of Denak - Three homing disk/chakram-like specials projectiles with a bit of start-up. One of his assists.
[]Bolts of Balthakk - Horizontal beam special with rather significant gaps in between at least one version of it. Probably duckable by most characters. One of his assists.
[
]Flames of Faltine - Weakish looking projectile of at best moderate speed that is powered-up and can bounce off of…
[]Grace of Hoggoth (?) - “Bit”-system orbs used to bounce around and power-up Flames of Faltine and maybe other projectiles of his. There are at least yellow and red versions. It remains to be seen whether he has a “blue” version or if the third motion is used for Flames of Faltine or something else like…
[
]Eye of Agamotto - Initially stationary multi-projectile that Doctor Strange can knock around if he so chooses. It remains to be seen how much he knock it around (think Venom from Guilty Gear) or how fast he can or if he can power-up it or if it has multiple versions; I suspect that it only has one version, personally, and wouldn’t be surprised if it was QCF+:s: as said earlier.
[]Illusion (?) - Counter special that leaves him behind the opponent. It seems likely that’s completely free to do as he chooses after it works if that throw in the trailer isn’t part of it and I suspect that was just his normal ground throw given what his air throw looks like.
[
]Spell of Vishanti - Lower-end damage super that makes up for that by hitting OTG, hitting pretty much to the top of the (normal) superjump screen, being able to be used at least twice in a combo, starting up quite fast, being Air-OK **and ** possibly tracking.
[]Seven Rings of Raggador - Counter super that might “only” counter projectiles, but has pretty quick start-up, counters other super projectiles and probably leaves him completely invulnerable until it’s over (I’d assume, if it’s anything like Magneto’s [stupid] Forcefield move).
[
]Astral Body (?) - Level 3 ranbu-esque super that possibly starts as a projectile. Appears to be rather easy to combo into since he can get it off his own sweep without assists and he has at least two moves that cause clean crumple.
The only things that he doesn’t/hasn’t said the name for are his flight and teleport moves and someone pointed out earlier that his flight move is probably called “Cloak of Levitation”.

Actually, I thought it might have it just have detonated because it was the last (red) one on the field and that the projectile was just from him doing Flames of Faltine while right on top of it. It’s difficult to tell at present. Good eye, though.

As for how many he can set up, I would be surprised if it was more than three.

He’s only that tall when standing, though, and that’s really only because he’s floating a bit. When he crouches–see around 0:45 in the video that Calcal linked to–down, he seems to get quite low (unless the neck of his cowl counts, which would be…cruel), which is actually what’s more important. If he had a tall hit box even when crouching or was very wide, then yeah, I could see his height being a problem, but he seem to get rather low and he’s lanky, so it’s probably a minor problem at best.

Still, it’s something to note I suppose.

Good man/sponge-person.

Keeping my Chris from crying himself to sleep at night?

Yeah, I highly doubt that Strange is going to out right replace M.O.D.O.K. between Levels of Understanding, Barrier and the buff that M.O.D.O.K. got to his air normals.

As for his alt, it’s probably his “bum”-looking ex-Sorcerer Supreme outfit that ForeverZero linked to. I’ll lol rather hard if it’s Brother Voodoo, though, in Capcom’s attempt to put another “black” person in the game.

That or it’s Mu-12’s outfit since Doctor Strange is totally petanko and has nice legs; I’m looking forward to Jill’s Bang outfit then, though I’d prefer Felicia to get nun outfit rather Taokaka’s one.

It’s not nearly as powerful, so no.

Thread title should have been “Who needs pants when you have magic?”

I’d love to see his 1602 costume as an alt costume, that’d be kickass.

this thread title is much, much better than the one you suggest
