they’re RAR files. Download winrar and extract the image out of it; prolly BIN/CUE. You’ll have to selfboot it yourself if you dont want to use a boot disk.
I’ve been trying to burn files to a cd-r. The ending tags are not the .iso or any other image tag. What should I do to transfer the info to an image file?
A footnote:
Early DC releases occurred during the days when most people had dial-up. This mean that releases of games were only the game data and were not dummied.
Some DC games are only a couple hundred megs.
CD-R’s are burned from the inside out. The first bit of data is burned on the innermost part of the disc.
If there is only enough data to fill a small portion of the disc this will all be put on the inside of the disc.
When the DC needs to access the disc the laser eye will move back forth. This moving back and forth action causes the laser track to wear out over time just like any other CD player.
To alleviate this problem DC releases require dummying. This is the process of putting useless data on a disc to push the relevant data to the outside. The outside of the disc contains more surface area for data so the laser doesn’t have to move back and forth as much. This conserves the lifespan of the dc.
Nearly every DC iso has been dummied now. But if you have old burned DC games from years back, or more likely emulation discs, you will need to replace them.
When done right DC back ups are completely harmless.
In my experience it also helped to use good quality CD-Rs. I used music CD-R’s with a black coating and they worked very well.
