I’ve been relying on teleports way too much recently, so I haven’t really experimented with Dorm/Bolts enough. They’re a new assist, and I’ve got that honeymoon period where you just crossup on your friends all day and they don’t know how to deal with the assist yet. I bet there’s some broken stuff, but right now I’m happy abusing flame carpet plus call bolts, the second bolt keep your teleport safe from airthrows, go into j.L tridashes after the one crossup. It’s a mixup after blocked carpet! That’s new to me. Anyway, I’m going to start working on ranged game with bolts soon, so I’ll post when I’ve got something half-decent, and we can tear it apart and “optimize” it.
I’m thinking you can make the check out to Vergil/Morrigan/Missiles for infinite lockdown…alternate between swords, round trip and missiles, harmonzier in the middle. It’s the cloest I can theory up, though. Prepare to be even more terrified of ChrisG a few years down the line.
Haha, for the lockdown I meant dorm specifically, but yeah chris’s team is strong that way. Vergil can even do better lockdown than people are doing with DT orbs.
Well, you get a few more pillars for the opponent to block with very little thought involved, you can keep the assist safe with chaotic flame at times, and it I think has slightly slower startup than plasma, and way less durability. You trade safety and reliability for a lockdown on top of a beam, and although they can duck some of your beam crossups, that doesn’t matter so much with dark matter, and you’re still safe from air throws. Strange can go fH+call dark hole into mystic sword L, very safe, very nice string, or alternatively, pillar is annoying to get near strange with, and he can actually use it to otg for a buncha impact palms. Don’t ask me about setting up impact palm loops, I have no idea how to do those. If you want to snipe assists or just win a ranged war, doom is better for bad matchups, but strange has very nice potential for both rushing down and range. I just haven’t explored it enough. Reason I switched to bolts, it is literally one of the best assists for Nemesis, and allows for crazy confirms off his tentacles.
Extension-wise, they’re amazing. With Launcher Slam and Bolts Dorm can get a bit more than 1 million off a bar in the corner, with the jump-in damage, of course. Bolts does most of the work for extending, though off a midscreen knockdown you won’t find nearly as much. Midscreen, try dark matter+ bolts, teleport M, j.H j.MMH j.MHS (I forget if you can get a third jumploop, I think so), launcher, air stuff, tower, flamez. It’s really fun looking.
Just watch out for birthdays, all I have to say. Trigger happy akumas, be a bit more cautious calling out strange than if you used plasma. Otherwise, good synergy is good. I’m new with them but very satisfied.
thank you for response. I’m kind of 50/50 with it for now but that whole tridash mixup sounds pretty good lol. ehh I don’t even know where to start with him but I’ll see. thanks again.
I had some free time yesterday, so I made a little video on some Dormy corner combos. Some of the stuff is well-known already, but I wanted to make it accessible to multiple skill-levels. May be useful, also a decent extension with Strider to get 2 Big Bangs in a combo.
What do you guys do against Hawkeye? His arrows are fast enough to get out before you can Purification or Dark Hole and if you try to chase him down he just runs away with more arrows.
So, does Dorm really need a beam assist to make him scary? I know Disruptor helps his mixup game, but smarter opponents will try to avoid the crossup as much as possible. Seems like he’s fine with either Jam Session/Missiles and something like Harmonizer to solve his meter issues.
I loled at that. I’m not a fan of her stuff, just the fact that I was using Felicia as the training dummy, and the added fact that she was very much on fire, made me laugh.
It was originally going to be Fire Field from F-Zero GX, but I thought a little humor suited it better at the end, considering it was basically the same combo again and again, but built around different team compositions.
I personally hate the hawkeye matchup, but if I had to choose one tactic, I’d say either his projectile nullifiying normals or jumping then airdashing up, both accompanied by calling bolts, and then maybe a teleport. If I can land the teleport or not, Strange getting called safely is all I need, as he stops Hawkeye for long enough for him to play more defensively. I prefer the jump, because then a gimlet still won’t hit my assist. That’s all my team has, pretty much, that or fight him with Strange.
So it’s just rely on assist? It’s so annoying when he’s last cuz he prob has a bunch of meter and will gimlet you if you try to fly and charge spells and just arrows you to death. I’ll try jumping up to call safe assist. Thanks
The beams aren’t there to provide the teleport mix-up, though. They’re there to help keep him safe and cover the horizontal so he can keep his posture. The teleport mix-up is nice, but IMO it’s something you maybe once out of every 3-4 beam calls to keep it unpredictable.
Anyone wanna tell me how to pull of Dormammu’s TAC glitch, the one I see Dooms use a lot? I got it a few times by ADDFing into flight after a midscreen down tac, but it’s not nearly consistent. Someone know?
No, if you mean his TAC combos I had those a while ago, those are pretty simple. I’m talking where you can whiff the second part of your TAC near the ground and cause a forced wallbounce or groundbounce, like this
, but with Dormammu.
I haven’t seen it used much and I’ve done it a few times by accident, I’m trying to figure out how to recreate it consistently.
Both of those work for teleport mix ups but come out a little slow compared to mags beam. But yes they do help. Try them out and others and see which you like best. Some people like a quick fast beam, others like a slower longer one like stranges bolts
I like to do a lot of super jump, or jump up airdash, fly charge one, unfly, (now im safe) see what hes doing and decide weather to tele m and snap em with the low, or repeat that jump fly charge. I also try and bait out gimlets as much as possible using the above tactic. they see me fly and try and super, but i just unfly. i dont think hawkeye is that bad for dorm.
