Burn in the Flames of the Faltine! Dormammu Combo/Strategy Discussion thread

Not a clue what the guy you saw did to make it work, but a guy asked about it a couple of pages back and I worked it out for him then:

As soon as I read your quote I knew exactly that’s how he did it. Sick. Thank you very much!

Are we talking about in corners, or anywhere?

Anywhere.

Ohhhh, hmmm, does what I posted work midscreen? I only recall that working in the corner…

That setup you described to me, sounds just like the one I saw, and it was at midscreen.

Hmmm, well I’m trying to work it out midscreen but that corner variant doesn’t work, and I’m having trouble making it work. It’s a puzzle in itself.

Finally got around to messing with it myself. Yeah I was totally wrong about the mid screen thing I think. Memory is unreliable as it is. Corner is easy but I tried everything I could think of to connect it. Might have to switch to EoA assist for combo purposes.

EoA holds opponents in place on hit, correct?

Roughly.

Hm, should I post this here, or the video thread?

Missiles corner relaunch.

^^^^ Ouu thats pretty sexy

Haggar is not an Anchor. That said Dorm’s Dark Hole and naked Liberation can help Haggar keep comboing. Doom Missiles can help him to but I think he’d probably benefit more from beam.

haggar rocking lariat means Dormammu has a crossover counter at the ready.

With regards to pairing Dorm with Doom (Missiles)/Akuma (Tatsu), should I go for Dorm/Akuma/Doom or Akuma/Dorm/Doom? Depending on matchups, having Akuma on point seems to be a good option because of his walk speed and footsies game. Though Tatsu does help Dorm to escape start-of-round shenanigans.

Akuma/Doom/Dorm, IMO.

Use ChrisG’s logic, which I think is very sound and worth replicating:

  1. Doom is your best assist. You do not want to start Doom because losing him would be very, very bad.
  2. Dormammu is not good at starting, and he likes to come later so he can have meter.
  3. Akuma is great at starting. He builds a ton of meter and, while he likes it, he’s okay with saving it for others or for combos. ToDs most characters.
  4. No one is going to blow XF1 on Akuma.
  5. People might blow XF2 or XF3 on Akuma.
  6. When you lose a character to XF2/3, there’s a good chance you’ll lose the next character.
  7. You do not want to lose Akuma+Dormammu and have to make a comeback with Doom.
  8. Dormammu is much, much stronger if you DHC into him.
  9. Dormammu is your second strongest anchor.

Therefore, Akuma on point. If you a bad run and lose Akuma, your goal is to Photon Array -> Stalking Flare to get Dormammu in with full screen control. If you lose Akuma and Doom, then you have a reasonably strong anchor. If you did Akuma/Dormammu/Doom, you would have to create space with Dormammu, and if your opponent is using a good rushdown team, you might never get the breathing room to call Hidden Missiles.

Just like ChrisG, once you have 3 bars, give consideration to DHCing through all three characters to get Dormammu on point. Then you can have Akuma anchoring as your new comeback character, and Dormammu assumes his role in ensuring you maintain your established lead.

I wanted to run Dorm/Doom/Akuma at first, but Doom with Tatsu is very, very underwhelming. This is some good advice as I have thought about Akuma/Doom/Dorm before because of ChrisG’s setup (though he does start Morrigan sometimes) for the most part. Dorm on point with Tatsu seems to a decent choice since Tatsu does help against start-of-round mayhem, but starting Dormammu on point still feels weird.

I actually DHCed the original order with 3 bars and the order becomes Dorm/Akuma/Doom.

so i was messing around with dorm in practice and found out that if you have fully charged hands you can plink the stalking flare and the hands will activate at the same time with no animation. wasnt sure if anyone else found this out yet.

been using this for a while , especially with 2b 1 r for full screen lock down and a chance to recharge spells again/ call assist.

Yeah, known since release - very annoying.

unfortunatly i am out of the loop on this could you explain how this would be done on pad - im assumeing u would just do the 623 - aa and the 214 - h all as one motion ?
