Burn in the Flames of the Faltine! Dormammu Combo/Strategy Discussion thread

Great stuff, Mr. Dr, thanks! Ive been rockin Mag Dorm Doom for weeks now (crazy with my terminal case of Character A.D.D.), and have been playing like a whole new player. Just obliterating people who used to give me serious problems. I am so fucking in love w/ this team. Anyway, I keep asking for Dorm Doom sequence specifics and stuff, figuring my own tactics arent worth anyone’s time. But since Ive been getting in so much practice and having relative success, maybe I’ll post up a bit of what Ive been doing w/ the duo. I figure if either someone learns something and improves their own play w/ the duo, or if someone points out any flaws or things Ive missed thus helping me improve with it, both results would have to be considered victories.

It won’t come immediately, will need some time to type it all up. But I’ll try to get out a good description of how I’ve been trying to make this team as broken as can be. All I know is playing a Dorm that has the options of both zoning w/ missiles and crossing up w/ Disruptahs makes me have to loosen my belt 2 notches.

The wallbounce combo, does it work everywhere on screen? It looks like it could be positional. I learnt the flight combo and it does about 700k but that extra 100k could prove really useful.

It works everywhere except right near the corner. Here’s a video of me doing it on different characters at different points of the screen.

Thanks for clearing that up, ill hit up the lab and begin working on that. Good thing it works, it also allows for some pretty easy snap back combos(if your not running the otg assist).

EDIT: Btw, are any of these combos practical I ask because I’ve never seen any dormammu go for these, even someone like champ who is usually on top of his shit. So I figured they might be impractical.

Mag/Dorm/Doom is the cheapest “completely Marvel” team period. Also, it’s nice to see all 3 get represented highly in that FB Avengers Alliance game as end bosses too. Too bad I’m still working on my Magneto and using Arthur as a substitute anchor. Be sure to incorporate Attraction/Repulsion if you want to make that team really broken.

I’m testing the Doom/Arthur THC and it seems you can still do mixup/rushdown paradise. Just not as long as Ammy’s, but hey, it still works.

Arthur’s Daggers does provide decent lockdown since it’s a mix of Arrows and Drones.

Well for a while I’ve been asking people for some of the specific sequences a missiles-Dorm has that helps make him so broken. Mr. Doctor gave some good generalities about the mindset, and Din0 offered a few really nice ones, but if youve got specific patterns and sequences that “prove” how broken the team is, don’t hold out! lol My last post earlier was to say I’d write out a few of the ones Ive figured out and been using, but obviously much better shit, like the stuff Din0 posted, exists. I want to know it! And any other missiles-Dorm players should too. The goal basically being to simulate an infinite lockdown. Infinite lockdown doesnt actually exist, but with 3+ meters, missiles-Dorm should be able to get pretty close w/ some good reads.

Karsticles said something to the effect that it involves a lot of freestyling. And he’s right. But that def doesn’t mean there aren’t established patterns with which to freestyle with. It’s like Spencer combos… there are a bunch of different ways they can go depending on circumstances. But all those different paths still involve known sequences that act as the building blocks.

Unfortunately, I’m still exploring. I decided to go back to Doom/Dorm because I loved those two characters from Vanilla and never got bored with those two. There’s definitely a huge freestyling element to it and that’s what Marvel is all about.

Oh, I was reading S-Kill’s article on controlling space and was reminded about his love for Dorm (he hyped him a lot at NYCC 2011 when discussing character changes) and Doom (used his MvC2 incarnation as an example in his essay and hyping about his “undiscovered tech” in Vanilla MvC3). I wonder if he wanted Dorm/Doom to play a bigger role in UMvC3.

"“Oooooooooooooooo!!! That wolverine got wasted!!!”

Yay Zak did the dormammu combo I mentioned a couple weeks ago at the curleh mustache. 4 flame carpet juggles in the corner with spell charges.

That combo was insane. Which characters does that work on again?

Small characters, Wolvy included. I figured out the double chaotic flame, but the second flame carpet juggle requires you to, S, immediately air S, then he air dashes down and cancels his landing with a normal, then another carpet. That part is quite hard.

Do you have the inputs for that particular combo? Is it practical to use?

Question: I am having difficulty getting the Ammy Coldstar/ Flame Carpet OTG combo that Zac Bennet does to work midscreen. Does anyone have any hints or secrets? They either pop out of the cold star, or the cold start is too slow to come out.

Yea coldstar is weird like that, from watching some vids it would seem you wanna put down the flame carpet after calling ammy out, so around the time dorm says “assist me” is when you should be putting the carpet down. Try that out and see what good.

I’m working on Dormammu. Trying to get some combos that don’t require assists. The best I have thusfar is L>M>S>jM>jM>jH>jS>QCB-H (three destruction charges)>M>S>jM>jH>jS> either Purrification into Chaotic Flame for around 750K or Dark Dimension for around 920K. Anything y’all can think of to extend it? Again, I’m trying to do this WITHOUT assists.

There are a few hits you can do earlier to make this more damaging, but I like the fast mixup significantly more, currently I’m getting the hang of doing this combo online (midscreen only).

Tri-Dash L, cr. L, st. H, 6H, Light Teleport right when they bounce against the wall, quick dash down, air H, neutral jump air MHS, forward jump air MHS, MS, MMHS, tower then FIRE. Assistless, powerful, goes up to 800-ish damage if you actually maximize with a bunch of heavier moves to start it.

Depending on where I am on the screen, then I use assists to continue, with a rapid slash+ground dash, flame carpet, 6H, charge red, QCF H, Chaotic Flame, but that is only when I end as far from the corner as possible.

In case you guys don’t know you can do bounce more characters in the corner on flame carpet than the 6 wolverine like characters if you take a character dependent step back and time the flame carpet. Vergil is one of the easiest to make work and also one of the most useful. Its like take a half second step back and throw down the carpet before vergil is done bouncing.

Magneto works but is one of the finicky characters.

Hey board I am starting to pick up dorm but am having a problem picking a point character for my team. Im an ammy player and am thinking about xx/dorm/ammy or something like that but don’t know who I should start with. Any suggestions? I saw zak play firebrand and it seems like a good option but I wanted to know any others that could work out.

Hey guys, I’m learning UMVC3 and trying to get better at it. Currently playing Hulk, Taskmaster, Dormammu. I’ve been working on the following corner only bit all night, inspired slightly by THIS presentation by Zak Bennet at Evo this year, but I can’t figure out some things about it.

s.M, s.H, s.S, j.M, j.M, j.H, j.S, df.H, s.S, j.M, j.M, j.H, j.S, c.M, s.S, j.M, j.H, j.S, FDP+L, QCF+PP

I’ve completed it several times, but inconsistently. When I complete it, I get about 800k damage out of it. The issue lies after the second j.S. Sometimes the Flame Carpet dissipates and sometimes it’s still there. When it’s there I can complete the combo. But when it’s not then I have to just lay another Flame Carpet and I haven’t figured out where to go from there. My question is this: Why does it dissipate sometimes and not others?

Thanks for any help you can give =D

Probly the size of the hitbox on your training dummy is the issue. Zak’s combo and specific flame carpet juggling properties only work on small-hitbox characters, Wolvy being in the upper reaches of that category. Beyond that, not sure.
