Bullies will always exist in schools…but kids are getting to be bigger and bigger pussies. My high school years, the 90’s, nobody shot anybody except for isolated gang incidents in really bad black and hispanic neighborhoods. Bullied kids either fought back (and in many cases, became friends with those who tormented them because in fighting back, they earned some respect) or took the abuse and cried a bit, but didn’t let that shit affect them after high school. Now people will off themselves over some anonymous comment, because parents are turning their kids to wimps, and telling them them dumb shit that makes them believe the world is supposed to love and adore them like they have sunshine coming out of their naive asses, and when they find out that isn’t true, they go nuts.

But this kid is something else…I’m actually (pleasantly) surprised that a bullied kid will fight back these days after the feminism of males has been underway for over a decade.

It’s not always just some off hand comment. I mean there was that girl a few towns over from me, Phoebe Prince, who was harassed constantly, her attempts at getting it stopped by going to school figures landed on def ears. I mean a guy pretended to be interested in her then went around telling everyone she slept with him and was a slut. The girls would drive by her walking home and throw the trash from their car at her.

I’ll agree a lot of kids are getting pussier but at the same time the bullies are getting worse due to the empowerment of never being called on their shit when shit goes down.

Bullying, for the most part, is about humiliating the other person. The reason why you see a larger spotlight on bullying now is because there are other means to do it compared to when we were growing up. YOu can say “Well, back in my day” and it makes you sound like you don’t know what’s going on.

Dude, these guys FILMED this. My guess is they intended to put it up on youtube and embarass the big kid even more than he’d been embarassed previously. There’s hardly any empathy on the net. People laugh at others’ misfortunes on a regular basis. Hell, I think that half the content on youtube is stuff that’s embarassing to others.

Further, there seem to be fewer ways to cope with this type of bullying. It used to be that you dealt with it at school, and then you went home. Shit was okay at home, and then you dealt with it back at school. Nowadays, kids are practically jacked into the net. They can’t get away from this shit, and it’s compounded further by the lack of apathy that exists because the internet allows people to be anonymous douche bags. Case in point, I doubt you’d say half the stupid, racist shit you do if I was standing next to you, but here on SRK nobody really knows you so you don’t really feel the need to censor yourself that often.

This makes me remember this one story I read a long time ago (can’t remember if it was fiction or autobiographical). This young black boy who lived in in a rough neighborhood was getting bullied and beat up by some other kids for his money that was given to him from his mother to buy groceries. One time, the bullies were after him, and the boy ran home to try and get help from his mom. His mom knew what was up, but she intentionally locked the front door. She told him that he would have to deal with the situation by himself! (tough love) So, with tears in his eyes, the boy fended off the bullies somehow. (maybe he used rocks or some stick, I forget)

Man, that shit happened so many times in the projects it’s not even funny. And it only happened to the couple of kids who had no aptitude for fighting cuz there was no man in the house, and who were a few years younger, and smaller than everybody else. How the hell did those women expect their kids to know how to fight back without a dude there to teach them how to fight in the first place?
