@Metric - both of those cabinetes are sexy. I’d gladly take either one.
What did you put inside the cabs? The legit jamma boards or a console?
Found this on YT:

Ignore the idiots saying to get an actual 3s arcade board, its a ton of expense and work for very little gain.
Buy a CRT, two arcade sticks, a 360/PS3 and build a frame for them and you pretty much set.
If you watched the ST tournament of legends they were literally a ghetto arcade machine: A CRT on a table, with two sticks jutting out. Also if you use a 360/PS3 you can play other console fighting games on it.
The ToL tournament was played on the arcade version dummkopf
True, true, I am a dummkopf, but the setup wasn’t an actual arcade machine which is the point I was trying to make.
EDIT: Just in case people are curious:
it was a supergun, which works just like an arcade cab Kappa
You’re half-right, but they were playing the legit arcade version. Like vandarkholme mentioned, they were playing on a Supergun. Think of it as a miniaturized arcade machine.
The biggest problem with the PS2 version is that the gameplay speed feels faster. You can’t really tell from videos, but if you play on the arcade version(or even OE on a CRT) and then go on PS2, you’ll definitely notice the difference. There are also minor hitbox issues: some combos work easier when they shouldn’t, and some combos don’t work consistently when they should. Everything else is for the most part fine, but the gameplay speed kills it for many people.
The Dreamcast version is trash. If you’re on a budget and not THAT crazy about 3S, I would also advise just going with the PS3.
if I didnt have fucking tuition to save for, I woulda already had me 3S cab…oh well maybe by the end of this year I’ll have the spare dosh for one.
because seriously, fuck that side by side we play on.
but I am grateful we have one in town, nonetheless
What’s wrong with the dreamcast version out of curiosity?
11 frame latency is what I know of, but others claim there’s much more missing. There is the difference in music, though. My head hurts.
Also the ToL was played on that setup so that some players could play on what controlers theyre the best at ( Snake Eyes could have played on pad on that setup, John Choi could play with his american joystick and buttons etc.)
- No unblockables.
- Input delay.
- Sprites are different sizes.
- No original arcade music(but this is a personal thing).
Basically, there’s a story of how Mopreme hated the DC port so much when it came out, he immediately went and bought at CPS-3 board with 3S.
Damage on the DC version is fucked as well. Yun does more damage using standing fierce instead of palms in GJ. The timing is also WAY fucked up.
Ps2 - speed is faster
ps3 - lots of crazy bugs
emu - input lag
If you’re not going the CPS3 route, then pick whatever system has the most non-3s games you want to play on your homemade system
If you can get any CPS3 system (except 2i) on the cheap (i’ve seen Red Earth / Jojo’s for $80), then you can simply up the ram slots and burn a custom ISO to play arcade third strike.
