I got the board about a month and a half ago and I loved it. But it stopped working today. My ps4 started displaying a message that there were to many usb devices plugged in. After some research I found it means that not enough power is getting to the usb devices. I did some trouble shooting and my console is fine (dualshock charges corretly), as is the cord for the stick(tested it on my ps360+ and it worked fine). The only thing I can think of left is that to board broke, but its almost new. I got it in prep for evo. The pic is of the board. The red circled part lights up for half a second when i plug it in. Dose anything about the board look off or anything?imgur.com/PvoqiIN Pic is of the board.
welcome from reddit!
Are you using a USB A to B cable or are you using the onboard pinouts or soldered pins?
Make sure its not getting shorted out somewhere. It doesnât look super secured in the case and could be touching the JLF creating a short which in turn creates a high current demand which then causes the symptoms you are having.
Im currently taking all the wires out of it and am going to see if i can get any response/dectetion on it. See if its an issue of crossed wires or somthing. But I did notice that the area just under the part where the usb plugs into the board (area circled in green), is getting VERY hot, almost burning hot. http://imgur.com/qgwsBC8 Is that normal?
Your board wouldnât happen to be resting on a screw would it?
No it was just sitting on plastic. I dewired the whore thing and plugged it into the ps4, and it still gave me the âtoo many usb devicesâ message. So the only thing connected to it was the usb cord, and ive tested that on other things and it worked fine. So as best as i cant figure, the board is dead. Like there nothing on it, its not dirty or anything. None of the soder points on the terminals/usb connector look bad or anything, as far as I can tell.
can you take a pic of the underside of the board for shits and giggles please?
Iâm no expert, but Iâm really not sure if itâs wise to cover up the electrical contacts and traces on the board like that, even if they are open solder points.
@Vicko ? Chime in on that?
I also notice that you have the VCC pin covered in electrical tape on the USB unsoldered headers, while you have ground, D+ and D- uncovered.
I have no idea if any of that means anything, and maybe thereâs no current going through the areas that are covered, but I know nothing about electronics. I just donât think electrical traces are supposed to be taped over like that.
sure. The more I look at it, it almost seems like theres a bit, like a tab or somthing from the usb connecter sticking up though the solder on the board. I circled it in the pics. http://imgur.com/a/3y9fI Idk if that would effect anything or not though.
Everything looks fine to me. That tab is just a gnd, itâs holding the jack into the board. Nothing wrong with it. The board doesnât work by itself outside of the stick, does it?
^^ Do what Vicko said. Hook up the board again to the PS4, without the electrical tape covering everything. When you hooked it up the first time, with everything de-wired, was it still taped down?
nope,I completely took out every wire and pice of tape. I took it out of the stick even. Plugged it into the ps4 and still got the same message.
Ugh. Looks like you need to get it exchanged
Did you buy it from paradisearcade or arcadeshock? Theyâll take care of you; theyâre good people
Do you have access to a soldering iron, btw?
You could try soldering a spliced USB cable to the onboard holes to see if the alternate connection would work, but thatâs only if you are good with soldering. Even if that DOES work, you should still RMA, but at least you would be able to game in the meantime.
GND is black, D+ is green, D- is white and VCC/VDD is red. The âfoil wrappedâ black is a shield ground and would not be connected.
I ordered it from focus attack.
Ah. Theyâll take care of you also. Forgot FA was selling the board, just the unsoldered versions atm.
Hi guys. Iâm having issues with my UFB. When I use it on the PS4 it randomly disconnects. I have the latest firmware(1.5) Iâve tried a different usb cable. This issue only occurs on the PS4. It hasnât happened on my Wii U, PS3, or XB1. I know itâs not timing out because it occurs after a few minutes of being plugged in or after playing for well over 8 minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
Does the PS4 give an error message or notification when this disconnection happens? Or does the stick just stop responding but the buttons keep working?
I would try a powered USB hub. I have seen this issue pop-up a few times and this solution worked.
