Breaking Bad

Agreed. :coffee:

A lot of it’s in the cutting. As whipcrack-fast as it seems, Breaking Bad’s style is pretty much old school shot construction and arrangement. It starts out by giving you a sense of where everything is–the players, the terrain, etc.–then it stakes out a line down the middle for a point of reference, making sure that each cut reinforces your sense of where everything is in relation to that line–the end result being the sense that this is occurring in a real physical space with a consistent orientation. A lot of modern actioners are surprisingly bad at this, though a lot of it is intentional. The editing trend in today’s movies is to confuse the eye, with the assumption that the viewer will interpret that confusion as ZOMG SO MANY THINGS ARE HAPPENING THAT I CAN’T EVEN KEEP UP!

Honestly, as long as your staging and shooting is on point, it’s almost always better to cut in a way that reveals what’s happening, rather than obfuscating it. You want to make the viewers feel like the characters are in danger? Show where they are and where the bullets are headed. Want to give the viewers a terrible sense of what’s happening? Cut things together with no sense of left-to-right orientation, no goal-oriented relationship from shot A to shot B to shot C, etc., no sense of where a single action begins and ends, a degrading sense of where everyone is in relation to where everyone else is and what everybody’s shooting at, and so on, and so forth.

Kode’s the best haha.

Meth Damon at his all time finest,

Oh, Meth Damon. I would’ve hit on Lydia, too. Not even that she’s THAT attractive in the classical sense, but the whole neurotic demeanor is kind of hot. Think she calms down after… you know?

I still don’t see Jesse dying anytime soon. He’s the co-star of the show. At this point, it’s pretty likely that the final showdown with the M60 involves White Power Jack (I don’t know if he’s related to Dirty Ears Bill) and his gang, but it also probably involves Jesse in some way, too. The question is: will Jesse be fighting at Walt’s side, or against him? I still think one of them is going to kill the other.

All that leads me to agree with the theory that the Aryans will hold some combination of Jesse, Skyler, and Walt’s kids hostage in an attempt to get him to cook. Marie will run to the DEA and possibly seek custody and witness protection for her and Walt’s kids. I also foresee an emotional scene with Marie and Skyler where Marie tries to convince Skyler to come with them.

Another thought: what if Hank dies, and Gomez is the one who gets away, and tries to find Marie? Might be better drama, if Gomez has to show up and deliver the news and carry on the investigation.

I don’t think Hank will die. Sherlock can’t die until Moriarty does.

I don’t see a reason to keep both hank and Gomez around. I just wished Gilligan had the balls to kill characters off like game of thrones without some garbage cliffhanger. Jesse will probably get taken hostage as a cook by Meth Damon et al., then I guess Shin Heisenberg comes out guns blazing to massacre the Aryans and rescue Jesse - cementing Walt as some mimicry of Jesus for both sacrificing himself and forgiving his Judas simultaneously.

He miraculously survived the Salamanca cousins, which was plot armor at its finest. If he survives the shootout then am calling heavy bullshit. Just how bad are americans at aiming anyway? they fired off like 400 rounds and nothing landed at 40m range.

Gomez going down has to be a given considering hes the most exposed, but how many bullets is Hank packing vs a bunch of guys with rifles and all kind of shit. If he survives am gonna go back to watching the A-Team to make sense of it.

Also common, Jesse did his final betrayal, Walt is defo gonna smoke him now after being so relunctant to kill him when he thought Jesse was just a junked out pawn, after he figures out the whole situation was thanks to Jesse (ergo fucking over his cash and family) there is little to stop him from going straight to execution.

I gave up trying to figure out where the show is going, because I’m hilariously wrong at every turn, so I’m just gonna enjoy the last 3 episode ride

I can see Walt spinning this and make him the Aryans are after both of them for talking to the police. I like ReccessionTime’s idea better.

Even Huell wasn’t happy about the ending

I dont know why I can’t stop laughin at that…

My wild random guess

Spoiler

Hank and Gomez die early next ep but they take out a couple of the Arian guys with em all heroic and shit. it gets all sad, maybe a flashback with good times with Hank…

The arians take Jesse but dont kill him as Walt did “Call it off.” Walt plea bargains that he wont cook if they kill Jesse and chooses to save him (he may need Jesse for something, or maybe he still looks at him like a son)

Walt chooses to keep Jesse in a sort of holding at the Arians spot and Jesse flips out because of Walts luck but cannot do anything, somehow he finds a way to tell Marie, who then tells Skyler/Walt Jr.

Walt Jr is the one who writes Heisenburg on the living room after learning about his uncle’s death and his father’s true identity.

Jesse is under watch by Todd while the rest of the hicks go watch Walt cook. Jesse gets free and kills Todd (perfect vengeance for shooting the kid)

Walt finds out about Todds death before the Arians, flees, and now its time for heavy machinery.

Arians find out… Walt goes home momentarily to find he has no family left and the Heisenburg spray paint on the wall…

Cant wait to find out how wrong I am sunday.

Huell looks fucked up scary. Like he wouldnt be out of place in any sci-fi movie. I need to catch up on his comedy shows, it must be the total inverse of Kevin Hart shit.

Thats why I can’t stop laughing at that gif… cause how he sounds in his standups. definitely catch up on his stuff… he has a latest one out

I’m hopeful hank will finally meet his end,

I’ve hated him and marie since day one, never have I found characters to be this annoying.

The only thing I’m gonna guess about is that the ricin is for Walter after he puts in whatever work he’s gonna put in.

Yeah, I love Lavelle Crawford, except for him recycling material a lot. I went to a show where he was the headliner and the whole act was a mix of that special you linked to and some bits of his from BET Comicview almost a decade ago. Still laughed though; I’ll be hype for his new special if he puts another one out…

Back to BB: I’m thinking they HAVE to have something most of us didn’t think of about to happen. This show has had no problems killing off major characters when the time is right. I’m feeling that I’m wrong, and things will play out with either Hank or Gomie getting killed. Still, I’m holding out hope for that Ace up the writing team’s sleeve that makes me look at them as gods.

It’s interesting how much mileage Breaking Bad has gotten out of casting comedians in secondary roles.

It reminds me of something Paul Schrader said about casting Albert Brooks in Taxi Driver: for those roles that aren’t really fleshed out on the page, you can bring in comedians and they’ll fill out the roles with their natural ability to expand and riff on stuff.

Or, as Schrader told Brooks, “Thank you. Your character was the only one I didn’t really know.” Then Brooks responded, “You didn’t know the regular guy, but you knew the pimps, the prostitutes, the psycho killer…”
