Breaking Bad has had some tremendous moments (I half-expected Ennio Morricone to start playing when Walt meets his methylamene buyers), but again, it’s unsubtle, and sometimes it gets a little bit too cute. Some of those non-sequitur POV shots that open a lot of scenes in Breaking Bad are too clever by half.
Before anybody says anything: yes. This is nitpicking and I’m well aware of it. That’s what you have to do when you’re comparing things of this level of quality.
The more I think about it, the more I’m starting to think that Walt’s day of reckoning won’t arrive in the form of Hank. I think it’s going to be Jesse.
Jesse has always been Walt’s moral accountant, and once he finds out everything that Walt’s been keeping from him–and he has to find out–that’s when things are going to get really, really ugly.
Hank’s a good soldier, but he’s going to end up like Sheriff Bell in No Country For Old Men. He’s overmatched.
I went on a huge Breaking Bad marathon over the past few weeks, and watched every episode to date over 2 weeks. Quite a ride. Sucks having to wait another year for the conclusion.
Here’s some observations I had that I didn’t really see discussed here.
Gus, and his “business partner” that gets offed. Pretty sure they were a different kind of “partner.” So was Gus entire operation, the whole rise to fame and then dismantling of the cartel in one fell swoop, all an elaborate plan just to get revenge on his lover? Was that really his motivation? If so, that would mean that even though he got blown up, he ultimately accomplished what he set out to do. Still a better love story than twilight.
Why has Walt clung to this loyalty to Jesse? It seems like even with all his breaking bad, how he’s transformed into a villain to rival tucco, he’s still loyal to Jesse. Sure, he’ll use him, but deep down he knows he owes Jesse a lot. Returning the money kind of seals that, he could have written Jesse off completely but he didn’t. Will this be his downfall? Pretty sure it will be, his one weakness will be what ends him. His last connection to humanity will be what prevents him from getting away with his operations. If only he let Gus kill Jesse a long time ago, he would be better off.
Anyway been a great few seasons, excited to see how it all ends. Definitely reminds me of the Shield, it’s one of the only shows where I can hate the characters and still enjoy watching. And if you remember how that ended… well, it could be a similar fate for our characters I suppose. One goes free, the rest aren’t so lucky. I guess the fact we see Walt live to his 52nd birthday, alone, kind of makes the idea that Jesse offing him won’t come to pass. But that loose end will come back to haunt him in the next 8 episodes I’m sure, causing a chain reaction to whatever the need for that artillery in the trunk was for.
its gonna be a long year to wait for the conclusion of Breaking Bad, any suggestions of what to watch in the meanwhile? Wish I could have amnesia to re enjoy all the episodes again as the first time
