Breaking Bad

After tomorrow, if you haven’t already get a hold of Banshee season 1. Insanely good television.

Or watch the Wire if you haven’t. It’s the only show that I’ve heard repeatedly being compared to Breaking Bad, both from friends and media, so it must be pretty crazy to be on that level.

LET THE SHANKINGS BEGIN!!! I’m so terrified of Todd’s uncle.

On a related note, Family Guy sucks ass if it’s allowed to run any longer than that.

The two shows aren’t much alike, except for being well-told serial stories about drugs. Breaking Bad is very melodramatic, moralistic, and almost self-conscious about its narrative-ness. You could almost accuse it of having occasional meta-moments–like the plane crash, which could have been written into the script as insert climactic story beat here.

The Wire is much more clinical, almost like a documentary. Yeah, it’s obviously a narrative as well, but those “HEY GUYS, HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY THAT I’M A STORY?”* qualities are much more submerged.

If I were to get reductionist about it, The Wire is like a Cormac McCarthy book in full-on beige prose mode, whereas Breaking Bad is more like a really good popular crime novel that you can’t put down.

*There is absolutely nothing wrong with having this in a show. It’s just one of the marked differences between these two shows the way I see them.

It’s the New Hampshire state motto

tonight is gonna be good. I have a feeling however it ends is going to leave a lot of people unhappy, but it’s gonna be great to have final closure on the story

It’s good but not Breaking Bad good. Breaking Bad has had a perfect run IMO, The Wire had that one shitty season where it was all about the Polish at the docks.

That wasn’t shitty at all. It was a season devoted to explaining where the hell the heroin was coming from. It’s pretty goddamn integral to the entire story.

It was, still shitty though. Trying to think of a suitable comparison within Dexter, but I just start laughing.

It was a bit awkward but I thought it was still very good. I feel like the idea of profiling different sub groups of Baltimore wasn’t really the plan of the show until the second season, hence most of the s1 characters remaining while none of those dock workers showing up again. But still it’s a good story about the state of union labor. Hard to compare the two though cause The Wire is just WAY more dense than BB.

Skyler’s annoyance is nothing compared to Ziggy. God I hated that motherfucker. Ignoring him re-watching S2 got a tad bit better, just not at first.

Some dock workers appear again during the show’s run. In fact, quite a few do.

For me, The Wire’s shitty season was season 5, with the newspaper angle. I used to think the season just suffered a lot from having only 10 episodes. Just like BB, the Wire was a show that needed time to breathe and build. The last season knocked 2 whole hours (Wire eps go the whole hour) off of that. I came to realize I just didn’t care about the newspaper arc in general. I don’t care if that one dude catches the other dude writing articles with fake sources. Get me back to Omar. That serial killer shit was bunk too. The shitty B-More government as portrayed wouldn’t care about a few homeless people getting raped and killed, even if they were white.

Back to Breaking Bad: my hype died down for the finale. For once, that’s a good thing. Instead of that happening because the show sucked a lot and killed my hope, this time it happened because the show has already given me enough. It could have a C+ finale and I might roll with it. Forget what Vince said the finale is supposed to be; this show is already victorious. But I’ll still be glued to that TV at 9.

I have a friend who worked on Breaking Bad. Here’s a few behind the scenes pics if anybody cares!

Your friend looks tasty.

I’m gona watch tomorrow after work, can’t wait.

I got 47/50 correct.

Ones I got wrong:

Spoiler

-Fugue State being Walt’s “supposed” condition when he went into the convenience store naked not amnesia- which is technically the same but w/e.

-Gale’s karaoke song was an unknown because know of it, but I didn’t know the exact name to reference.

-I’m pretty damn certain the collectible spoon is the correct answer. Last time I checked getting arrested for stealing a spoon is pretty much the “last” straw moment.

ROFL

Less than 10 minutes!!!

The moment is upon us gentleman. It’s been a good run… #GoodbyeBreakingBad
