Boycott Winkawaks!

I feel your pain Cray. Kawaks is an evil, clunkly little hellspawn with graphical blemishes all over the place. It has absolutely nothing to reccomend itself bar it’s popularity. For some reason tho, the switch from app-emu to reps as the main eu server (bows to r3) seems to have swung things more in MAME 0.64’s favour. That’s still borderline insanity that we can’t escape from those 2 emus when FBA, Hkaillera and MAME ++ are around, but the lesser of two evils and all.

Personally I switched away from Kawaks only because everyone was using MAME, I really have never had any of the problems that people mention with it, I think there is some mob mentality involved, since I’m not the only one who has had comparable experiences on Kawaks.

the netplay on it is kind of tacked on, but you’ll never get a better emu for sprite ripping.

Thats not enough to proof that its even related to either. There are thousands of people out there touching mouse while playing on kawaks and nothing happens to them. I’ve been using kawaks for more than 5 years now (since after the sydney olympics) and have never come across what you described. I’m sure its more efficient than mame with less systematic bullshit and more flexibility in performance control mechanisms.

Ive got a suggestion.
try redownloading kawaks.
EDIT: oh and scan your pc while you are at it.

Sadly the netplay for all of the arcade emulators is tacked on, if we had hardcoded stuff like zsnes for peer to peer connections we would have been set, rather than having to rely on kalliera in both cases.

This is only an issue of perception and brand loyalty. Its just like how some people would always drink coke or pepsi and go “this tastes better than that.”

Proof for what exactly? You lost me. I aint trying to prove anything, just an obversation.

Your claim that kawaks made “whole comp came to a standstill” by itself. Anyways, didnot find any good reasons in this thread about why kawaks is bad apart from “everyone uses mame.”

I don’t know anything about Kaillera code but I still don’t see how you can’t have “peer to peer” even if it isn’t in the emulator itself. I mean, all the packets are being sent to a server, why can’t that “server” be one of the players.

I don’t see why so many players make such a big deal, it’s not like people are playing ten different emulators, just two, mame and kawaks. So, why not just get both? I mean, not to put anyone out or anything, but it’s not like the extra program will hog space, and as we’ve seen it’ll be hard to get people to change from what they like to play on, so getting both allows you to play with both groups.

I know, mame fans will have their reasons that kawaks players should change, while Kawaks players will have their reason that mame players should change, I don’t think neither side is all that much in favor of budging. Though, I would like to point out, that I’m one of the many who have never had problems with kawaks, but in the past have had problems with Mame. (Got them sorted out, but never had issues to work out in Kawaks.) So those claiming Kawaks to be buggy, really need to give it a second shot if that’s there only gripe, since a lot of the stuff claimed is things I’ve never seen nor run into. I’m not advocating one over the other, I just think playtime should be given equally to both before making any conclusions, if conclusions have to be made.

So if a tournament for a game shows up, and the director says it’s Kawaks, just get kawaks and play, it’ll cost you maybe an hour of your life at most (if you aren’t all that good at searching the net), and play. Again, I’d understand if everyone had their favorite emulator, and all tournies were held on different stuff, but it’s just these two, I haven’t heard mention of any Callus tournaments lately. (Also I wouldn’t buy any slippery slope arguements that this would be a precursor to everyone wanting to play their favorite game in their favorite program, since the debate has always been just between these two.)

Was you there? No, so you can’t tell me what happened. Kawaks was obviously to blame, cray told me his comp only ever crashes like that when kawaks is running. Sorry if me being there and witnessing it, isn’t good enough for you. I’ll be sure to ask your permission whether its ok to post first hand experience next time

Fighting words there. Even then, cray is the only one with problems with kawaks here. Only him and god knows what he feeds his computer for kawaks to crash like that. The fact that it works for most others is enough to state that the issue is not related to kawaks and is something unique to him (or a vary few no of people like him).

And like everyone says, kawaks is indeed the best cps2 emulator. I’ve never crashed with kawaks or seen anyone crashing with it by itself. I would think crayfish has some dark age version or one of those “grabbed” asian versions with loaders or whatever. If thats the case, he should grab the official version from cps2shock and then complain.
